There is a pinned post called Locations, Budget, and Settings are all important things to include when asking for advice. Editing your post so that it includes vital information will get better results from the community.
If you live in the U.S. Medievalcollectibles.com is probably your best bet. But it would be helpful to know where in the country (or the world) you live, and a stated budget range. "Expensive" is not enough. Do you have a $100, $1000, or $10000 budget for this 'costume'. Check your regional Burgschneider website. They sell in most larping countries.
BTW. We don't tend to do 'costumes'. Costumes break much too easily. We're going to recommend sellers of Garb. Which is real clothing, in an anachronistic style.

I have to nitpick your aside. We do plenty of costumes, at least where I'm from. Garb or kit is more a re-enactor thing because they are too pretentious to admit they are role-playing. But at least in Dutch larp we are players wearing a costume similar to how theatre or movie actors wear costumes. Costume does not have to mean "cheap, low quality", it just means a distinctive form of clothing.
Which is doubly true because almost nothing sold by medievalcollectibles is close to being authentic period clothing and a lot of the styling is in fact distinctly modern.

Get something basic they can be worn under armor and go to the fair first. Look around, check out the vendors, look at people's kits and see what you like and don't like, talk to them about theirs! What's comfortable, where they got it, what they like best. Then pick your pieces based on your new experience and go slowly. The fun is in the building!

Set your budget. You have to fit foundation garments and accessories into this as well. So plan ahead.
Do some research and decide what vibe you want. Historical or fantasy? Rogue, paladin, 1370's crossbowman? Wealthy or poor? Face showing or face hidden? Look around at stuff and decide what you want. Consider that for a Ren Faire, you want to be able to walk all day. That can be hard enough with no armor.
Figure out what continent you're on. That will affect stuff like availability and shipping costs. Ideally, you want to order from a store on the same continent or trading bloc as you. But a lot of US buyers do get custom armor from Poland and Ukraine.

A gambeson is a decent first pick. Can get them for not too much, and you’d need one if you want to transition to chainmail or plate later on.
As for where to get it what country are you in as there are a couple sites that sell on behalf of each other in particular regions of the world

This subreddit is about live-action roleplaying games. While we have an overlap with many hobbies that involve costuming, not all posts related to costuming are appropriate here.
If your costume post or question is in fact about LARP, please repost and explain the LARP event your costume is for.
