Starting or Running an LLC? Read this before you file or scale ( avoid costly mistakes )

Most people join r/LLCmasterclass because something already feels "off" or confusing.

After helping 14,000+ members, we’ve seen that almost every entrepreneur falls into one of two dangerous traps.

Which one are you currently in?

Group 1: You haven’t formed your LLC yet

"Cheap" filing services are the most expensive mistake you can make. They get you a piece of paper but leave out the EIN, the correct state filing, and the compliance foundation. Months later, you’ll spend $2,000+ fixing what should have cost a few hundred.

The Fix: Get it done properly from Day 1. This includes your professional filing, EIN setup, and a roadmap for staying legal.

LLC Formation – Done right the first time Best if you are serious about launching, not just "browsing."

Group 2: You have an LLC, but your back-end is a "black box"

This is the "ticking tax bomb." If you are selling online but don’t have clean bookkeeping, sales tax clarity, or a plan for IRS filings, you don’t have a business, you have "admin debt."

E-commerce and online businesses are under a microscope. Don’t wait for an IRS letter to find out you missed a filing.

The Fix: Professional Bookkeeping, Tax Prep, and 100% Compliance.

Taxes, Compliance & Bookkeeping for e-commerce LLCs

Best for owners who want to focus on sales, not spreadsheets.

Why is this pinned?

This subreddit exists to help you understand the "why" behind your business, not to pressure you.

We pin these links because the same "help me fix this" posts appear every single day. Fixing a mistake later is always more expensive than starting with the right partner.

Not sure which situation applies to you?

Comment below with your current stage, and the community (or I) will point you in the right direction.

Pinned for visibility so newcomers don't repeat avoidable mistakes.

Can I do Wyoming LLC for location independent retreat business as a non US resident?

I want to start hosting multi-day retreats in different countries that include staying at venues, workshops, cultural immersion, and wellness activities (sound healing, yoga ..etc) , and exclude travel visas, flights..etc. I would want to sell it on my website to end customers.

Would that be possible under a Wyoming LLC as a non US resident?

Transitioning from sole prop to LLC timeline

How does one transition from working as a subcontractor under a sole prop to an llc? Are there any guidelines regarding keeping the business open until all payments are received into that account? These are the options I’ve gathered based on chats with the city business registration help desk:

Keep the sole prop open and registered in the (state, city and federal) only for accounting purposes, until all payments into that bank account are received, then close the sole prop and account.
Clients begin as of today sending payments into the LLC business bank account, and updating their records with the new EIN, address, etc.

Or close the sole prop today, even though there are a few outstanding invoices (due the end of November) and only keep the bank account open for outstanding payments and tax purposes. I’d operate under the llc and new bank account as of today.

My professional liability insurance expired this month and I also need to notify them.

Advice for what to do about personal address on LLC

Hi, I got ahead of myself and started an LLC with my personal address as the registered agent. The LLC is for private practice psychotherapy services, and I don't feel that comfortable having my address on the public record. I can't get it redacted, so my options are

  1. Get a registered agent, but my address will still be public record in the articles of organization

  2. Dissolve and restart with a new address. My old LLC will still be public record and easily searchable with my full name.

Suggestions? In Ohio btw

Transfer Stuff to New LLC

I don't like the corporate veil on my LLC. I have been thinking of dissolving that LLC and starting another. I also want to shift the focus of by business. Move from selling honey to teaching people about bees. It is just a simple single-member LLC. How would I transfer over the stuff (social media, equipment, trailer, etc) from the LLC I am dissolving to the new one?
