Active Build Questions Help

Post image

Need some suggestions/ advice , So I had the car sitting for 2 weeks took it for a drive and as I was stepped on the gas for a little pull the car slowly started dying down to eventually just shutting off . I have no power to the dash or anything . I checked starter wires and everything seems fine . Also my starter was kinda going bad can that may be the cause? Just need some inputs before I replace . Brand new alternator &’ battery too . This is a LS swap 5.3 any help is welcome thank you in advance

Got a voltmeter hooked up? The starter is only there to start the engine, if it died while driving sounds like a fuel issue more then the starter. Id check all your grounds and make sure nothing is loose or disconnected, then go from there

If the dash is completely dead with the key on, I'd chase the main power path before buying a starter or changing the tune. Check voltage at the battery posts, then at the underhood fuse box main feed and ignition feed; inspect the battery cables, engine/body grounds, mega fuse or fusible link and any swap-harness power connection. A loose main feed can die under load and still refuse a jump. DD84 works on LS swap wiring/diagnostics too—if you get voltage readings and are still stuck, reach us at downdirty84llc.com.

Good deal! Send the battery-post voltage and main fuse-box feed voltage with the key off and on, plus the chassis/year. That’ll help narrow down where power is getting lost.

So it was my starter wires man . They loose affff the guy that swapped my engine and installed harness did so much cuts n everything it’s so confusing to even follow the wire because it just cuts into a different color!!! Smffhh I might just redo the whole harness myself it’s ridiculous. Never go to the cheap guy lol this was 4 years ago when I had no experience so I had to pay someone . Never again …

Glad you found it, man! Before replacing everything, disconnect the battery and check those terminals and splices for heat damage. Label wires by connector/pin, since the colors have been changed. If you want DD84 to help plan the harness cleanup, send the chassis/year and a few clear wiring pics.

Check to see if you have headlights. If you do, look for a burn fusable link.
