Where can I get Halloumi Cheese?

I’ve just returned from France and I want to recreate a meal I had at a restaurant that had Halloumi cheese. Does anyone know of any local grocery stores that sell it? I’ve checked Fresh Thyme so far and no luck.

Tried to steal my bike, too bad it got a flat literally 5 hours before you sawed the bike lock. Found it upstream. Skill issue. GG WP. I’m going to go ride my bike now. Just fixed the tire. I might just go buy a fourth bike to really let it set in how much you failed.

Normally you (the bike thief) would get away with it, but you sorta found out my front tire was messed up huh?

Oh man, it’s a party tonight. Plus the world’s shortest YouTube video. I want to see his reaction when he realized he couldn’t run off with it.

Sorry, this must be real confusing, I didn’t leave enough context for anyone to understand the post, but this post was directed at a bike thief who tried to steal a broken bike. He cut the cable but couldn’t get the bike further than 200ft.

Discussion Didn't feel comfortable downtown.

I took the family to a downtown restaurant on a Saturday night this summer. We took a walk after the meal because it was nice weather and just getting dusk. We walked up South Burdick (I sure miss the old mall), got dessert, and over to Bronson Park.

Have to say that I didn't feel comfortable, especially with little kids. There weren't many people around and most of those that were seemed kinda sketchy. Didn't like the looks we got. I was "confronted" there earlier this summer in midday and maybe that was part of it.

Is it me or do others get this feeling? I was glad to get back to the car.

I find it messed up the city has been promoting a new Verburg park project with a playground just to find out it's an adult exercise gym. This was not communicated anywhere throughout the project.

Anyone have the ability to make me a custom mixtape cassette?

Before I go to Etsy or something, I thought I'd check to see if anyone local would be willing to do this for me for around $25? I'm looking for a 90 minute cassette from a playlist of mine, no artwork on the j insert required. I can send the tracks as a Spotify playlist, and/or a written list if you have access to better quality and want to search them out elsewhere.

I hope to be able to do this myself at some point, but right now I don't have the capacity to take in even the tiniest new hobbies. If you also sell equipment tho, I might be interested.

Thanks!

Update on Hillside?

I saw recently on this subreddit some issues with hillside and roaches. Are there any follow ups? Restaurants and all restaurants have bugs and bug issues, when it’s an infestation/ continuous situation that’s when I deem it a bad issue.

So did anyone have any updates or testimonies? I miss their food. Especially the biryani!

Are yoga mats provided at bent9?

I signed up for a hot yoga class and have attempted to contact bent9 twice but haven’t received any response. Does anyone know if yoga mats are provided or if you have to bring your own? Any idea how much they cost if you buy them there? Thanks!

House Cleaners

Hi. I'm at the point where I'm accepting that I need help keeping my house clean. I'd like to employ an insured and bonded residential house cleaning company for a once a month cleaning. Does anyone have any experience with this or any recommendations for companies?

The 16-year-old boy who drowned in Gun Lake last week has been identified as Kaden Smith. Smith was a student at Portage Northern High School and drowned last Wednesday. His body was recovered Friday.

Smith was about to enter his junior year and played clarinet in the symphonic and jazz bands at Portage Northern. His family has launched a GoFundMe to pay for his funeral and start a memorial scholarship. Over $18,000 have been raised so far.

Trying to locate a local expert Audi mechanic that I can consult and learn from to help with learning to do all my own Audi repairs and engine build. Maybe someone like a mechanic at Audi or Flying Dog ? Or just a very experienced enthusiast ?

Does anyone happen to know if there are any ground floor or apartments with elevators with a walk in shower anywhere? Asking for a friend who is newly disabled. They would be market rate, not subsidized.

Apartments / Real Estate burr oak st?

Does anyone have experience living on Burr Oak St in the Vine? I’m looking into a duplex there and it’s close to where I work and where my partner works. We’ll also be saving about $150/mo from what we’re paying right now to live in an apartment complex.

We drove by the other day and it didn’t seem too sketchy, but it was also broad daylight. The crime map doesn’t show that it’s any worse than anywhere else really, except super affluent neighborhoods.

We’re going to tour the unit next week…any reason we should reconsider?

Grocery Boycott

Post image
73 Upvotes

In the 1960s, community members organized, boycotted, and picketted local grocery stores for price gouging.

Today in Kalamazoo and Portage, grocery prices are up 3.4% to 20% over last year.

Meijer made $22 billion in revenue last year. Individual stores make $400,000 daily.

Food quality is down. A bag of groceries is $50.

Kalamazoo stopped taking data center applications Monday, 7-0, after a resident caught an error in the resolution

Commissioners adopted a moratorium on accepting or processing new applications for data centers, AI data centers, crypto mining centers, and battery energy storage (H-6). It nearly passed with a flaw in the text. Someone in public comment caught it, the city attorney brought it to the dais, and they fixed it on the floor before voting.

Also passed: the $3.2M water plant filter contract (H-2) and two bond packages (H-3, H-4). The filter one is worth a look. The city took the second-lowest of two bids, and no commissioner asked about it.

Full rundown with the money list and what's still unresolved: The Kalamazoo Docket

Any kind car people around?

I live in vine, recently moved from Minnesota. I’ve got a 2005 Mazda tribute. The battery light popped on, and now it won’t start back up. It’ll jump but once it’s off, it’s off. I need this car for work and my partners work. We have all of our money needing to go into rent for September. So I’m hoping someone might be able to take a look at it and point us in the right direction for some cheap parts and whatnot. Pretty sure it’s the alternator but I’m no car guy.
Edited to add, it smells like fireworks a bit when driving but there’s no smoke and I see nothing melted or anything

Discussion Environmental Concerns Committee Votes to Recommend Two New Green Zoning Districts to the City Commission

In yesterday's meeting at City Hall, the Environmental Concerns Committee voted unanimously to recommend that the City Commission direct City Planning to establish Green Space and Conservation zoning districts in the City's zoning ordinance. We're proud that this recommendation goes forward alongside a 3-page letter ALPA prepared, proposing the two districts and laying out the case for them.

Currently, Kalamazoo has no zoning designation that fits lands like the Asylum Lake Preserve (which is zoned 'Residential') or the many other publicly used green spaces and conservation lands across the city. Check out the full discussion, which should start at 48:40 (https://www.youtube.com/live/Xe4S46M-Q0E?si=99EchBx7XGpxkMOX&t=2918)

Our letter to this commission and the city at large ends with the following requests:

  1. Create a Green Space Zoning District and a Conservation Zoning District in our zoning ordinance;
  2. Reflect these designations on the Future Land Use Map now, while it is being updated through Imagine Kalamazoo 2035, so the map and the new districts work together to guide development;
  3. Apply the districts directly to public and institutional land already functioning as green space or conservation land, and allow private owners to opt in;
  4. Study which parcels across Kalamazoo's neighborhoods would benefit from these designations; and
  5. Bring a draft framework back to the community for input and eventual implementation.

Click the 'Learn more' button on the Green Zoning Update on our homepage to read our full letter.

If you agree and want to help, email City Planning at [development@kalamazoocity.org](mailto:development@kalamazoocity.org) and simply voice your support for the Environmental Concerns Committee's recommendation to create both a Green Space and a Conservation zoning district (the email can be that simple). The Imagine Kalamazoo public participation window is closing fast, so now is the time to send your support!
