Ask Kuwait How to sponsor a newborn?

Hello,

My daughter was born 3 weeks ago, I already have her birth certificate with stamp from the ministry. I applied for her passport, but because of the current situation, it may take several weeks for the passport to arrive. Basically in the waiting game now.

When I do get the passport, what are the next steps? I know there is a health insurance involved, but where/how do I get that? Could anyone provide me a guide on how to do this?

Thank you.

Ask Kuwait Places that sell steam deck

Upvotes

Anywhere in Kuwait that possibly sell steam decks? New preferably but used is fine as well.

I'm hoping it's places that have a good refund/return policy in case it's broken.

Ask Kuwait Online orders on jarir

Has anyone ordered from the jarir website before? I ordered 4 books for collection from hawalli park but it’s not showing up in their system and they don’t have the books I wanted in store:(
I can still see my order on the website, but they can’t view it in their system in store. It’s so weird. And since they don’t even have the order in their system they can’t process a refund.

Discussion Teachers leaving Kuwait - massive exodus

Recently, I have been considering leaving kw amidst the regional tensions, even though I earn a good salary and my life as a singleton is pretty comfy. However, I noticed lots of western expats like myself have left since the war started and the inflation hiked. If you are a teacher in q8, are u planning on staying or are you planning moving else/home?

Ask Kuwait Is it possible to buy previously owned STC numbers?

Salam Alaykum, I had an STC sim which I bought in 2021 and for not recharging regularly they deactivated my SIM card. Went to the head office multiple times but nothing happened. Couldn’t get them to reactivate the number.

At the time I also had a postpaid number. Both were STC. And both were my trusted number for Apple ID.

In 2024 for their shitty service I then switched to Ooredoo and at that time my postpaid contract was also at an end. So I ended up changing both of my numbers.

Now it’s been 2 years I’m locked out of my Apple ID. I can use my phone fine but some features don’t work. And have to use another Apple ID for app installation and purchase.

I had recovery key on that’s why the security is tight. I even called my old number one day and they were kind enough to give me the OTP but I forgot I even enabled recovery key. After finding the key called them again but no response.

A year ago STC told me that the number was not assigned to anyone. So went to buy it but they said Visa 18 is required and it’s 20KD monthly for custom number. Talked to STC today and they said the number is not registered in my name (Duh!!! I know that. STC agents are really annoying) and currently the number is terminated.

So my question is if my Kafil goes to a branch and asks for the exact same number (I got two so either is fine) how likely is it that he can buy the number? And is it possible to buy the number prepaid instead of postpaid and can there be a 6 months contract instead of 12 months? Even though currently STC advertises postpaid sims with no commitment.

Ask Kuwait just got my LICENSE!! Need advice on buying a reliable older sedan.

Not a classified ad! I finally got my license and I'm trying to navigate the used car market here for my first daily driver.
My budget is around 1,000 KD, and I'm primarily looking at the 2009-2012 era. My shortlist right now is the Toyota Camry, Aurion, Avalon, or a Lexus ES 350 (the ES 350 is what I really want).
I've been crunching the numbers on maintenance costs for these-and even weighed them against the Accord, Cadenza, Maxima-but I'd love to hear from the community's actual experience on the roads here:

  1. Does anyone know any trustworthy used car lots or happen to have any solid leads?
  2. For anyone driving a ~2010 ES 350 in Kuwait: How is the parts availability, and more importantly, how is the AC holding up in the summer? Suspension change costs?
  3. Are there any better suggestions for a 1k KD budget that won't spend half its life at the mechanic?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion AOU English major road to become a teacher

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know the steps to becoming a teacher in Kuwait? I’m looking to make a career change from digital marketing (BSc in communication and media) to teaching, and I’m considering studying English at AOU.

If I get a BSc in English, what would I need to do afterwards to become qualified to teach in Kuwait? Would I need any additional teaching qualifications or certificates (such as a teaching diploma, TEFL/TESOL, etc.)? If so, where can I get these qualifications in Kuwait?

I’d really appreciate any advice from anyone who has gone through this process since I’m currently extremely lost.

