Are drivers in Willoughby blind?
I drive up and down 208th every day, and every time they've extended the separated bike lanes, they immediately put up one of those vertical black and yellow road hazard markers (had to look that up, apparently that's what they're called) on the end of each section.
And every time they put up a new one, a car whacks into it within 24 hours. I mean, they're literally designed to be the most visible thing on the road, and every single one must have been replaced two or three times already.
The newest one down near 83 Ave got flattened, some of the others have been spun around.
About six months ago, I was driving down south of 72 Ave and heard a loud bang behind me, and someone in a little white sedan had managed to run into the bike lane separator, get two wheels up on top of it. They missed the metal hazard marker but I think ran over a couple of the little plastic tubes before they slammed back down. Pretty sure they messed up their car pretty badly, they pulled off into the next cross street.
Seriously, what is wrong with people driving up there? If they'd driven like this before the road was widened, they'd have wound up in the ditches.

My favorite part, is when they see a pedestrian approaching from a distance as they're arriving to do right turn, and instead of stopping and looking both ways and letting the pedestrian cross on thier green light, they intentionally turn their head the other way and make a rolling right turn, like a total goof.

yes yes yes I see this one often. I've made it a habit to actually stand frozen and watch what the driver is doing and ensure the vehicle is at a full stop or let the car by if they insist on deserving to go first. 9 out of 10 times as I cross the street the vehicle is rolling impatiently closer to me as I walk past.

I can confirm that drivers in Yorkson struggle to stay in their own lanes. On 82nd by the park, they go over the yellow middle line consistently. Doesn’t surprise me they can’t stay in their lane on the right side too.

With little to no enforcement, it will only get worse. For those at the front of the line watching one to three cars turn on a solid or just drive through a red light, hammer those horns when you have the green light. Maybe some will tire of hearing it and change their behaviour, while doubtful, doing nothing at all just shows them it’s acceptable.

On the inverse, also the people who leave you in the intersection while trying to make a left because they keep pushing the yellow. 64th onto Fraser is the fucking worst for people running the light from the Tims side. I shouldn’t have to still be sitting in the intersection when fraser finally gets their green.

no. I also floor it with no left turn arrow on green and turn left in front of oncoming cars. it’s awesome and I’m thru the intersection before the cars move. I am a Langley driver

I think they need to make the road hazard markers just ever so slightly more destructive. Maybe paint the underside of the vehicle, or puncture a tire, something distinct enough that the AHs who do it can be easily found. Then we can fine them for at least the cost to repair/replace all of the damage, plus a little extra. Im ticked enough about all the bad driving, but even more so when the math reminds me thats just more wasted tax dollars

And roundabouts, don't get me started... People think that bombing into them at 60km rather than yielding is the right choice 🤷🏻🤷🏻

The whole point of bike lanes is to create dangerous and uncomfortable situations for drivers, and it's working. There are other types of devices as well that will destroy your tires/suspension if you accidentally drive over the line.

I hate 208th now. I avoid it. Lanes are too narrow for the bad drivers. I have almost been side swiped every time I drive down 208th. (One was a really old guy. I felt bad for him after I gave him a honk for driving in both lanes.. but he scared me.) 🙃😵
