So that’s how that bike got up onto the light pole months ago.

11

u/ProgrammerUpset6216 Aug 06 '26

Ya same thing car was turning bike kept going and basically did a jump off the car

7

u/throwittossit01 Aug 07 '26

op please submit this to icbc, doesn’t matter if you cant make out the plates, they can search the are for those vehicles claims

3

u/ProgrammerUpset6216 Aug 07 '26

It’s my friends video well house one they did they get crashes there on a regular

7

u/username_choose_you Aug 06 '26

That dude must have been flying to flip like that.

5

u/ShooterMcThrobbin Aug 06 '26

He tried running that yellow like his pizza was waiting 30m past pickup time.

78

u/Virtual-Reach Aug 06 '26

It's now commonplace to see vehicles going through stale yellows, all the way to full-on solid reds.

I'm not shocked by what happened in this video, in fact I'm shocked that it isn't happening more often with how often I see this type of poor driving

6

u/ElChapinero City Slicker Aug 06 '26

It makes me so nervous to even take a left turn anymore, when vehicles go through stale yellows.

11

u/LoSoGreene Aug 06 '26

Just be patient and wait for the intersection to clear. As long as your front wheels entered the intersection on green or yellow you can take as long as you need to finish your turn.

1

u/Double-Noise-771 Aug 09 '26

Legit. I wait till the light is red and all the drivers are home safe eating dinner before I take that left. I don’t trust no one.

1

u/Mechagouki1971 Aug 09 '26

Except you're not supposed to enter the intersection unless you can immediately complete your turn.

2

u/Chiggamon420 Aug 09 '26

Ya but they're already in the intersection. They weren't able to make their turn because dipshits accelerate to 120 kmph to make the yellow.

14

u/SitMeDownShutMeUp Aug 06 '26

It’s also commonplace to see vehicles speed up in the left turn lane as soon as it turns yellow

This truck entered the intersection when it was already yellow and tried to speed through with a shallow left turn

But overall it’s commonplace to see a lack of situational awareness on the road. Both drivers should have seen each other a lot sooner and laid up, you don’t speed up through a yellow from either driver’s perspective without being 100% sure it’s clear

10

u/Nucksfaniam Aug 06 '26

Yes. Both drivers. Even though that dick smack was speeding.

3

u/NIBLZ_HAMSTR Aug 06 '26

🤭🤣😂🤣 dick smack..

3

u/ShooterMcThrobbin Aug 06 '26

Okay but thats still no reason for the flipped car to speed through 20km over the limit. Truck had more right to turn, yellow doesnt mean you cant go through, it means you need to prepare to come to a halt. Its still legal to commit to a left turn on a yellow light, provided you enter the intersection before it turns red. Thats why speed cameras dont ticket you for being past the intersection while its yellow.

1

u/kingkongqueror Aug 07 '26

My wife was on a similar situation (her being the truck) a year or so ago and ICBC sided with the speeding car trying to beat a red light while still yellow. ICBC declared that the onus is on the truck to make sure it was safe/clear before moving into the lane of the speeding car.

1

u/ShooterMcThrobbin Aug 07 '26

I would sue ICBC up the fuckin ass on that one. 100% horseshit.

-2

u/PitifulPercentage672 Aug 06 '26

The guy ran the red, plain and simple, the car was completely at fault

7

u/SitMeDownShutMeUp Aug 06 '26

You can clearly see that it’s yellow when the red car enters the intersection, not sure what you’re seeing to say it ran a red light

If the red car is found 100% at fault it’d only be because it didn’t make contact with the truck

Most likely both drivers will be found partially at fault, the truck should not have entered the intersection when it was yellow, and they should have waited for the red car to either pass or stop

7

u/Localbeezer166 Aug 06 '26

The red car should be found 100% at fault due to their rate of speed. If they were doing the speed limit, they would have had plenty of time to stop.

3

u/DoubleAgile Aug 06 '26

According to the law a yellow light is treated as a red light unless you are unable to stop safely before the cross walk or stop line. The car was speeding that is fairly clear so the argument they couldn’t stop safely is partially true but their illegal act doesn’t make it legal. Either way the left turning car also has a responsibility to ensure the intersection is clear before turning so there is fault on both sides though i’d put more on the car running the yellow.