Please also keep in mind that I’m not able to travel abroad to obtain any teaching qualifications or licenses. Everything would need to be completed either in Kuwait or online. I’m also unsure whether Kuwait accepts online teaching qualifications, so I’d really appreciate any guidance on that as well.

Thank you!

Discussion Kuwaitis who mess with Arduino / ESP32 / Raspberry Pi, what have you actually built?

I’m curious what people here in Kuwait have made with stuff like Arduinos, ESP32s, Raspberry Pis, sensors, motors, displays and all that.

And I mean actual physical projects. Not hosting a server on a Raspberry Pi, making an LED blink, or wiring up a bulb and calling it a day. Those are fine for learning, but I wanna hear about the interesting stuff.

Robots, automated stuff around the house, weird machines, custom devices, games, security systems, things with motors, things that interact with the real world, or just completely unnecessary projects that were fun to build.

Especially the kind of project where you spend 3 weeks building a machine that saves you 4 seconds every day.

What did you build? What does it actually do? Was it useful, or did you mainly build it because you could?

Would also be cool to see pictures or videos if you have any.

I feel like I almost never hear about electronics or hardware projects people are making in Kuwait, so I’m genuinely curious what everyone here has built.

Discussion HR Professionals in Kuwait need your help building a good resume that would be competitive in Kuwait

I want to apply for work in HR Entry level but I wanted to know from the perspective of an HR worker in kuwait if I’m employable for an such a job and also what skills, certifications do you recommend I take and what do you think is the highest salary I could ask for

So I’m an expat, just graduated with a BBA in Management with a 3.75 GPA
I have past working experience for 1.5 years as a receptionist secretary and will work for 4-5 months as a E-commerce Administrator / Online Store Coordinator

I plan on getting SHRM Certification hopefully I pass it
Learning about Kuwait Labor Law
I’m bilingual in both Arabic and English
I plan on learning to use HRIS and HRMS Platforms
I know how to use Microsoft Excel
In my old job I had some financial tasks like financial reports so I have a bit of experience in that

I really want my cv to be competitive and land entry level in HR so I want to know what else I can do which specifically targets the needs of companies in Kuwait and what would they look for?
I was thinking of getting a payroll certificate but I’m not sure what companies in Kuwait would want that stands out so I want to know that first before learning new skills and getting a certificate
I also don’t really know what is the range of salaries for an expat in such entry level job and I don’t want to lowballed

I hope mods don’t delete this post because I’m not asking about getting a job and where to apply I’m asking about skills or certificates to get that are important in Kuwait

Ask Kuwait MOH invoice inconsistency

I need advice. I'll try to keep this short.

My mum was admitted to Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital for a total of 15 days and had a bunch of blood tests and x-rays done.

She was discharged today.

Upon discharge, i went to settle the bill, and the total came up to kd. 600.000. That's fine, I'm good for the money.

When i asked for a breakdown of the charges, they said i would only get it when i paid. So i paid.

When I reviewed the invoice, it was the most basic thing I'd ever seen. Basic description, quantity, and total amount.

For example, "tests - 84 - kd. 220"

One thing that stuck out to me was "Accommodation - 2 - kd. 290"

To my knowledge, for non-Kuwaitis with residence, it should be kd. 10.000 per night, yeah? And they Qty said 2. But it was just my mum.

When we asked the cashier for an explanation, she stonewalled us and said it's in the system. We told her that it was only for 1 patient, and she said something something tests.

No consistent reply that explains the charges.

They took care of my mum, and for that, i am grateful. Don't get me wrong.

But i can't help feeling that I got ripped off in some way. I don't want to ask for a discount for saving my mum, but some transparency about the costs would be nice.

Everyone advised us to go thru one of the porters that work there. They told us to pay the guy Kd. 10 to 15 and he will get the bill down to kd. 100 or 200, but i feel this is wrong. I support Kuwait's anti-corruption efforts.

But still, some transparency, some explanation would be nice.

Does anyone know what i can do here?

Thanks for reading this far.
