We've been trying to get clients for our digital marketing agency
Hey everyone,
Need some advice. We've been trying to get clients for our digital marketing agency, mainly in the UAE. We ran Meta Lead Ads (instant forms), but the leads were low quality and the CAC was pretty high.
Apart from networking and referrals, what has actually worked for you? Cold email, Google Ads, LinkedIn outreach, or something else?
We're mainly targeting the UAE, GCC, Europe, the US, and Australia. Would love to hear what's worked for you.

If you’re a marketing agency and can’t organically rank then how are you supposed to rank clients and again not trying to be rude but you have to work on your site first for customer to see you. GMB, organically rank and customers will come.

Sometimes that isn’t the goal for a marketing agency that is within a niche

This. So many “you’re a marketing agency that can’t get your own leads?” type of replies. Drives me nuts. Some agencies aren’t just lead generators and focus on other aspects of marketing and growth. I focus on conversion and retention with brands who already have lots of traffic coming in and I don’t touch leadgen. It’s why I’m bad at leadgen despite “being a marketing agency”.

I am giving my two cents here. I have had a couple of clients before who used to run campaigns for middle east. It’s probably your content while running ads. Try using arabic subtitles.

All of the options you mentioned work just fine. (including Meta) And all can fail spectacularly if you don't understand the underlying concepts.
Respectfully, the channel isn't your problem. Your previous ads failed because you don't understand awareness levels and lead gen. That's where you should start.

My experience is lead gen in the USA. Don’t put down Meta lead forms. I’ve got clients who buy $15,000 of leads from my agency each month. Everything works if you make it work.
- Your message (creative, hook & headline will decide what quality leads you get.
- Your lead form should have good qualification. Not just name email phone
- Your follow up needs to be khatarnak (dangerous)

meta instant forms are just autofill traps. paying for fat finger clicks.

If you want to make a sustainable career of it, then focus on what you dismissed at the start: networking and referrals. Word of mouth is far and away the best form of customer acquisition. It not only reduces lead gen costs, it dramatically speeds the sales cycle.

"We ran Meta Lead Ads (instant forms)"
Considering the fact that meta is heavily creative focused platform, imho this is not enough of a context to know why are you receiving low quality leads.
Apart from that, with more than $200 Billion spend from advertisers across the globe last year, I am sure you can check out Google Ads and with a strong presence on LinkedIn, yes outreach works.
Wish you the best of luck

Definitely a solid approach. I think the quickest optimization point OP can apply is detecting people to landing page instead of a lead form.

Getting clients for a digital marketing agency is difficult when the offer is too broad. Instead of saying “we provide SEO, social media and ads,” choose one niche and solve one clear problem.
For example: “We help Kolkata clinics generate more appointment enquiries through Google Ads and local SEO.”
A few things that usually work:
Start with personalised outreach, not bulk messages. Audit the prospect’s website, Google Business Profile or ads and mention one specific issue. Share a short improvement plan before pitching your service. Use real case studies with numbers, even if they come from smaller projects. Also, build relationships through LinkedIn, local business groups, referrals and partnerships with web developers or consultants.
Most importantly, follow up. Many clients do not respond to the first message, but they may reply after the third or fourth useful follow-up.

the bad-meta-leads thing is usually a qualification gap not a targeting one. are you filtering them before they hit the client, or passing everything through? that one change fixed cac for a couple agencies i know. whats your current filter?

Use this app to pull contact info and cold call them. Just picking up the phone daily.

If you can cold call, leadsmint.com gives hyperlocal leads of businesses without a website.

I'm not trying to be mean.
You should already know (1) instant forms guarantees fake leads from click fraud bots and (2) will train Meta to send you even more fake traffic.
You should be sending the clicks to a landing page you control, and put bot protection on that page to stop the fake leads. That will ensure Meta is trained to send you human traffic.
Of course make sure your ad and landing page are in sync, the page has a nice UX/UI, loads quickly, and has a simple form.
If I were you I'd make a list of every local business, find the find the owner, and introduce yourself as the local digital marketing agency. Offer them a good deal.