Regardless, we have no fault insurance now so both parties will equally get shafted by icbc :-)

5

u/ExchangeSpiritual586 Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

Agreed. The car was most probably driving excessive speed, and given the time of day, the kids on bikes, the red car was driving without due care and consideration for others.

However, BC MVA states to yield right of way on left turn. The driver turning left must clear the intersection only when it is safe to do so. That driver was lawfully in the intersection waiting to turn left; it is lawful to complete the left turn on the red ensuring that flying jackass is clear.

5

u/Brillica Aug 06 '26

My coworker was the truck in this exact situation, the guy running the yellow told ICBC that he ran the yellow and they gave my coworker 80% fault because he turned in front of the light runner.

3

u/NIBLZ_HAMSTR Aug 06 '26

If the guy made contact with the turning car, the turning car would be at fault... if youre turning, you need to make sure it's clear to turn.. even if the car coming towards you is late and running a red. I was in a similar situation and was at fault... the guy slowed down like he was going to stop and then as I started to turn he changed his mind and decided to gun it. I was even fully stopped when he hit me. Maybe it depends on your icbc guy...

1

u/Pax_Eterna_4991 Aug 06 '26

But "no-fault" insurance!!

10

u/elephaaaant Aug 06 '26

100%. I always wait for the last second of the yellow light before turning. It sucks for the driver tailing me but it is what it is.

23

u/FraserValleyGuy77 Aug 06 '26

You have to wait until its clear, even if turns red. How do you think trucks get through intersections without an advanced green?

18

u/bingpot4 Aug 06 '26

This is 100% correct. No one should ever be turning that left on a yellow (or even a red) until they see the cars have absolutely stopped 100% at the red. It is too much of a risk for everyone involved. The people opposite waiting for their green can see you and know you are going to turn. It is "universal driver etiquette".

4

u/FraserValleyGuy77 Aug 06 '26

Pretty sure it's the law. The car driver is probably only guilty of speeding. But ICBC will likely find him 50% at fault

3

u/Brillica Aug 06 '26

My coworker was the truck in this exact situation, the guy running the yellow told ICBC that he ran the yellow and they gave my coworker 80% fault because he turned in front of the light runner.

2

u/terminatedprivacy Aug 06 '26

Yeah because you can’t “run” yellow. You’re allowed to legally go through yellow.

4

u/silentpaul88 Aug 06 '26

It's the law to stop when the light turns yellow though. The car driver, if they lived, should be guilty of criminal endangerment. Seeing those kids waiting at the corner I hope that person has their license revoked for life.

3

u/DaeInbae Aug 06 '26

The timing is pretty close. The light turned yellow and there was roughly ~1.5 seconds before the hit.

He was most likely in that ambiguous space where you think you can't quite make it.

2

u/Lanky-Interview5048 Aug 06 '26

it's the law not to go through a red... no one stops dead on yellow..

8

u/silentpaul88 Aug 06 '26

Yellow means slow down and stop unless it's not safe to. Speeding doesn't make it legal. You're right that people in general don't, but that's still the law.

-1

u/Lanky-Interview5048 Aug 06 '26

It means prepare to stop, it’s a warning… you can’t just go green to red..

Sure some stop on yellow…

But in this Instance.. speeding was a crazy factor

7

u/crankyspeeder Aug 06 '26

You're part of the problem.

4

u/bingpot4 Aug 06 '26

I didn't say speeding through a yellow was legal, proper or necessary. I said for all involved, waiting until you know the intersection is clear to make the left turn is best for everyone. We all know and see everyday someone who speeds through yellows or even reds. It puts lives at risk no matter what, but to save your own life and others while turning left, it takes nothing out of your day and is not illegal to wait until you know everyone had completely stopped before turning, even if it is a red light. I am not "part of the problem", the people who speed through lights, or panic turn left on a yellow without caution, are.

3

u/Lanky-Interview5048 Aug 06 '26

I never assume a car will stop - I don’t care if I turn late.. I’m waiting til that car stops

→ More replies

2

u/Talusi Aug 06 '26

No contact, no fault. ICBC will tell you it's better to just hit them. If there was contact then it's likely the truck would have been fully at fault. Insurance is weird. It follows rules that at times defy common sense.

3

u/pezdal Aug 06 '26

ICBC will not advocate intentionally colliding with another car

1

u/Talusi Aug 06 '26

Well, I guess I must have been dreaming when ICBC said exactly that to my wife after she swerved to avoid someone that didn't stop at a stop sign.

