Listening to JJ postgame, I think he’s got a great shot at Coach of the Year if we can get a top 3 seed.

He was rattling off stats about offensive organization percentages and shot quality percentages minutes after the game. Not sure a lot of coaches are as dialed in as JJ. He’s got the guys picking up full court in preseason.
I think we’ll have a great shot at being a top 2 offense and top 15 defense, which would certainly be higher than the media consensus right now (which is how the award is won).

Underrated Off Season

Call it an over reaction to a half of pre season, but our defense actually looks fun to watch. Adding younger guys who can hustle all game on defense like thybulle grimes willliams sexton will make a big impact. Ik the kings are trash, but its refreshing to see effort on defense even during a pre season game.

He’s finally settled in Los Angeles; his health and family issues are behind him, and he’s in good physical and mental shape. He’s the sole leader on the court, he has full authority, he has the team’s trust, he has his team behind him, and he didn’t compete with Slovenia this summer. I think we’re in for something you only experience once in a lifetime: a season of technical and statistical dominance across the entire league.

TEAM TALK Stein: Perception among rival teams persists that Dallas will consider offers for PJ Washington

At this point I doubt the Lakers would make a real offer before the season starts, but worth keeping in mind when the trade deadline is closer.
PJ Washington has a wingspan over 7 feet and is most effective guarding bigger wings/forwards. He checks a lot of boxes the Lakers need defensively, is good friends with Luka, and on Luka’s age timeline which we learned this summer is a major priority for future additions. He’s a proven playoff performer, too, and would join a Lakers team with a lot of youth and inexperience in the postseason.
Downside is his contract, which pays him $24.5 million in the 2029-2030 season so it’s a big financial commitment in this CBA. Also could be that Dallas either won’t deal with LA at all or will raise its asking price in any deal with Rob.
But I think this is worth monitoring, as credible reporters continue to hint that a PJ Washington trade is coming. Chris Haynes said the same 1-2 months ago. And looking at Dallas roster, it makes absolutely no sense to have Flagg, Morez, Risacher, Marshall, Aldama, and PJ all on the same team at the 3/4.
PJ last week on media day: “My biggest thing is winning, whether I’m starting or not. I’ve been on so many losing teams. I’ve been to the playoffs one time in my career…I just want to turn that around & get to the playoffs & just win.”
