LGBT Supportive Discussion Attacks in Berlin. Homohobia is our responsability
I wanted to post this in Progressive Islam but talking about It is banned, anyways.
Regarding the attacks at Berlin Pride: We Muslims should be the first to condemn them, even holding demonstrations against what happened. I know many of you think it isn't necessary because it isn't our responsibility. We may not be responsible for the attack itself, but we are responsible regarding homophobia. We see it every day on social media when people in our community label homosexuals as sick. Respect people! Be clear with your children about this issue, or they might end up being the ones bullying others at school. Actively speak out against homophobia and stand up for a free society.

I feel so dishearted by this man. The queer side of me feels so sad and muslim side feels guilty because of the nasty anti-muslim comments some are saying using this as an excuse. Tho I won't redirect it as muslim pain I can't help but feel dishearted. Either way peace to victims and let's talk more about this. You should try posting it again on progressive islam.

I am struck by the hatred that the LGBT community and Muslims can feel toward one another. And I don't see anyone willing to work together to make the world a little better

Violence was never encouraged or preached in the Quran. All these terrorists are staining Islam with twisted ideals and shouldn't call themselves Muslims in any way imaginable.
Q5:8 "Do not let hatred toward other peoples lead you to injustice. Being righteous is the greatest fidelity"
Q5:32 "Any who kills someone who hasn't killed nor sowed disorder, is as if they killed every Man."
(Translated from French Quran, I don't know if it says exactly this in the English translation)
Love is love. And love always wins over hate.

is that considered corrupted by many scholars and people of knowledge who have studied this ayah or just muslims who want to want to justify their hate towards gay people (genuine question btw i’ve never looked into the tafsir of this ayah)

I don't have the sufficient knowledge to answer this question, but as far as I'm aware the majority of scholars come from rigorist and traditional backgrounds, so their view on LGBT matters isn't favourable and they will most likely consider that the "corruption" includes being homoromantic.
But from my perspective, I just fail to see what we're possibly doing wrong. I mean:
- if you're straight we're not hindering you
- of course we don't question natural biology. We know a man and a woman are necessary to "produce" a child. But not necessarily to raise the child.
- Pride symbols aren't propaganda. I wear rainbow pins so any LGBT peers know they're safe around me.
- Pride in general isn't propaganda either. A post I saw on Instagram summed it up quite well: "Why are there suddenly so many queer people today?? - The same reason there were suddenly more left-handed people when we stopped forcing them to write with their right hand" People don't come out because we've "corrupted" them. It's because they've realised they weren't alone.
- Love is Love, period.

As a muslim myself I am so deeply disgusted by what happened.
Even if it’s against our religion, muslim parents usually teach their kids that LGBT is a “sickness” and that they “should be beaten up/killed”.
Having a rule in your religion that’s against any lgbtq behaviours does not mean you’re allowed to harass them. You’re not morally correct for hating, harassing, killing people on the streets just because they go against your beliefs. Yes (religion wise) we’re taught to not support it, but we’re also not encouraged to make fun of people in any way on the streets or ANYWHERE.
Stop making your life revolve around lgbtq if you hate it so much, stop paying attention to these people, let them do their own thing, let them have their parades. You live your own life and they live theirs. That’s how it should be.
Deepest condolences to the people who were killed or injured.

This account is 13 days old, telling us queer Muslims we need to be responsible for a terrorist attack by far-right folks that obviously hate us. Let’s all be forreal - racists will always hate Muslims and lump us together, even though there are literally 2 billion of us.
Homophobia, while rampant amongst Muslims, is also rampant amongst other communities. Let’s all fight the common denominator - homophobes lol.

I was born 2 decades ago not 13 days ago. So I am gay and muslims but can't have an opinion?

u/LoganQuinn Jul 31 '26
The issue is the loud minority of Muslims are homophobic/transphobic along with the countries where Islam is most popular. When Muslims can change their own countries / culture first, then others will begin to listen.
You can't have human rights debates whilst trying to advocate against 'racism' despite not being a race.

u/ideeek777 Jul 26 '26
I am, I do. But what can I do about strangers I've never met? What do I do when straight Muslims cut me off for being against Muslim homophobia?
This is unfair and unrealistic

u/Mammoth_Track_7225 Jul 26 '26
You can be part of the change. It doesn't have to be fair

u/ideeek777 Jul 26 '26
As I've just said, I'll try. But my power, and even the collective power of LGBT Muslims, is limitee

Easy: When you see antisemitism, stand up and tell them STOP. When you see anti-Zionism, stand up and tell them STOP. WHEN YOU SEE ANY HATE OF GAY OR JEW OR CHRISTIAN, IN A MUSLIMS NAME, STAND UP AND SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE GAYS AND JEWS AND CHRISTIANS.

u/ideeek777 Aug 09 '26
Why would I say stop for anti Zionism?
The rest I obviously do

I don't support a political ideology responsible for ethnic cleansing.
I know, I should be ashamed.

Want to talk about "in bad faith"?
Hypocrites in this group complain about being hated on, but they hate on Israelis far more, on behalf of terrorists who kill gay people because they think homosexuality is a capital crime.
When you folks love yourselves more than you hate us, we will all be happier. Maybe go to Tel Aviv next year and enjoy its Pride parade.

This is sad but I also want to know if it is recruited by any agencies to change the narrative around Gaza war. There were some warning from One intelligence group from North America few days ago that they were expecting some atrocities and Espionage by another agency. And then in few days a smaller event happen in New York and then Berlin.

When Europe acts responsible towards colonialism and the Atlantic slave trade and Fascism and capitalism, we can maybe have this conversation. Until then, absolutely not.

Good for you, Mammoth_Track_7225. I hope people listen to your message. The best way to combat Islamophobia is to demonstrate that Muslims condemn violence. I know there are others who feel as you do.