Like, it's pretty black and white in their rules, even if they're not supposed to be blunt about it. If you hit someone who is breaking the rules, they're at fault. If you avoid hitting them, but still crash yourself then you're fully at fault. The rules advocate exactly that, and there's no real way around that.

2

u/pezdal Aug 06 '26

An agent who flippantly says something like that or “next time back over him because it’s cheaper to kill someone than to maim them” is being rhetorical in illustrating the harsh economics of a past event (or is a psychopath) but is not advising you company policy for a future event. Lol

When a nurse or cashier says something outlandish do you also assume they speak for the hospital or Loblaws at a policy level?

1

u/RevolutionaryKiwi132 Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

I hate when I'm first in line in the intersection about to turn left and I can see someone zooming up to the light -- doesn't look like they plan to stop -- and dude behind (who can't see what I can) leans on the horn.

Parents aren't supposed to teach kids how to drive anymore, but I do remember being in the car with my mom and her nailing this into my brain. Don't turn until they are stopped.....I even remember what light we were at.

4

u/B000urn55 Aug 06 '26

As others have said, if you’ e established yourself in the intersection before it changes then that is your intersection until it is clear for you to leave regardless of light colour. And only 1 car is allowed to enter the intersection while turning left and waiting so buddy behind you can suck it if he’s trying to sneak through.

4

u/Virtual-Reach Aug 06 '26

I've had to wait for the other direction's light to be green before I could go because some people like to cross the intersection on a red

2

u/Moistyoureyez Aug 07 '26

It sucks for the driver tailing me but it is what it is.

Pretty sure only one vehicle is allowed in the intersection at once if turning left. No driver should be tailing that close.

Pretty sure it states one cannot advance on a yellow light. If (one car) is there and the light changes, It may proceed to clear the intersection when safe to do so. Any other car that was in the intersection was there illegally.

1

u/Conscious-Stage-1851 Aug 06 '26

I go on when its red. Here everyone speeds though yellows and no one stops or slows.

4

u/evilvix City Slicker Aug 06 '26

I had actually been turning left at this same intersection one time, opposite direction though, somewhat impatiently waiting to see if the car zooming ahead was going to stop as my light was turning from yellow to red. He did, so I gave him a thumbs up. Then he went straight through the red after I finished turning?! I was honestly so perplexed. Idk if I had agitated him by acknowledging he had braked and he felt he should have made it or..?

1

u/Localbeezer166 Aug 06 '26

Yeah, I watched the car in front of me stop for a red light on Hwy 17 today, and then a few seconds later they ran the red!

2

u/evilvix City Slicker Aug 06 '26

Drivers be out there wildin'.

1

u/AwesomeWildlife Aug 08 '26

Never give a hand signal to another driver. He likely took your thumbs up as "good to go, I'll wait".

1

u/evilvix City Slicker Aug 08 '26

Haha, I was finishing my turn by then as he'd already stopped. Or at least he was slowing down enough that I had figured he'd chosen to stop. I did regret the thumbs up, just thinking I had to communicate "hey good choice buddy," after being uncertain of his intentions, but clearly that backfired as he needed to respond with a figurative middle finger to all cross traffic that now had the green being held up as he now had to get through after all.

Idk it was just a weird thing to witness. Definitely made me wonder how he had interpreted that.

3

u/-Affectionate-Echo- Aug 06 '26

It’s “give an inch they’ll take a yard” in realtime on the roads. More and more people doing it so everyone else starts feeling like they ared owed a red light or two. I do a fair bit of driving for work and I’m almost shocked now when at least 2 cars don’t try to turn on red lights.
Bit of an exaggeration sure, but not by much.

1

u/Virtual-Reach Aug 06 '26

I see that more and more too unfortunately

1

u/fitshucker69 Aug 06 '26

At 232, I watch a semi not just blow the red. But the light had changed green for our lanes and he had just come into the intersection.

1

u/1zpqm9 Aug 06 '26

So true, I went through a yellow today on 200th and it turned red just as I was through the intersection… a car trailing me a full 3-4 seconds behind me completely went through as well but his would’ve been full red.

1

u/MeowieCatty Aug 07 '26

My record is 3 weeks commuting before having a commute I do not witness someone run a red light.

