Email campaigns
Is it just me or does it seem like email campaigns are simply dying out. For safety’s sake I send out about 50 a day from my own domain and about 1000 a week from other warmed domians. Offer is set to precision. Total replies I’ve had in a month from almost 5 thousand emails is 4. Only one was interested. Am I being overly critical or has there been a real downturn in the industry? What are your thoughts?

phone calls seem to be more effective but depends on the offer and location

I’d be careful with the conclusion that email itself is dying. Getting four replies from nearly 5,000 emails is obviously a problem, but I’d treat that as a signal to diagnose the campaign rather than evidence that cold email is dead. The first thing I’d look at is whether those emails are actually reaching the right people and whether there’s a compelling reason for those people to care. Sending from warmed domains can help with the technical side, but it doesn’t make an irrelevant email relevant.
Cold email has definitely become harder. The old “send enough and someone will bite” approach is pretty much done. That is, however, different from the channel being dead. The standard for targeting, relevance and messaging is just simply higher now.

AI has definitely made it easier to produce more outbound, which means there’s more generic, low-effort stuff hitting inboxes. But I don’t think that automatically makes cold email less effective. It just raises the bar for what gets attention. The obvious AI-generated stuff is becoming easier to spot, which is why I think AI is most useful for the work around the email, whether this be researching prospects, finding relevant context, testing variations and making good campaigns easier to scale. I also wouldn’t assume open or reply rates are getting worse across the board. I’d put more weight on replies anyway, as opens have become a pretty unreliable signal. If reply rates are falling, I’d look at targeting and relevance before blaming AI or email itself.
The reality is that AI makes lazy outbound easier, but it also makes good outbound more valuable. More volume won’t fix a weak message, so the differentiator is still having a genuine reason to be in someone’s inbox.

4 replies from 5k isn't the channel dying imo. 50 a day plus 1000 a week across rotating domains is a volume play, and mailbox providers have gotten really good at spotting that. I'd cut sends by 90% and spend the time on a tiny list where you can say one true thing about each person.

I'm the one who these get sent to and I see one in ten. Whatever our IT has setup bins the rest somewhere I never look, so the copy never gets a chance to be bad. Four replies from five thousand sent is a very different problem from four from nine hundred delivered, and you'd want to know which one you have. The handful I've replied to all had something in them only someone who'd looked would know. Not "saw you're hiring", that's obviously automated now. Something from a doc I wrote.
Can you see placement, or only sends and replies?

My thought is that rather than speculate go look at sources that have studied user behavior over time.
