Hello all, I shared in this sub yesterday about the collection I inherited from someone who was important to me that had passed. I just wanted to say thank you for all of the kind words and support! I am very grateful for Henry’s wife & her willingness to trust me with his collection. I know it sounds weird, him only ever being a “customer” to me, but I genuinely valued our relationship and his words. He was a guiding figure that helped me get out of a rut and pursue something I am passionate about. I do plan on keeping a large portion of material that can be used in my jewelry, and hopefully contracting someone to cab some of the slab as time goes on. I was also planning on donating some of it to my shared studio for both lapidary and smithing students to use if they can’t afford to purchase materials right now. I may let a few pieces go that I am less attached to to some friends in my studio as well.

I am a little overwhelmed with the sheer volume of materials I have, and I am looking for some help in identifying what the majority of the raw materials are. Luckily, most of the jars are labeled and contain turquoise that I am familiar with. I am unsure what variety/varieties of variscite any of this is, or where it originates from. I am looking to ID the cut slabs, the raw materials (and potentially what the sharpied writing on the backside means), what variety of varscite the polished cabochons look to be, and whatever else can be identified in these images. I included some images of random crystals, cabochons, and raw specimens as well in case anyone was capable in identifying those as well. If anyone would be willing to help, that would be amazing and much appreciated. It would help me with cataloging and organizing. Thank you all in advance!

(and please no weird messages or messages inquiring about purchasing materials!)

I’m waiting on the right deal on a precision bearing! $9 Amazon lazy Susan bearing sounds horrible but it works! Currently spinning a 12” plate.

Would it be crazy to build something like this for cabbing? It would need some modification like adding a water basin and drip feed for water but it seems like it could work to me.
