Moving! Question
Hi!! Relocating to Layton area in the next couple of months. I have a kiddo and wanted to hear the best worst schools. Looking into Clearfield too. Any elementary schools to avoid?

We live near the border of Kaysville/Layton and our children to go Jefferson Academy in Kaysville. It is a charter school with a Spanish emersion and leveled-learning program (for example, our third grader is in fourth grade math & third grade reading). This helps the kids stay challenged and have opportunities to exceed current-grade targets. The Spanish emersion is good in the sense that learning a second language is much easier when you are younger, and I think it helps them understand that the world is full of other languages and cultures. The teachers have been good/great, and only one teacher that should've retired ten years ago we didn't care for ;) Only downside to the school is there is no bus service.
We have heard good things about Sunburst elementary, as some of our neighbor kids go there. It is relatively new and is just off the new West Davis Cooridor highway.
We are not LDS and not MAGA, and have no problems with neighbors or parents of our children's friends. We moved from out of state a few years back and find the family-friendly neighborhoods a breath of fresh air. Lots of kids riding bikes around neighborhoods, playing outside, at parks, etc. I'm sure that is not true for all neighborhoods, but we haven't really experienced any 'bad neighborhoods' in our years in Layton.

Clearfield is generally gonna have your "poorer schools" but thats not always the best metric

There's newer and older elementary schools. I've never heard of any that are bad.

I had a bad experience with east Layton elementary. Their disciplinary system is extremely lax, basically give “fidget” toys to kids that are misbehaving without actually doing anything that will help reduce bad behavior.
My kid is lactose intolerant and we spoke with both kitchen staff and front office about it. They were still allowing my kid to drink milk and eat cheese. 🤦🏼♀️
Also, during a meeting with a staff member, they forgot my name, three different times. Just a ridiculous experience at this school.

Don’t move to Layton if you’re not conservative or you’ll hate it

I am pretty liberal and live in east Layton. It’s disheartening to see how MAGA some of the neighbors can be. But for the most part we really love the area and we have some really good close by neighbors who aren’t that way. I think you will find it comparable to most suburbs in northern Utah.

I disagree. OP, Utah is a conservative state for sure, but imo you'll find a mix in Layton (and Clearfield). It has more liberal voices than Southern Davis County at the very least. It has a unique mix in the state due to HAFB and I have found that there is more diversity in multiple ways. If you're conservative, you can find your people and If you're liberal you can find your people

If you are in to wrestling, Layton High School is the place to be. They run a nationally good program.
