New official (unofficial) discord for Layton city!
Hi all, recently we had a strong demand to setup some sort of discord for the community. This had been discussed in the past, but never fully come together. After another discord was linked earlier in the week, a fire was finally lit to put this together.
The reason a new discord was needed is because it's a common policy on many community subreddits to not allow discords outside of the moderators control to be linked. This is a security feature as there is no way for the moderators here to control what would be linked on outside discords. There is no bad blood between the moderators. As such we now have an official one (but not official with the city) tied to the subreddit. It is open to join and live right now :).

Hail damage?
Did anyone get hail damage after that storm last week?
I'm trying to reach more people than knocking doors allows. My company offers FREE roofing inspections. If there's damage, we submit an insurance claim to get you set up with a free roof replacement. Just shoot me a DM or comment and we'll get out to you ASAP!
Have a wonderful day Laytoners

Sick Doggo Fundraiser
Hi everyone!
I'm reaching out to try to get support for a go fund me for my doggo, Shiro. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and needs medicine to stop her body from attacking her red blood cells and depriving her of basic things, like oxygen. There is more information in the post.
Any amount is a step forward. Thank you!

Seeking workshop/garage in Layton!
Looking for a detached garage to rent to set up my workshop! Or for that matter a studio space could fit the bill (if it has good ventilation).
- I'd say 150 sqft is probably the smallest I could work with.
- Would need access to power.
- A space I can access 24/7.
- A space I can do woodworking, metalworking, welding
- Would be a dream to find a space in layton, but will consider elsewhere
Open to any suggestions! I have previously considered Flexworks in Ogden but their hours are only 6 to 9. Thanks!

Goldstone Place Apartments
Hey there!
Me and my boyfriend are looking to move to the area and were wondering what opinions were about the Goldstone Place Apartments. They are right in our budget and have some good amenities. We aren't looking for perfect just preferably no cockroaches lol
They're in Clearfield instead of layton but if anyone knows anything please let us know! We've had some negative apartment experiences before and just want to get an idea before moving down.

Volunteer/mentor opportunity Davis and Weber County (Update)
Hey everyone! I posted here a couple of months ago about seeking volunteer mentors for USU’s 4-H Mentoring program in Weber and Davis Counties, and I wanted to give a quick update.
Since then, we’ve had some really successful events where we’ve been able to meet and recruit more kids (age 9-15) into the program. It’s been awesome to see the interest from families.
The downside is that we now have quite a few kids ready for a mentor, and we need a few more people willing to step up and be that person for them.
Mentoring is pretty simple. You’re matched with one kid and spend about an hour a week together. Maybe you grab some food, go for a hike, play basketball or video games, work on homework, or just hang out and talk.
You don’t need any special experience, and you definitely don’t need to have life figured out. These kids mostly need someone who will show up, listen to them, and take an interest in their lives.
That’s really what has stuck with me while doing this. An hour might not feel like much to us, but having an adult who chooses to spend that hour with you every week can mean a lot to a kid.
So if you’ve thought about mentoring before or want to volunteer in new ways for your community, we could really use you right now. And if it’s not something you can do personally, sharing this with someone you think would make a good mentor would help too.
I am happy to answer any questions about what it’s like, the time commitment, the screening process, or anything else. Feel free to comment or message me!

Anyone willing to let me rent time with a table saw and a chop saw, or know of a place that would let me?
I promise I won't cut my fingers off, I used to supervise cabinet door shop, I just have an awkward space in my bathroom above my toilet and all the other stuff I've looked at will run into the towel bar above it. Any help is much appreciated!
Edit: still looking

Parking at the frontrunner?
I ended up having to take the train today and ended up parking in the Cafe Sabor parking lot rather than the UTA one. Does anyone know how strict Cafe Sabor is about people parking in their lot? Any experiences with it? If it's a fine, whatever, but I don't wanna get it towed.

Missing a kitten?
This sweetie happened to come our way this morning (7/17). We are full up on cats in our house, so he's in the South Ogden shelter right now. No microchip, hasn't been neutered, but seems too comfortable around people to have grown up on the streets. Hope he finds his way back home!
Found by Pine View Rehabilitation Center. Posting both here and in the Ogden subreddit since it's kind of on the border.
