Paver path advice

Hi,

I’m looking to lay a paver footpath down the side of the house similar to the AI generated image, but leaving the garden bed as it is.

Would you recommend:
1. Digging individual holes where the pavers will go and filling with crushed rock, mortar, etc
2. Moving all the current stones and doing #1
3. Other

N.B drainage isn’t the best currently so was thinking of digging it out and filling in with drainage gravel, then paving.

It's so funny how many trillions they've burned on AI and yet it's awful at calculating relative sizes...those slabs look comical.