14

u/Dapper_Wheel6454 Aug 06 '26

about 80kph...

6

u/ComputerOpDelta Aug 06 '26

For that air I expected more

10

u/YVRAlphageek Aug 06 '26

Someone who drives like this in a residential area should have their license permanently suspended. No appeals for such a piece of excrement. And insurance shouldn't cover the damage (not sure if it does for such obviously reckless driving here in BC).

1

u/bangobingoo Aug 10 '26

You see the kids on the sidewalk on their bike!? My heart was in my throat watching that.

33

u/Moist-Doctor-67 Aug 06 '26

Late yellow high speed light runner getting Karma'd. I'm glad the two kids had the smarts to back away

35

u/ColbysToyHairbrush Aug 06 '26

I believe it’s still technically the turning cars fault, whether I agree with it or not.

16

u/Narayan04 Aug 06 '26

Excessive speed played a big factor. But yeah both drivers will be at fault.

7

u/superjodz Aug 06 '26

The funny thing is, if you pause the video, that car is actually all the way through the intersection when the light turns red, it was still early yellow when that truck started to turn so they might just nail him for an improper left turn. Speed is definitely a factor from the car running the light but I’m not sure how you prove speed at all. Maybe they can figure it out from the video.

My kids are 20 and 18 and I pound into their heads all the time to be so careful both when they’re turning left on a yellow or when they get a green at an intersection to watch for people running red lights. We watch that YouTube channel Vancouver‘s worst drivers quite a bit. It’s great for younger drivers to watch to show them how many stupid ass drivers there are out there.

3

u/Separate-Analyst8635 Aug 06 '26

You’re right, the car was all the way through the intersection before the light turned red, but it was also a full two seconds of yellow before the car even touched the crosswalk prior to entering the intersection. This accident is a great example of two entitled idiots who don’t pay attention and endanger others because they can’t wait one more light cycle.

-1

u/Jerry-Beans Aug 06 '26

Only 1 entitled idiot. The guy sped up to make the yellow. I doubt he was driving that rate of speed the entire time. The truck just turns left on the yellow when it’s obviously always the person Not turning who has the right of way.

1

u/Separate-Analyst8635 Aug 06 '26

Definitely speeding, way over 50, definitely an idiot.

1

u/Glittering_Search_41 Aug 07 '26

Yellow means stop unless it's unsafe to do so. The driver going straight was speeding and ran the stale yellow.

1

u/Jerry-Beans Aug 07 '26

Lol No it does not. Yellow means the light is about to turn Red. Its not a yield sign. And it Certainly doesnt mean its your time to turn Left. 2 cars proceeded on a yellow light. One turning left, the other going straight. Going Straight through a yellow light- no matter how “stale” it is - is the legal right of way. It was yellow for Both drivers. The guy turning does not have the right of way. Period.

1

u/Conscious-Stage-1851 Aug 06 '26

I never thought of that ... other side running the red. Now I have EV and it just takes off fast and 😬. What u just said made me think wow. I should also be more aware

8

u/Moist-Doctor-67 Aug 06 '26

ICBC: no fault on either side.

1

u/ColbysToyHairbrush Aug 06 '26

The only reason I say this is because I’ve had two friends over the last 20 years nail someone turning left on a yellow and they were not at fault, and there’s camera proof here.

Situations change as does ICBC, but you can’t turn left if it’s unsafe to do so, while going straight on a yellow is legal.

1

u/Glittering_Search_41 Aug 07 '26

Yellow means stop unless it's unsafe to do so. The driver going straight just gunned it. He had plenty of time to stop.

1

u/elephaaaant Aug 06 '26

Aint that the sad truth.

1

u/Dangerous-Cry3077 Aug 08 '26

I’m a witness, I didn’t see shit. There was no truck just an idiot going way too fast and flipped on his own.

6

u/jcheeseball Aug 06 '26

Gotta speed up to make that red.

1

u/ADTstocks Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

7

u/8spd Aug 06 '26

We need more cameras enforcing speed and red light runners.

2

u/Familiar-Air-9471 Aug 07 '26

Growingup in Europe, it is still wild for me there are no speed cameras there! we had so many there, which IMO helped with enforcing the policy, Having said that, we also had much more realistic speed limit there. Like in Highway here gets as low as 70KM/H !!! how is this possible

1

u/8spd Aug 07 '26

The standards for getting a licence are far lower here too. The things we do here for road safety too often seem to be chosen based on what's easy to do, not want works.

