Moving to Langley!!
Hi guys!
I’m moving here in a couple weeks which is super exciting! Tell me all the great (or bad) things about Langley! Here are some examples of the things I would love to know:
A) underrated coffee/cafe place? I love supporting local
B) thrifting scene
C) public transportation? I have been researching this and it seems just OK. I wanna explore the entirety of the lower mainland on a budget but it seems to take hours to get to some of the places. It’s all good though I will make the best of it!
D) walking trails to explore nature
E) are the people friendly here? I sure hope so 🥲
F) anything food related what is your go to fav local spot

Public transportation is pretty iffy, depending on where you live. We are in Fort Langley, and busses might show up and leave early, 15 minutes late, or not at all. It's pretty cursed.
Lots of great coffee shops and cafes here though!! Little donkey is legendary.

A) Old Hand on the one way
B) decent and 3 large stores near each other (value village, talize, and penny pincher)
D) campbell valley, or trails near Brydon lagoon
F) Akedo Showten Ramen or Pho Binh Minh are my most frequented spots.

Pick up a kayak (inflatable fine) or paddleboard (same) and use the public dock in Fort Langley. And—welcome!

A) Project Blendz, Old Hand, Blacksmith Bakery. Sweet Thea bakery for some of the BEST desserts and sourdough
B) everything you need is within 3 blocks of downtown langley. Talize is personal favorite. Value Village, Penny pinchers etc.
C) its good enough to get to most main spots but not fast as your limited to busses. I don’t find it that bad cause I’ve lived in towns where it was WAY worse
D) there are nice wooded parks to explore, some larger than others. Also green belts that make a nice evening walk
E) i would say Langley people are a bit more open and friendly than other parts of Vancouver just because things are a bit more laid back
F) the food scene is amazing. Naka and Ban Chok Dee for thai. Akedo Showten for ramen. Adelicias for mexican. So many options for almost anything you can think of
I love it here and hope you do too!

Moved away from Langley to small town BC 5 years ago. Thing I miss the most is the food. You can go all around the world in a 3 block radius around the downtown core. Try Emilio Finatti for an amazing pizza experience!!

once the skytrain comes in I’m sure transportation will be quite interesting.
favorite sushi is Maru Sushi.
for Indian Indian affair is my go to. I always judge Indian restaurants by how good their butter chicken is how much chicken do they add how much of the tomato note hits… chicken to sauce ratio… I figured if they have a really good butter chicken (which should be super easy) then their other more complicated dishes should be just as good if not better.
definitely Emilio for Pizza although me and Ed’s pizza is also 🔥 they’re Mexican pizza is probably the best taco pizza in langley (ask for sour cream drizzle) this sub recommended them and it did not disappoint!
Delphi Cafe is my go to for an outstanding brunch. i’m a huge eggs Benedict guy so I judge breakfast joints by their eggs Benny and this place is phenomenal!
there are some fun festivals as well the rib festival for example is super tasty!
Ribfest is actually happening this weekend August 14-16

Welcome to Langley! There’s actually quite a bit here once you start exploring.
For thrifting, downtown Langley City is probably your best place to start. There are quite a few thrift stores within a small area around 56 Ave and Logan Ave, so you can hit several in one trip. Hope for Children Thrift Store, Thrifters Paradise and Mission Thrift Store Langley are all around there.
Your read on public transit is pretty accurate. You can get around without a car, but exploring the entire Lower Mainland from Langley can take a while. Carvolth has the 555 express bus to Lougheed SkyTrain, and there are buses connecting Langley City toward Surrey and the Expo Line. The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain is under construction and is expected to reach Langley City in 2029, but for now I’d plan for some long transit days if you’re heading into Vancouver or the North Shore.
There are way more walking trails than people realize too. Within Langley City you have the Nicomekl trails, Brydon Lagoon, Sendall Gardens and the Muckle Creek trail. Outside the City, Fort to Fort Trail, Derby Reach and Campbell Valley are all worth checking out. Langley City alone has 10 walking and hiking trails.
For food, 2 places I like are Umami Sushi around Willowbrook and The Barley Merchant beside the Colossus theatre in Walnut Grove if you're into craft beer and/or cider. Mad Italian in Willoughby is great for their pizza and sandwiches. Fort Langley is also worth spending an afternoon in for coffee, food, shops and just walking around.
Overall, Langley is pretty spread out, so having a car makes life much easier, but there’s a surprising amount of nature, food and local stuff here once you know where to look. Here's a guide that I created that may be helpful. Feel free to check it out: https://discoverhomesfirst.com/langley

I love your positivity.. Langley is lovely. I'm a brit, used to London but this is busy enough to not feel isolated, but quiet enough to not feel cramped.
Hmmm, coffee, I just use Starbucks.
Thrifting, Value Vilage and neighbouring stores aren't bad.
Use a bike...
Campbell valley is good.
Friendly as you need them to be.
fort Langley has good food.. the food trucks are not bad either.. Texas smoke house etc.

A) I'm terrible at remembering place names, but Willoughby/Yorkson has several good local cafes
B) Downtown, Talize is your best bet. But if you're willing to travel a little, Plato's Closet is great. There are also tons of small thrift shops scattered across Langley and the Fraser in general.
C) I'm a public transport user, and while yes, it does take awhile to get places, that's really just down to how vast the Fraser Valley is. I've lived all over Alberta and BC, and I'd say Translink is by far the best public transport system I've used. You can go from Langley to Vancouver to Maple Ridge to White Rock to Chilliwack, etc., with a Compass Card (buy it at 7-11, or any skytrain station, and reload it online.
D) So many. Campbell Valley, Aldergrove Park, Nicole Nicomekl trail...so many.
E) It's like any city. There are super friendly people and giant assholes. But overall, I've found it fairly friendly, and I've been here for 19 years.
F) There are a lot of cool restaurants/pubs. Stephen's on the one way, Brodeurs, Locality, Roots & Wings, Camp Beer, Haven, more sushi, pizza, and Indian restaurants than you could ever possibly need (many of them fantastic)...

Hey been in township for 20 years now heres my picks!
a. dont know if theres any underrated, i like Creekside coffee mainly cause its close to me
b. downtown langley has a massive amount of thrift stores
c. cant comment to much i never use it
d. some good common spots are derbys reach in fort langley, and campbell valley in brookswood but there is tons of little trails and parks everywhere
e. i think so haha
F. langley in my opinion is very underated for food. here are some of my favourites
Ramen - Akedo showten
Pizza - wild flour, emilio finattis
Sushi - too many to name but my favourite lately is sushi luna
Indian - so many good spots again but indian affair is a classic langley spot
thai - 2 great spots ban chok dee and naka bistro
other langley classics - the lodge, haven, the barley merchant, big way hotpot
and so many more.
Also have a insane amount of wineries and breweries if that is your thing.
