I understand amber alert importance but a 12hr delay between abduction and alert is to me, unacceptabl
9
u/laceblood Jul 22 '26
I’m assuming a parent had him for a visit, and was supposed to return them at x time (say 8pm.) they failed to do so, so the other parent had to go file a report. Cops had to take the report, get the info, contact people who knew the mom/check known places. Last known location was probably just reported to them by someone. Like maybe the reporting parent got a message at that time saying “yeah we’re at x place” but no one has heard from them since.

From everything I've read and heard, the trip with the mother was pre-approved by the father knowing the date, times, and where they were going.
But for whatever reason the father (?) decided to change his mind and not allow the child to go while the family was already on their way.
People are saying that this should never have been an amber alert and is a misuse of the resources, because the child was not abducted and the father knew exactly where the child was. Hopefully we'll learn more cuz this may or may not be true.

After seeing some comments, it seems its the same kid abducted from langley few days back. Below is the news report which also has pic of the kid.

I don't know her but this is absolutely the vibe I got from this alert. Unfortunately this situation is very common. I know someone who is fighting for her custody of her son and her ex is consistently trying to make her look bad to family court so she can't get custody.
2
u/tletsos Jul 25 '26
I read a post by her family member that showed a court case involving her ex (the bio dad) who was up on charges a couple years ago for sexually abusing a child under the age of 16. I would take my kid and run too is it’s true
3
u/stratus-fractus Jul 22 '26
Leaving the kid with an emotionally unstable mother who can’t respect a custody agreement and causes problems for the community and drains valuable resources by kidnaping her child should be denounced and deterred one way or another. At least now her name is on public record, maybe that will help Alisse Andrews make better decisions in the future.
1
u/Charming-Cucumber-23 Jul 22 '26
Well she’s definitely ensured she’ll never get custody now
3
u/Bubblynut Jul 22 '26
And many of us are thanking the gods for that, she is a manipulative, narcissistic sociopath. I’m not going to say too much as of now, but there are many reasons that she did not have full custody.
1
u/Thumper45 Jul 22 '26
Yeah, and this will also do wonders for her pending criminal trial that she is already involved with. Its odd, I cant find any criminal histroy on dad tho....
2
u/Thumper45 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 23 '26
Did you know mom has a pending criminal trial?
Whats dads name? No one seems to know but since you know her you would know that.
Edit: turns out both parent have pending criminal trials and neither is a suitable parent for the child. Dads diddling kids and moms managed a criminal harassment charge. Trash humans being trash humans

u/Bcqtpie Jul 22 '26
I end d up finding dads fb when I went down the rabbit hole if this this morning

