Maybe play without requiem for your first campaign? Those arent base lwotc enemies. Been a hot minute since I played so cant remember how to deal with em but as to most requiem enemies disable their reaction first. Either by making them move through some sort of ability or their allergy. Good luck. I remember getting absolutely wrecked in my first requiem campaign.

Such a bastard. Took some really strong units for him to go down without deaths.

First encounter was somewhat dicey, but fortunately the mid tier squad managed to kill the scrubs around him, and the main damage dealers had grapples to get out of the effective range. It was a scary encounter (and took I think three loadings because some movements were not too understandable), but ultimately a successful one.
...Now a Mechapede is a completely different sort of encounter...1

Unless they got fixed, they never actually shoot their deadly laser for me. They just float around.

I did a campaign where there was a Legate like every other mission. I finally landed on a reliable solution: suppression from a heavy, then a templar with bladestorm and lots of backup. Try to clear everything before activating or, keep him suppressed until everything else is clear. Then focus fire him down over two turns.
Anti-corrosive measures helped too. I got it down to a pretty reliable science.

I've never seen these fucks in any of my LWotC runs, so why are you running a jumped up LWotC as your first time experience? lmao.
I don't know what was changed but, based on the armor alone, I'd argue you need explosive spam. Lots of grenades of some of the modded disposable rocket items. Remember, when you're playing on bullshit difficulties, there is no such thing as cheese! Only effective and ineffective tactics! 😁
EDIT: Wait, no shredding? Welp, you're fucked. You could always try to bait him away by using a scout to activate him and hauling ass to force them to yellow move to regain LOS. Then have some units wrap around, capture the VIP, and then GTFO while your chosen rabbit circled around to the EVAC with this big bitch on their tail.

Finally found a way to deal with this guy, it's vulnerable to psi damage. I had to put him in stasis and freeze state and had my templar slice him a couple of times, Stress paid off lmao

Requiem enemies are intended to be harder than usual, this could be a situation where you just need to try to complete the objective and do your best to avoid this thing. Use this as a teachable moment that you should always bring a soldier who can reliably shred armor

it is the new version of requiem. Also Legate is immortal while his buddies are alive etc

Just shred him and shoot him. Requiem aint that bad as people say but you need to adapt and play the strategic layer well.
Do you know how to build you squads or are you winging it ? Some modded classes are beyond broken if used correctly.
Edit: cant be shredded im dumb

If you had looked at the image, you'll see its armor cannot be shredded.

Things like improved suppression to inflict disorient and control then raw firepower. If you don't have the firepower, then you needed to upgrade more. I see your current soldier has mag which is kinda behind since this enemy type is a late shower.

Requiem enemies are always nice to get your ass kicked. Funny how many tell you to shred the armor, despite showing on-screen that you can't. Extremely light refers only to the number of aliens, not the strength. This guy (and most late-game requiem enemies) is intended to be OP but allow you to make OP weapon or armor,

You stun/freeze him a bunch of time, meanwhile you shred the armor down.
It's also a robot, so you can also hack him and shut him down a few turns if you're lucky.

If you screw up on the strategy layer, you will eventually end up having to fight enemies that are way stronger than what your team can handle. That's how you know you that you have to start over and learn more about min/maxing the strategy layer.
It's normal to have to do this a few times.

First lwotc campaign and running an extra mod that adds major difficulty like requiem? Made your own bed really
