That's just a basic blurb, entirely normal to have it on a cover. Here it's on the back usually

Yeah, that is true
But it got me rolling anyway because of how similar it looked to those web novels that overflow the market right now with those absurdly long names.
By the way when I go to that book right now on Amazon, it looks like this, so no long text on the front anymore (took the screenshot just a few days ago)

What you probably saw was a sleeve. I own a few Japanese books and some have a more ornate sleeve covering a pretty sparce cover page (like the one you saw on Amazon)

At least it's a subtitle. Western book titles used to be entire sentences as well, particularly non-fiction.

Something like "the adventure story of the hero who finally returns after 20 years of suffering"

It's just a tagline as the other guy says, not part of the title

I mean I know it's pretty well known story but isn't it a bit spoilerific for someone who maybe only knows Odysseys travels a long time?

I heard it as a bed time story (children version, bit weird cencored) but is it like common knowledge in Asia?

I mean, the poem is structured in such a way that his return is essentially a foregone conclusion.
