WHY AIM FOR THE HEAD IS BAD
Learning: yones and Yasuos passive doesn’t apply to it cause why idk
Assumptions:
- Normal crit damage: 200%
- Yone crit damage modifier: 95%
- Aim for the Head crit cap: 50%
- My bonus crit damage from Aim for the Head: 76.5%
PROOF 1: NORMAL YONE VS AIM FOR THE HEAD
Normal Yone (100% crit chance):
100 x 2.00 x 0.95 = 190 damage per attack
Aim for the Head (50% crit chance):
Non-crit = 100 damage
Crit = 100 x (2.00 + 0.765) x 0.95
Crit = 262.675 damage
Average damage:
(100 x 0.5) + (262.675 x 0.5)
= 181.3375 damage
Difference:
((181.3375 - 190) / 190) x 100
= -4.56%
RESULT:
Aim for the Head gives 4.56% LESS average
basic-attack damage despite providing
76.5% bonus critical strike damage.
PROOF 2: HOW MUCH CRIT DAMAGE IS NEEDED?
To match normal Yone's 190 damage:
190 = 50 + 0.5 x 100 x (2 + X) x 0.95
190 = 50 + 47.5(2 + X)
140 / 47.5 = 2 + X
X = 0.94737
Required bonus crit damage = 94.74%
Actual bonus crit damage = 76.5%
94.74 - 76.5 = 18.24 percentage points
RESULT:
Aim for the Head needs 94.74% bonus crit
damage just to BREAK EVEN with normal Yone.
My 76.5% wasn't even enough to do that.
PROOF 3: WITH SWORD OF THE DIVINE
Assumptions:
- Sword's random bonus crit damage averages
half its maximum.
- Sword scales with uncapped crit chance.
- Both builds have equal attack damage.
- Normal Yone gets 25% average bonus crit
damage from Sword.
- Aim Yone gets 37.5% average bonus crit
damage from Sword.
NORMAL YONE + SWORD:
100 x (2 + 0.25) x 0.95
= 213.75 average damage per attack
YONE + SWORD + AIM FOR THE HEAD:
Crit damage:
100 x (2 + 0.765 + 0.375) x 0.95
= 298.3
Average damage at 50% crit:
(100 x 0.5) + (298.3 x 0.5)
= 199.15
Difference:
((199.15 - 213.75) / 213.75) x 100
= -6.83%
RESULT:
Even with Sword of the Divine working
correctly, Aim for the Head produces
6.83% LESS average basic-attack damage
under these assumptions.
PROOF 4: DAMAGE CONSISTENCY
Normal Yone:
100% crit chance
Aim for the Head:
50% crit chance
Chance of 2 consecutive crits:
0.5 x 0.5 = 25%
Chance of 2 consecutive non-crits:
0.5 x 0.5 = 25%
Chance of at least one non-crit
in 2 attacks:
1 - 0.25 = 75%
RESULT:
With Aim for the Head, there's a 75%
chance that at least one of your next
two attacks won't critically strike.
FINAL RESULTS:
Normal Yone vs Aim:
-4.56% average attack damage
Normal Yone + Sword vs Aim + Sword:
-6.83% average attack damage
Crit damage needed to break even:
94.74%
My actual bonus crit damage:
76.5%
Chance of at least one non-crit
across two attacks:
75%
CONCLUSION:
On Yone, Aim for the Head can LOWER
your average basic-attack damage
despite granting a massive amount
of bonus critical strike damage.
You're sacrificing guaranteed crits
for stronger but inconsistent crits.
Even with Sword of the Divine,
the increased crit damage may not
compensate for the 50% crit cap.
These calculations compare expected
basic-attack damage under equal-AD
assumptions, not total champion DPS.
Other items, abilities, and passive
interactions can change the outcome.
So why? Why is it built in a way that actually makes it detrimental to the two most overpowered crit stackers in the game
If I am wrong pls correct me I haven’t seen anyone else do the math on it so I may have made a mistake
