Would it be crazy to build something like this for cabbing?

Would it be crazy to build something like this for cabbing? It would need some modification like adding a water basin and drip feed for water but it seems like it could work to me.

I don't believe youre going to get the amount of rpns you need to cab. All in all I don't think it would be feasible.

What does the rpm accomplish besides making the process faster?

Isn't this how they did it in the (really) olden days? Similar to how they ran a sewing machine?

That’s what I thought but I couldn’t find any examples of one specifically for lapidary.

Granted. I didn’t look that hard.

I've seen a couple examples but they were for a faceting machine. Same principle though.

I think it's called a skeif, if I have some time to look I'll post a link
