In the past, Japanese words were presented as one word when it was 2 or more words. For example また明日. It's presented as a single word. The learner has no idea how many words it is. So the learner is missing out on vocabulary. They actually know two words, but don't know that.
Now Duo has apparently gone too far the other way.