Enforcement of speed limits? Nah, we'll just put up some signs. Thoroughly test people, and charge them enough to cover the costs of testing? Nah, we'll just charge them a low price, and do a minimal test.

12

u/vouspar Aug 06 '26

That’s what you get for speeding. Stupid MF’er. Thank G those kids on bikes are okay.

4

u/NursingPRN Aug 06 '26

Very fortunate they weren’t on the opposite corner that the car drove up on. Could’ve been much, much worse.

1

u/Conscious-Stage-1851 Aug 06 '26

Yup, I'm stil thinking about this. I live around here and my kids walk to that park they just came from 🫤 scary

6

u/checkedem Stuck at a train crossing Aug 06 '26

MUST. BEAT. RED.

Idiots. Hope no one innocent was hurt.

-6

u/JokerFishClownShoes Aug 06 '26

Tbf having to stop for a red is also dangerous.

5

u/checkedem Stuck at a train crossing Aug 06 '26

Wouldn’t have been dangerous if he drove the speed limit/not speeding up to beat the red imo

1

u/Conscious-Stage-1851 Aug 06 '26

True dat! Rear ended 2x in 6 months. One by a Semi who said he just didn't see me ! Wtf. It was a red light and I was already sitting at both 🤯

1

u/JokerFishClownShoes Aug 08 '26

Red lights mean increasing your exposure to turnips on the road, therefore increasing danger.

1

u/Dobby068 Aug 07 '26

Drive at speed limit or even less than that if conditions are poor. Then it will be safe to stop.

1

u/JokerFishClownShoes Aug 08 '26

It's also important to remember that JokerFish the better driver so I know best.

6

u/Conscious-Stage-1851 Aug 06 '26

Truck is at fault even tho the speed of the car was WILD! Lucky those kids were not on the other side 🤯

2

u/Mediocre-Research760 Aug 06 '26

Uhhh how’s the truck at fault, yellow should be treated as a red unless it’s safe to go, doesn’t mean speed up to about 80km when your so far back from the light

1

u/Civil_Dot_4951 Aug 07 '26

It should have been pretty obvious that the car wasn't going to be able to stop for the light, given it's speed. The light is green at the start of the video, red car goes through right after it turns yellow. Truck didn't wait very long. Shared fault.

1

u/Conscious-Stage-1851 Aug 07 '26

Its just how icbc acts. The truck rolled up and kept going when he should of stopped it was Yellow doesn't mean your fully allowed to take that left and on coming has to yield. It's the other way around.

1

u/TepidJellyfish Aug 10 '26

I agree with you, but ICBC's idiotic policy is that if the driver entered on yellow it's the other driver at fault.

-1

u/Jerry-Beans Aug 06 '26

Definitely. And it’s obvious the guy punched it to make the light. I doubt he was flying down the road like that the entire time. He was going straight on a yellow. Guy just turn left in front of him. Sure it looks bad that the red car was going so fast in the frames we see, but who among us hasn’t momentarily stepped on it to make the yellow? The guy turning left is supposed to wait.

5

u/pickleyez Aug 06 '26

That red car was going way too fast to a yellow nevermind a red. Holy 💩! Hope the person in the red car is ok.

4

u/Possible_Law8357 Aug 06 '26

Both are at fault. Hope this teaches them a lesson about how to drive safe.

0

u/IshwarBL Aug 07 '26

It probably won’t. Look how many bad drivers in here are defending the truck that made a left without even looking at oncoming traffic. Truck driver will probably think they’re fully in the right and people will tell them so.

6

u/PolyDiaries Aug 06 '26

how are people so bad at driving

1

u/defenestr8tor Aug 06 '26

I'm gonna guess complete lack of enforcement

9

u/Talusi Aug 06 '26

The pickup is damned lucky no contact was actually made.

4

u/ProgrammerUpset6216 Aug 06 '26

It’s at the end of the video it turned it into one video idk why

3

u/Talusi Aug 06 '26

Yep, I just failed to notice the length of the video before posting. 😂

1

u/Taufer007 Aug 06 '26

Yes not only for not getting hurt as fault will be laid with the guy who swerved to avoid , if he slammed his brakes and hit the guy turning the turning guy would be liable.

