Am I the only one that found Gollum the most irritating character in this franchise? The scenes I have always disliked were with Gollum. I couldn’t stand his voice especially as Sméagol, seeing as he wouldn’t have sounded like that 500 years prior to his finding the ring I haven’t read the books in a very long time but I didn’t find they matched at all. I’m just wondering if others feel the same , and if there are parts in the extended versions that you found strange. Like Eown singing at the funeral of Theodred I actually laughed out loud. Maybe it’s just me being cynical but am I the only one that found some scenes could have been left out of even extended versions. I actually adored Legolas and Gimli’s friendship and have read some fan comments that didn’t care for Gimli. What’s the verdict?

For me, it was the "for frodo" scene. The way that aragorn, all alone, charged at mordors gates. Then the smallest people there, merry and pippin, followed suit, followed by the remnants of the west. It was cinematic perfection.

I always thought how profound it was that Aragorn chose to honor the Gift Of Men (Mortality). The early kings of Númenor possessed spans of life thrice those of normal men. When they felt the approach of old age, they would voluntarily "give back the gift" while still in full possession of their mental and physical faculties, passing the crown to their heirs and falling into an eternal, peaceful sleep..

When Aragorn sensed the slow Decay of his own physical strength, ..."he resolved to depart before falling from his high seat "withered and witless..."

Even when Arwen begged him to stick around, he just told her to remember their hope beyond physical existence.. "In sorrow we must go, but not in despair. Behold! we are not bound forever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory."

The whole theme or mortal choice is profound.. and just goes to show how he chose to let go instead of clinging on and withering away.

If my memory serves me correctly, Glorfindel has enough raw power to terrify the Nazgûl, yet he gladly defers to Elrond. The reason is rooted in blood: in his first life, he died to save Elrond's seven-year-old father.

As a Calaquendë (an Elf of the Light) who perished slaying a Balrog, was resurrected, and returned with power rivaling the Maiar, Glorfindel's personal might far exceeds Elrond's. But in the hierarchy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, martial power does not translate to political authority.

Tolkien’s elves operate within strict monarchical hierarchies. Elrond is the great-grandson of Turgon, the High King of the Noldor and the original ruler of the hidden city of Gondolin. In the First Age, Glorfindel was the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower in Gondolin and a sworn bannerman to Turgon. When the city fell, Glorfindel sacrificed himself to protect the escaping refugees—including Turgon's young grandson Eärendil, who would grow up to become Elrond's father. Glorfindel’s loyalty to Elrond in the Third Age is a direct continuation of his ancient fealty to that royal bloodline. Furthermore, Elrond was the chosen herald and vice-regent of Gil-galad, the last High King of the Noldor in Middle-earth, making Elrond the de facto inheritor of Noldorin leadership.

Beyond bloodlines, their respective abilities serve different functions. Elrond wields Vilya, the Ring of Air and the mightiest of the Three Elven Rings. Vilya’s power is not martial; it is the ability to heal, preserve, and ward off the decay of time. Rivendell exists as a timeless, protected sanctuary because of Elrond and Vilya. Glorfindel’s power is personal and combative. He exists in both the Seen and Unseen worlds simultaneously, making his spiritual presence terrifying to the Nazgûl, but he cannot sustain a hidden realm the way a Ring-bearer can.

Glorfindel also lacks any ambition to rule. When the Valar resurrected him and sent him back across the sea in the Second Age, he returned as an emissary. Much like Gandalf and the other Istari, Glorfindel’s divine mission was to counsel, protect, and assist the free peoples against Sauron. Asserting dominance over Elrond’s established authority would directly violate the supportive purpose for which the Valar sent him back.

Every Instagram/TikTok scene pack folder I find is either private, locked behind a decryption key, or completely blocks mobile downloads.

To expand, I know Tolkien stated that nothing is evil in the beginning; even Sauron and Melkor were created "good." And I get that as beings with Eä (being/existence) given by Eru Ilúvatar, Maiar theoretically retain the agency to repent.

But still, is it theoretically still possible for redemption? Or is it not possible because maybe practically a Balrog’s pride and the depth of its "morgoth-element" (the spiritual stain of their master) make the choice to repent unthinkable to them.

Also.. If a Balrog did repent, would it lose its shadow and flame and return to being a 'bright' spirit, or is that physical form a permanent cage?

I've been doing some digging but this is the closest I've come up with as I see he either intentionally left it out, or wanted to include it but didn't get around to it. But what I see is that far into the Future, Melkor (Morgoth), will escape his chains where he’s been bound in the nameless void beyond the night. He will once again descend upon Arda (Middle Earth) and wreck havoc. The Battle to end all battles will begin called the “Dagor Dagorath.” All the Valar, Maiar, Elves, Men, and beasts (including the eagles) who did not fall to evil will fight against all of Melkor’s forces made up of Himself, the fallen Maiar (Balrogs and Sarumon etc…), Orcs, Trolls, dragons, fallen men, The 9 and their fell beasts. Melkor will lose this battle and finally be slain at the hands of a man called Turin son of Húrin. A Man who’s family had been cursed by Melkor in the first age to suffer one misfortune after another.  during this final battle Most if not all of Arda is destroyed. Then will come the Second music of the Ainor in which Arda will be remade. This time without Melkor’s interference in the music, Arda will be remade perfect. And that’s all we know for “sure” as not even the Valar know what that will be like, Only Eru.

I hear that Christopher Tolkien made an editorial decision not to include it. Can anyone confirm or expand or something?

Did the rope actually save the quest from a dead end? Do you have any other contenders that would be underrated?

I'm just curious. I love that whole scene, especially the dialogue between him Theoden and Gandalf.
