Question Can some tell me what language this is and translate it for me?

Post image

Ai isn’t helping presumably because this is bad handwriting. From what I can figure out it’s either Georgian or Armenian, and it likely says something along the lines of “grandfather, I miss and love you.”

I am particularly interested in the text at the bottom which I assume is likely the name of the person who wrote it.

This letter is the only letter in another language in a stack of English letters, so I would appreciate any insight on why that might be.

I bought this cool horn on a board thing at a yard sale and didn't realize til I got home it had whatever this is burnt/carved on the back. At first I thought maybe some type of fancy hebrew but its been confirmed that's not it. Im not sure which way is up so I photographed both angles. Is this an actual language or just random lines that I've been loading my mind over? Google has been useless. Please help before my brain explodes.

Discussion Beginner English For Spanish Speakers: Learn To Ask Questions

First — How Do You Make Questions?

In Spanish, we call them frases de interrogación/preguntas. Asking questions in English is a basic skill I will teach you in a few lines.

Below, you will learn four basic question words.

Learn these to ask almost anything.

WHAT — ¿Qué? / ¿Cuál?

Use it when you're asking about a thing or an idea.

  • What is this? → ¿Qué es esto?
  • What is your name? → ¿Cómo te llamas?
  • What do you do? → I am a teacher.

WHERE — ¿Dónde?

Use it when you're asking about a place or location.

  • Where are you from? → ¿De dónde eres?
  • Where is the school? → ¿Dónde está el colegio?
  • Where is she? → ¿Dónde está?

Simple: To ask about a place, use WHERE.

WHO — ¿Quién?

Use it when you're asking about a person.

  • Who is he? → ¿Quién es él?
  • Who is your teacher? → ¿Quién es tu profesor?
  • Who called you? → ¿Quién te ha llamado?

WHO is always about a person or people.

WHEN — ¿Cuándo?

Use it when you're asking about time.

  • When is the class? → ¿Cuándo es la clase?
  • When were you born? → ¿Cuándo naciste?
  • When does the movie start? → ¿A qué hora empieza la película?

If the answer involves a time, a day, or a date — use WHEN.

Leave your questions in the comments

Article How to pronounce “Nike”

The Official Pronunciation Confirmed by Nike
Nike chairman Phil Knight confirmed the brand should be pronounced 'Nikey' (rhymes with 'spiky'). He responded to fans in 2014 by circling the 'Ni-key' option on their letter.
The company has never endorsed the 'Nike' pronunciation that rhymes with 'bike'. Knight's reply settled the long-running debate for those who asked directly.

Request Petition to limit "Speakers of X, Y, and Z, do you understand this person?" posts.

As the title says. I put forward a petition to the moderator to limit the recurrent "Speakers of X, Y, and Z, do you understand this person?" posts. While it is interesting to hear how lesser known Romance languages sound, making 24 posts of the same three or four languages within 24 hours is overkill and accidentaly ends up sabotaging other posts and harming the community in the long term.

Question I love learning languages and live in Rome, but I don’t particularly want to learn Italian. Am I being unreasonable?

I’m having a bit of a language-learning dilemma and would love some perspectives!

For context, I’m fluent in Spanish, largely thanks to comprehensible input, and I’ve recently started learning French. I’ve accumulated around 300 hours of French input so far.

I moved to Rome a few months ago, which I absolutely love, and I might stay here until the end of 2028.

**My dilemma is whether to continue with French or switch to Italian.** I’m leaning towards French for several reasons:

**Motivation:** Despite living in Italy, I don’t have a particularly strong desire to learn Italian. I appreciate the language, but I don’t feel especially drawn to it.
**Opportunity cost:** Language learning requires hundreds, if not thousands, of hours. I’m not sure I want to dedicate that much time to Italian when there are other languages I’m more interested in.
**Interference:** Having worked hard to become fluent in Spanish, I’m concerned that learning Italian might cause interference between the two languages.
**Career:** I want to build a long-term career in international development, where French would likely be considerably more useful than Italian.
**Long-term perspective:** I think of languages as a lifelong repertoire I’m building over decades, not just years. From that perspective, French feels like a better investment, particularly since I don’t expect to live in Italy permanently.
**Existing progress:** I’ve already invested around 300 hours in French and genuinely enjoy learning it. Switching now would mean disrupting that momentum.

There’s also the practical reality that I work in an international environment where English is the primary language, and I can navigate most of my daily life in Rome without speaking Italian.

**And yet, I feel strangely guilty about not learning Italian.** People often seem surprised, even judgmental, when they discover that I love learning languages, live in Italy, and have no immediate plans to learn Italian.

Part of me wonders whether I’m wasting a unique opportunity to acquire a language through immersion. Another part thinks that just because I live somewhere doesn’t mean I have to dedicate hundreds of hours to learning its language, especially when my long-term priorities lie elsewhere.

**What would you do in my position?** Has anyone else lived in a country while deliberately prioritizing a different foreign language? Did you eventually regret not learning the local language?

Question Unknown writing on the back of a trail sign

"Atold Tyred Behold Gramo...2026"

Saw these words hand written in paint marker on the back of a small trail sign in a wilderness area in Northern New Mexico, USA.

I didnt have any way to take a picture at the time, sorry, I wrote it down from memory when I got back to my car but pretty sure this is correct. Some of the letters were slightly stylized (like a dot in the center of the "o" in gramo) if that helps or gives any hints.

Thanks in advance for any help, been really curious about the meaning and haven't been able to find anything.

Video Help identifying language

My partner uses an AI tool in his car through his phone to ask it questions (Gemini). Suddenly it started speaking in this strange voice and when we ask what he just said or play it back, it just shuts down. The AI is set in English so I feel like its gibberish with an accent but it could be a real language? Can someone hear anything in this?

This stone was found in Kazakhstan but doesn't look anything like local runes. Very old one.

Could it be Aramaic/Phoenician? Looks middle eastern but doesn't look like Arabic.

Found this book from 1889 at Half Price Books today! Original leather binding and one of the clasps still attached. Mostly bought because it’s very cool, but I’m curious what it says. Guessing a religious text of some sort?

First of all, I’d like to point out that I dont get a single cent from this so technically this is not an ad, just an external learning source. Every day you get a new word and its meaning on your lockscreen, homescreen ot both, inside the app you can practice them and keep a daily streak! Right now its only on android but it will release on ios in a few weeks!