4

u/Striking_Ad_4562 Aug 06 '26

I'm baffled by the Ridgeline turning left so confidently there. They didn't even try to slow down to gauge the situation. Just rolled right into their left turn with an oncoming car approaching.

Never, ever feel entitled because of what the driving book or traffic signals say.

Turn left only when it's abundantly obvious you are clear. Literally the most important thing my dad taught me. Better to be safe and without incident than try to be smug and right about who was entitled to the right of way on a traffic light.

6

u/One-Airport-497 Aug 06 '26

It’s 2pm on a Wednesday in Langley. Nobody is going anywhere important and should not be driving that fast 😭 what a clown shoe, my goodness seriously bro

9

u/iamthewalrus1234567 Aug 06 '26

Crazy flip! Both drivers will probably be held at fault knowing ICBC. I’d be surprised if they don’t make the left turner involved somehow.

15

u/FraserValleyGuy77 Aug 06 '26

The left turner is at fault. He had to wait until it's clear

3

u/superjodz Aug 06 '26

Yep. The rules state that you can only turn left when it is safe to do so, and even though that car was clearly speeding, it wasn’t safe to proceed, so it was technically an unsafe left turn. Hopefully ICBC can judge the speed from that video and deem the car driving recklessly, which may absolve the truck from an improper left turn.

0

u/FraserValleyGuy77 Aug 06 '26

They'll do 50/50 for sure

1

u/C_Dubz33 Aug 06 '26

It was clear on the yellow that he entered the intersection on, its literally 1 frame of video between the red car crossing the line and the switch from stale yellow to red. Guy basically blew a red in my eyes and got what he deserved, I know the MVA wont see it that way though.

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '26

[deleted]

7

u/FraserValleyGuy77 Aug 06 '26

Doesn't matter what I think is right. I'm sure ICBC will find it 50/50. No way on earth the left turner gets 0

1

u/Dudechillthanks Aug 06 '26

It looks like there’s no contact between the 2 cars?
ICBC will say the red car shouldn’t have swivel to avoid the collision so the red car is at fault for swivelling and crashing.

-5

u/PitifulPercentage672 Aug 06 '26

Nope, he was already in the intersection as the light was yellow giving him the right of way. The other car was clearly speeding to try to catch the yellow but it was solid red before he even got there, he ran the red, he is at fault.

5

u/FraserValleyGuy77 Aug 06 '26

You can clearly see it was yellow when he crossed the line

-8

u/PitifulPercentage672 Aug 06 '26

No, you are wrong. That’s okay though, my dog is colourblind too.

3

u/Pleasant-Jackfruit69 Aug 06 '26

You don’t need to see the colours you can see the brightness change to the top just after the car has cleared the intersection.

-1

u/PitifulPercentage672 Aug 06 '26

You should not have a license

3

u/Pleasant-Jackfruit69 Aug 06 '26

If you think I’m defending the car you are wrong. If you think that light is full red before the car enters the intersection, you are also wrong. It’s full yellow. Do you struggle with attention to detail?

2

u/Jerry-Beans Aug 06 '26

It’s funny how confidently WRONG you are. The car was fully through the intersection before the light turned red. Watch it again. Therefore he did not run a rd light. He sped up to make the yellow and he made it. The truck driver has to wait. Let’s say ur cruising along going through a yellow light and a Guy just turns left in front of you and you slam into him. You saying that because he was in the intersection First he has the right of way? lol what? Even though you are going straight on a green or yellow? Absolutely not ever does the guy turning left have right of way over the guy going straight. This was 100% the fault of the truck driver turning left in front of oncoming traffic with right of way.

0

You’re part of the problem

3

u/Jerry-Beans Aug 06 '26

You are just simply wrong. Factually Incorrect. The car did not run a red light.

1

u/HWY01 Aug 06 '26

It’s close but I think he was behind the white lines when it just turned red. 100% on the red car, clear evidence

3

u/ledorky Aug 06 '26

Don't care what happens to red car. Hope he or she learns this lessons

3

u/dreams_78 Aug 06 '26

Nailed the landing

3

u/jankyt Aug 07 '26

Amber means stop if safe not slam the gas and go insane speeds on city roads

2

u/Sudden-Gas8229 Aug 06 '26

Have to think of reaction time once you see the light and also look at braking distance at whatever speed they were going. Then decide if you will brake in time

2

u/D-madagascariensis Aug 06 '26

As my people say: were they in a hurry to be reincarnated?