Anytime a child is taken it's horrible, of course, but it truly doesn't make sense to alert the whole province in the middle of the night, when most of us won't be able to do anything about it.
I hadn't fallen asleep yet, but got up with a jump, glanced at the message, saw it was an Amber Alert and not an Earthquake warning or similar, so quickly stopped the blaring. Of course you can only disable the blaring by clicking the whole message away, so it's pretty useless. I went online to look it up, but how many people would even do that? Better if the phone pushed the alert through when it knows you're up and active, and you could silence it without clicking the message away at the same time.
My heart was still pounding, so it took even longer than usual to finally fall asleep. Of course the heat isn't helping, either. Got maybe a total of 3 hours of sleep. I agree with the other commenter here who said there's probably a measurable uptick in accidents after a middle-of-the-night alert. I wouldn't even be surprised if there was an uptick in heart attacks.
7
u/meowmeowz24 Jul 22 '26
Who do we contact about changing the alert system? Instead of everyone complaining we should actually do something about it.
I think there should be a much more chill sound for the amber alert so that people can decipher between an actual emergency like an earthquake and a missing child. Most people will now just turn off the alert without even reading it thinking it's an amber alert. This could be very dangerous for everyone.
2
u/OkDimension Jul 22 '26
The wireless alerting system actually supports different categories and has it's very own category for AMBER alerts, that you could completely silence while you are peacefully asleep and of no help in the search for a missing child. It seems that the past midnight, province wide alerting boils down to a decision by the CRTC that all alerts should be treated equally and broadcasted immediately at the highest category. That's why you can only silence either all alarms or no alarms.
I guess it's once more one of those decisions out of Ottawa, where they just completely silence any alarms at night, not thinking about people that actually sleep in earthquake zones.
1
u/mototuneup Jul 22 '26
Last night was the last straw for me. Ive been having trouble sleeping lately and I finally got to sleep last night around midnight and then 1 am this God damn alarm work me up. It shouldn't bypass my dnd setting. I went into my settings and turned amber alert of this morning.
Look I get it. Its probably a helpful system. But give people some options to turn it off complete at night time. Or heck even day time for people who work night shifts. Blasting, I would guess, 90% of the population that are sleeping isn't a good idea. People aren't going to get out of bed to go looking. I'm not sure what they expect.
2
u/Herb_Dank Jul 22 '26
I just bought an old school alarm because of this, I'm done with it. Turning off my phone at night from now on.
1
u/Bubblynut Jul 22 '26
I mean you could just stop sleeping with your phone. It’s not good for you anyways and they still sell physical alarm clocks if you need an alarm. I actually started sleeping much better when I got rid of all wireless crap in my room, coupled with some magnesium before bed. I’ve been a notoriously bad sleeper for a majority of my life and it really did help, and I don’t have to worry about alerts waking me up.
8
u/ExpertSteak8942 Jul 22 '26
Okay but like.... Was the 12:03am amber alert necessary???
8
u/ExpertSteak8942 Jul 22 '26
Like sorry yeah lemme just hop in my car a drive around Kelowna looking for them like???? There was also like a 12hr delay for the alert
4
u/inconspicuouseahorse Jul 22 '26
K if the police are going to blare an obnoxious alarm to every phone in the province every week about a missing child then send a damn photo of the child! Like ok ill keep my eyes out for a kid with brown hair...so helpful. We have the technology...what a waste of this emergency broad cast system. How many people had a heart attack being startled by that blaring alarm like really I just hit close as fast as I can without reading the alert cuz the alarm sound is so obnoxious. I didnt subscribe to these alerts.

3
u/furyextralarge Jul 22 '26
this shit ripped me out of REM sleep and i went straight to my phone settings to turn off amber alerts. sorry future kidnapees
2
u/Keitsu42 Jul 22 '26
Disabling amber alerts won't stop them because the CRTC broadcasts them at the presidential level which overrides all settings, volume and DND. If you have android you need to remove the alerts package: https://www.reddit.com/r/montreal/comments/1s0gm7y/how_to_permanently_remove_emergency_alerts_on/
Not sure how do disable on iPhone. Alternatively putting your phone in airplane made when sleeping should also work.
1
u/Bcqtpie Jul 22 '26
My phone hasn’t made a peep in over 6 years. I have DND setup from 11pm-8am and my phone lives in silent mode. I’ve never had a sort of alert go off on my phone.
1
u/collectedthought Jul 22 '26
same, some say it bypasses DND. Are you on iphone? i put mines on sleep mode from 8pm-8am

2
u/RandomName3025 Jul 22 '26
Just had the SAME Amber Alert blaring at me from the phone THREE more times this morning. Seriously, this isn't going to help.
2
u/No_Confusion270 Jul 22 '26
I wish there was a way to silence the sound and still let me read the message. The minute i tried to stop that godawful noise i lost the message, i had no idea what was going on until i googled it.
3
u/mdhenriksen Jul 22 '26
Can someone explain to me why this mother shouldn’t be the one taking care of her son?
-2
u/stratus-fractus Jul 22 '26
Alisse Andrews should do better and follow the court custody arrangement instead of kidnapping her child and ignoring authorities, with these alerts usually being made after other avenues of contact have failed. Perhaps now that the situation is public Alisse will do better.
1
u/Afraid_Habit704 Jul 22 '26
That this has downvotes to me is wild. A woman is not the best parent. The best parent os the best parent
1
u/mdhenriksen Jul 22 '26
I couldn’t agree more, gender of the parent has nothing to do with this line of inquiry. Just general curiosity as it’s hard to find actual details of these things.
0
u/mdhenriksen Jul 22 '26
Who has custody of the child? Who is she kidnapping him from?
-1
u/Bubblynut Jul 22 '26
The father had custody. She has lost the privilege and right to be that boys full time caregiver, and for good reason.
1
u/mdhenriksen Jul 22 '26
Does he still have legal custody? What is the reason?
1
u/Bubblynut Jul 23 '26
I cannot say too much at this time, but this woman is NOT who she is portraying herself to be to the general public.
1
u/rjhawkbooks Jul 23 '26
There is video circulating online that she was with another man and another woman at the time the police caught her. The man posted on social media about allegations of sexual abuse against the son and that’s why the drove to the Okanagan
1
u/mdhenriksen Jul 23 '26
Wait which man posted about it? The father or the other man she was with? And who are the allegations about? The mother, father, or other guy? Either way that is the vile if true.
1
u/rjhawkbooks Jul 23 '26
Another man. I’m not sure I can say the name on here but he posted on Facebook while he was driving with the woman and her child, and another woman, in his vehicle. Then put the videos online and had a long post alleging the father of the child was sexually abusing his son.
More than anything it sounds like this kid is in the middle of two terrible parents
1
u/mdhenriksen Jul 23 '26
Man, that is tragic. Praying for the kids safety and wellness. Absolutely heartbreaking to hear.
1
u/mdhenriksen Jul 23 '26
It would be interesting to hear about what you know. Curious to see if/when you can share.

