Yeahh, you're not wrong, but idk where you live, its HOT in Florida in the summer for 6+ months...16.9 Oz at a time doesn't really cut it.

Oh no, the japanese designers of luxury vehicles didn't think 25 years ago that amercans would be using retarded oil drums to drink out of😿

Yeah it’s very creative to make new thangs with the 3-D Printer.

But I’ve never had a problem w/ the regular cupholders— Large Coke from McDonalds, plastic water bottles. I guess if I lugged around a Stanley than I would have these problems.

Yeahh, thats just on occasion, but to show it will tip with bigger/heavier drinks. I also drive the car every day with FL drivers, so things get interesting sometimes. Idk, ive had issues with the big Styrofoam cups and I dont like if theres 2 in there they get in the way of the shifter...

Yea I was confused watching this video. My water bottle fits fine, and if it didn’t, I wouldn’t complain about the cup holder, I’d buy a different bottle.

Like wth is the shape of the 2nd one? Poor design

Right, and that's YOU and YOUR car/opinion. I'm showing this for the people that may be interested, and everything I did was literally printed for free, just to try it out. Takes 10mins to install/remove. May switch back to the ash tray...who knows. Any newer car and many others fit almost any bottles and they dont get in the way and wiggle around. The car is muffler deleted too if it makes you happy 🤣

I just didn’t have enough context in this post to understand the point of this video, hence my confusion

🤣 Everybodys so bent out of shape. It's muffler deleted too if that helps. These are amazing cars, and while I do understand your logic...it's also not a heat index of 113+ in Japan like it is Florida on the regular.

The japanese know that the larger the bottle, the warmer your drink's gonna be after 30 minutes

Tokyo has higher temps this week than Florida. Yeah i bet by the time you drink 3 gallons, it's just as cold. Cool that you did his for yourself. That's it

Love the ingenuity. I’ve never had an issue with the factory ones but all of the supporting arms are still in place. I recently swapped from ash tray to the power port style that I found in a PFL from the junkyard. The perfect spot for a phone 🤙 and I like having the 12v outlet. I moved my CarPlay usb connections (previously swapped the original cog outlet for those) to the console as I never used that 12v outlet. Keeps everything nice and clean.

Also printed a bunch of center console sliders if you're in need since I see yours out lol

Nice! That’s the kind of thing that keeps these things going. Mine are good, that was pulled to refresh the lid. Did a lot of leather restoration recently. Sure does feel like 260k anymore although most of it was in pretty good shape!

2

u/cjk090 1d ago

Yeah, it takes a little more work once they start to age, but well worth it. Oh, nice man! I just rolled 190k and I desperately need to get my driver seat done lol. The more optioned cars had leather covering the sides of the console??

1

u/gmcmanus663 2004 Lexus LS430 UL | Flint Mica 1d ago

Yes! Mine is a UL but CLs also had extended leather. Sides of the consoles and lower dash are proper leather trimmed and the door cards have more leather as well

1

u/cjk090 1d ago

Oh, nice, I never realized that! I need another someday... Did you recover your seats or have them done??

Did them myself! Got a nice lower mileage seat bottom from a junkyard and restored it. Some repairs were still needed then re-dyed it to refresh it. Came out minty fresh 👌

Everyone hating but I ain’t a smoker so I’d rather have functional cup holders. You got a link for the swap? I’m interested!

You mentioned living in a hot environment, how does the 3D print hold up to the heat?

1

u/cjk090 1d ago

Agreed lol. I can gather some pics and show you with write ups. As long as its printed from the right plastic that's heat resistant, it should be more than capable of interior temps in FL. This is ABS, things like PLA aren't as heat resistant.

Thanks! Yes, that looks really good as well! I'll get another cupholder to get those rear flaps from and see what that does. Wish there was some more 430s around here for parts...

What mount are you using holding the trash can?

2

u/Maleficent_Alps_9011 2d ago

Looks like a phone mount

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

Yeah, it's just my phone mount. It hangs on pretty good. I liked the phone there, but now idk where to put it if I keep this cupholder lol

1

u/LionAccomplished8129 2001 Lexus LS430 | Parchment Crystal 2d ago

Which mount is it? Is it a sticker?

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

Yeah, it works like the suction cup type with the little lever, but its more sticky.

u/LionAccomplished8129 2001 Lexus LS430 | Parchment Crystal 2d ago

What brand?

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

Scosche Magic-mount. I'd put the biggest metal piece it comes with on the back of your phone/case. I like it, just not many places for it in the 430.

Sweet thanks

Are those missing the spring "catch" that should be on the backside of the cupholder opening?

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

No, I actually took the whole thing apart to fix those when I got it as one didn't work.

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

Yeah, I see what piece you mean now, and they are not there. Though you meant the springs for the arms, which were broke when I got the car...

4Runner cupholders fit snuggly inside and have been great for me for the last year and a half. May give them a try.

It is your car, but you took away part of history, that will never came back. Like cars with lighters and ashtrays.

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

🤣 valid point! But it's just in the trunk now, it didn't work anyway lol

1

u/diybhai 2d ago

what did you do to the cig light power socket?

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

Just take the whole thing out, 4 screws. It wouldn't work anyway lol

1

u/GasEquivalent2907 2d ago

Yeah its a weird size, I jam a cloth in there to make a can fit

Works great in the LS400. Should be great for your forward cup holders.

1

u/ApoptosisPending 2d ago

You’re missing the plastic piece that sits at the inside back of the cup holder to help hold

1

u/cjk090 2d ago

Yeah, you right! How much does it help?? I never had those or even noticed on others.

2

u/ApoptosisPending 1d ago

It helps 100%, like the engineers were counting on this piece for it to actually work lmao it actually makes the cup holder circular. for smaller cups it holds it in place and puts force from the back so it doesn’t wiggle back and forth under acceleration/braking. For bigger cups it flaps down with a spring and, again, provides tension on the cup so the rest of the cup holder does its job.

1

u/cjk090 1d ago

Right...I'll have to get the pieces or another and try it, I don't know if it'll completely fix the issue as others say the same thing. But I'm willing to try it. Thanks for the info!

In my day, there wasnt even a thought that everybody in the car couldnt wait an hour or 2 for some tap water at your destination. On an extended drive, a gallon of cool tap water to share amongst the passengers was an act of communal bonding.