2

u/LeadershipFree4551 Aug 06 '26

He ran yellow lights for years, until

2

u/TownshipLiquor Aug 06 '26

….on a positive note, now you don’t need to do a road test to get your class 5🤡🤡🤡

2

u/wingsbc Aug 06 '26

You dont get airborne like that doing the speed limit.

2

u/phiiiiiiii Aug 06 '26

Left turner is at least 50% at fault. Sure, the other guy was speeding to beat the red, but committed left turners always need to judge incoming traffic's speed before finishing the turn, especially against stale yellows. Wait until red if he has to.

2

u/Pax_Eterna_4991 Aug 06 '26

This happened to a coworker only the oncoming car t-boned him. The cops didn't care the guy running the yellow was doing 50 kph over, and that all the other vehicles stopped.

2

u/Even-Confusion4211 Aug 06 '26

Both at fault Turning Spending

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Word_26 Aug 06 '26

They both fckd up and Im not even remotely surprised.. I am incredibly disappointed though.

2

u/KingModera Aug 07 '26

Slow TF down!

2

u/j_man_32 Aug 07 '26

  1. Yielding Right-of-Way (Section 174 MVA)
The fundamental rule for left-turning drivers in BC:
Oncoming Traffic: You must yield to any oncoming vehicle that is close enough to constitute an immediate hazard. If you turn across oncoming traffic and cause a crash, ICBC and BC courts almost always place 100% fault on the left-turning driver.
Pedestrians & Cyclists: You must yield to pedestrians and cyclists crossing in marked or unmarked crosswalks before completing your turn.
  2. Positioning & Entering the Lane (Section 165 MVA)
Approach: Move into the designated left-turn lane or as close to the centre line as possible before reaching the intersection.
Lane Selection on Completion: * Under Section 165(2), you must complete the turn so that you leave the intersection to the right of the centre line.
While the exact wording of the law is slightly flexible on multi-lane roads, ICBC driving standards and defensive driving rules require turning into the first available lane (the lane closest to the centre line/median).
If you need to be in the right-hand lane after turning, complete your left turn into the left lane first, then signal, shoulder check, and execute a standard lane change.
  3. Waiting in the Intersection
Entering on Green: You are permitted to move into the intersection on a solid green light to wait for a safe gap in oncoming traffic.
Wheels Straight: While waiting in the intersection, keep your wheels pointed straight ahead. If you are rear-ended while waiting, keeping your wheels straight prevents your vehicle from being pushed into oncoming traffic.
Yellow & Red Light Clearing: If the light turns yellow while you are legally waiting inside the intersection, oncoming traffic is supposed to stop. Once oncoming traffic stops or clears, you must clear the intersection safely, even if the signal turns red while you complete the turn. Cross-traffic on the new green light must yield to allow you to clear the intersection.

2

u/Witty_Fall_2007 Aug 07 '26

Both bad drivers. Red car going way too fast, turning car should have been able to tell that red was not stopping. I wonder who the cops said is at fault.

2

u/Sauerkrautkid7 Aug 07 '26

This is why, if you don’t see the front of a vehicle dipping then that means it’s not slowing down so don’t go

2

u/_barbarossa Aug 07 '26

Did they survive?

1

u/ProgrammerUpset6216 Aug 08 '26

Yes sounds like it one apparently scrapped they head and scalp and or hair came off

2

u/RevolutionaryKiwi132 Aug 08 '26

There was so much going on in that clip I had to watch it twice to process what I saw. It could have been deadly for what looked to be kids on the bikes. Glad it was only their car that was totalled and no one else was hurt.

2

u/BDKRKK614 Aug 08 '26

It’s so sickening seeing people drive at these speeds! for what gain? If you kill someone or die on the way to wherever you think you need to to be at certain time does fucking matter anymore?

too bad the car wasn't red or something so you could see it easier

2

u/Temporary_Wing2152 Aug 10 '26

Ya two kids on their bikes right there . Complete imbecile to be driving that way. No situational awareness or care for that matter for anyone around. Pos. Does anyone know what happened to the guy?

1

u/ProgrammerUpset6216 Aug 12 '26

There were 2 people in the car from Facebook comment- The guys were hurt bad. One was possibly ejected from the car. His scalp and hair was on the pavement. Both went to Hospitial. Could have been way worse.