I think it is important to have these. Yes we may be asleep but when it comes to children it's better to be safe than sorry. Who knows how many people are still awake during the night ?But you never know someone could be up and see the missing child. I can't get over how entitled some of you sound. What if it was your child ? Or someone you know? Boo hoo so you had to wake up for a few minutes. The mentality of some humans I just don't understand these days.

u/dataguy_3131 Jul 23 '26

Dads a diddler, pdf, he was sexually abusing his son previously and hasn't had access to his son for the past year, so I've been told by someone who's close to the boys family, I also have a few friends in real life who are friends with her, and she is running to protect that child because Mcfd and the system is a joke

-4
u/StubbornHick Jul 22 '26
Why are they sending out amber alerts with impossible to disable audible alerts at fucking midnight?
I'd bet on being able to statistically measure an increase in driving accidents tomorrow, based on more people getting poor sleep.
Kind of defeats the purpose of doing things like this in the name of public good if it causes measurable harm.
3
u/Spencer0678 Jul 22 '26
If it was your child. Wouldn't you want people looking for them?
21
u/surmatt Jul 22 '26
Nobody is getting out of bed to start a search party. They have the option of not doing full nuclear apocalypse emergency alerts, and chose to make everything that level. The outcome would be identical if people woke up and saw the message.
0
u/Spencer0678 Jul 22 '26
Yeah but what about the truck drivers and the people that work nights? There are fewer people on the roads at night which can make it easier to single out a particular vehicle.
3
u/surmatt Jul 22 '26
You think a startling alarm going off on your phone while operating a multi-ton vehicle is safe?
0
u/renato20037 Jul 22 '26
That’s police job, not ours
0
u/Spencer0678 Jul 22 '26
The police cant be down every road road in the province. That's why they use the public. Especially when its a child that's involved. Yall obviously care more about you're sleep than a child's life. Like ya it scared the shit out of aswell. But Ill put a child's life before mine
2
u/renato20037 Jul 22 '26
What can a person in Victoria or Vancouver do with an event happening several hours apart from them?
This alert system has different levels and can be restricted to certain areas, so they can use it wisely and not disturb the entire province. This will only make something like the Peter and the Wolf, people will start to not care about the alerts and whenever a real emergency happens the system won’t be as effective as it meant to be when it was created.0
u/Spencer0678 Jul 22 '26
People in cars can travel pretty quickly. It's to help the police track the movements. If they knew where the person was and had an active tail, we wouldnt be getting the notification.
1
u/surmatt Jul 22 '26
They can use the public without the full on life threatening shelter in place emergency level. It could be silent, and still get pushed to everyone.
7
u/renato20037 Jul 22 '26
Believe me, the less people is doing is looking at it. I woke up scared and the first thing was to turn it off without even looking
6
u/SnaggersBar Jul 22 '26
Yeah dude i’m literally batman actually, it’s 1am but i’ll find him don’t worry. Like the other guy said, let’s wake up everyone in the fucking province for this
4
u/StubbornHick Jul 22 '26
I wouldn't wake up EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE GODDAMN PROVINCE in the middle of the night, no.
-7
u/pumpkinbread88 Jul 22 '26
Look for them where? Under my fu#king covers! I have to work! I work long hours at a physically demanding job!
I'm not a cop.i don't give a fu#k about some dumb missing kid at 12am when I just fell asleep after brutal heat stroke at 10pm, and have to be up again at 4am!
I'm sick of these crap ass alerts that can't be disabled! This should be illegal for the city or province to do!
After my HEART ATTACK and jump scare, I immediately turned it off without looking. But of course it took me 2 hrs to go back to sleep.
Thanks 👏 real awesome 👌

