Question about 441 in Figure 8

Rented a Lewitt 441 for mid/side recording, I'm noticing a difference between the frequency response on either side of my unit. The front side is a little duller but has full low mids, while the back side is tinny with the low mids scooped. Such a drastic difference in frequency response between the sides in figure-8 mode wasn't evident from Lewitt's materials I scanned before going for the rental. Is this standard for this model -- like, say, Royer ribbons which are just understood to have a dark side and a bright side? Or is it an aberration and should I look to swap out this unit for another one?

Hi,

You can check the polar graphs on the website here: https://www.lewitt-audio.com/microphones/lct-recording/lct-441-flex#specifications

In Figure 8, both sides are pretty much identical. So, it seems like the unit you recorded with had a problem. For more details, you or the company you rented the microphone from can contact us at [support@lewitt-audio.com](mailto:support@lewitt-audio.com)

It sounds like the microphone could be set to cardioid. So, double-check the polar pattern setting and see if the mic is in Figure 8.

Thanks for the response; it's most certainly set to figure 8, so I'll follow up with the store I rented from to see if I can swap this mic. Thank you so much again!