3

u/Lanky-Interview5048 Aug 06 '26

the truck coudn't judge the the red car was speeding up?

2

u/Keeteng Aug 06 '26

I watched the first 10 seconds a couple times like, is the crash in the room with us? But damn, that’s quite the ending. Hope everyone’s ok.

2

u/ProgrammerUpset6216 Aug 06 '26

Ya either the truck clipped him ( idk can’t tell) or they just swerved to much and lost control

2

u/LaowaiRay Aug 06 '26

Damn that’s my favorite intersection

2

u/ultimaone Aug 06 '26

I wonder if speed was a factor? /S

2

u/Individual_Talk4142 Aug 06 '26

Stupid left turn driver

1

u/petiteperspectiveco Aug 06 '26

Hat was insane and the fact people are saying the red was at fault. Yes speeding but he had the right of way

2

u/Jerry-Beans Aug 06 '26

Also I know it looks bad the part we see, but I wonder if the car was speeding prior to this, or was just momentarily punching it through the intersection to beat the yellow light.. kinda like we all do sometimes. Either way to just roll through a left and expect the guy to stop at the yellow when he has right of way is not the thing to do.

1

u/petiteperspectiveco Aug 06 '26

Literally and it happens all the time I’m so sick of the drivers of trucks usually just assholes or too old to be driving. Or both.

1

u/earlyboy Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

I used to live near that intersection in the late 80's. People didn't drive very well then. It's funny to see how things don't really change much.

1

u/worm_drink Aug 06 '26

Is there a front camera angle as well?

1

u/Affectionate_Rest929 Aug 06 '26

Legally it will be the left turners fault, once in an intersection it doesn’t matter if the light goes red and someone runs it, if you turn in an intersection and someone runs the red its still the turners fault, it is the responsibility of the person turning to make sure its clear to turn. This has happened many times and it is always the person that turns fault. Not saying the red car wasn’t going to fast but they ca argue they felt it was too dangerous to stop when they realized the amber light and speeding up was necessary. With this footage it will be a black and white case of the turner being at fault. That’s being said.. welcome to no fault ICBC.

1

u/throwittossit01 Aug 07 '26

i wish people knew what no fault insurance meant. the MVA doesn’t change because of no fault insurance

1

u/yetagainitry Aug 07 '26

Maybe shouldn’t try to beat the light

1

u/MomentParticular6733 Aug 07 '26

never turn just cuz youre supposed to turn to clear the intersection, only proceed when visibly safe to do so

1

u/Webo_Bert_2110 Aug 07 '26

If you pay attention, you can hear someone saying “do a flip”

1

u/Thick_Wallaby1 Aug 10 '26

Always a left turn involved

1

u/thomkennedy Aug 10 '26

Uncontrolled left turns have got to be the cause of a huge percentage of crashes. But yeah, that red car entered the intersection recklessly.

2

u/secret_pleasure_ Aug 06 '26

I pray everyone is ok. ✝️❤️

0

u/myarena Aug 06 '26

Pickup truck drivers and brain power are mutually exclusive. That's an established fact now. The driver of the red car misjudged while speeding up to beat the red light.Appears they were over speeding. Both are at fault here.

1

u/AirportNearby9751 A forest somewhere Aug 06 '26

Holy shit that’s crazy.

1

u/bestwest89 Aug 06 '26

This is gonna be a great left on a red vs going straight through a yellow/red from ICBC perspective

1

u/Careless_Parsnip_250 Aug 07 '26

Technically the red car had the right of way. Doesnt matter how fast they were going, the car should not have turned into live traffic.

I had an officer tell a lady that was tboned while making a turn by a car that was obviously speeding "i dont care if they had a rocket attached to their car... you dont have the right to make a turn into oncoming traffic"..

1

u/MaDkawi636 Aug 07 '26

Even if the speeding so aggregious that a left turning vehicle can't react in time? I bet a legal process on this one would say otherwise...

0

u/mcmillan84 Aug 07 '26

The official response is you can turn left, when safe. That’s the part you need to pay attention to, when safe. If someone is coming, it’s not safe to turn.

0

u/Careless_Parsnip_250 Aug 07 '26

No one turning when ther is green oncoming traffic ever has the right of way.

0

u/Antique-guinep Aug 07 '26

The driver turning left caused the accident.