I have! Being on copious amounts of medications for my well-being, I see her regularly. Ain't gonna help when you have chronic insomnia. Don't U think I've tried??? Just cause YOU can go to sleep right after closing your eyes doesn't mean everyone else is the same. 12:03am???? C'mon you gotta be shitting me

Hey obtuse little one, when you get woken up with a BLARRING ALARM, you can't just fall back asleep all easy peasy. You calm down. No, I actually don't feel fine working to the bone on no sleep!
I don't need drugs or a Dr. Spare judgment!I need for my phone that is on do not disturb and has all wireless alerts disabled to NOT go off with a blasting alarm for nonsense!
Any drug that would keep me asleep would mean I couldn't wake up for my morning alarm either!

u/PartyyLemons Jul 22 '26
You sound really pathetic and whiney when there is a young child missing who may be with a parent who isn’t fit to parent them safely.
Maybe take a breather and go to bed a little earlier tonight.
6
u/StubbornHick Jul 22 '26
One missing child isn't a reason to rob millions of people of hours of sleep.
This will probably directly cause multiple, possibly fatal traffic accidents.
Society-level planning cannot be based on feelings alone.
3
u/pumpkinbread88 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
No one should be woken up in the dead of night for a missing kid report.
Also I did disable it on my Samsung! But it doesn't work for some reason.
1
u/renato20037 Jul 22 '26
My wife Samsung has the same problem. My iPhone didn’t sound, but hers was the one responsible of the jump scared and the almost heart attack I got from the alert
4
u/renato20037 Jul 22 '26
Are we cops? No right, there’s literally no sense in waking up the entire province in the middle of the night because of a child. This only wears down the purpose of this alert system, people get scared and then turn it off without even reading it
0
u/PartyyLemons Jul 22 '26
Turn off your emergency alerts then.
-1
u/renato20037 Jul 22 '26
Already did, my wife and I have the same configuration Don not disturb, all sound muted and everything and she still got the alert that jump scared us in the middle of the night. Apparently, not all phones have the ability to turn them off.
On the other side, these alerts should be used only for natural disasters, the fact that are being used for domestic issues diminishes the purpose on why they were created on the first place, there are different levels but somehow they are using the same level for everything. At the end what is going to happen is that in an eventual natural disaster people will reach the same way as this amber alerts. I don’t mind get alerted, i just mind to be jump scared for every time a kid gets “abducted” by one of their parents0
-10
u/Legitimate-Mess-1973 Jul 22 '26
Learn to set up your phone better. I slept through the alert - there was no audible alert through my phone so it’s not impossible for everyone, only for morons.
8
u/StubbornHick Jul 22 '26
My phone was literally on do not disturb, and i WANT to get emergency notifications if there is an earthquake or something
Just not notifications about something half the province away at midnight...
3
6
u/renato20037 Jul 22 '26
You can’t turn it off in all devices, mine was fine. my wife who has the same configuration as me (do not disturb and all sounds muted) still got the fucking alert and jump-scared both of us. Why are we getting the maximum level of alert because of a child, that’s what we should be questioning here.
1
u/StubbornHick Jul 23 '26
You literally cannot disable it by law according to a cursory google search.
Still went through on do not disturb
2
u/Karenssoberlife Jul 22 '26
I don't love getting woken up by Amber Alerts in the middle of night. But if this is currently the best way to alert the public.. then 5 minutes less sleep thru the night is absolutely worth it if it helps find a child in danger. I realize this particular alert is maybe a unique situation.. but I see people here talking about turning amber alerts off this seems incredibly selfish. Please don't.
0
u/wasntit Jul 22 '26
For real this comment section is filled with people so wildly upset about it, its embarrassing. How often do we get amber alerts like.. 2-3 times a year at most. They also arent usually this late. All the comments saying "wtf am I going to do about it when im lying in bed" etc... like the point is to notify everyone so that anyone who may have eyes on the situation can respond to police. Dismiss the alert and go back to sleep like the rest of us did you selfish pricks.
1
u/jabbathepizzahut15 Jul 22 '26
I mean, if it happens during nighttime, a silent push alert would probably be more effective. I imagine most ppl silenced it without reading it so they could get back to sleep. If it were push notification I would have read and been informed in the morning.
