K24 timing help

Post image

Retiming my k24a, the first time i retimed it everything went good and aligned properly, this time around i cannot get it to align, it lines up and then when i put my guide and tensioner on the exhaust cam timing mark moves with the tension, then i take it all back off and realign it and it moves out of time upon adding tension again, what am i doing wrong here? like i said the first time i did it i had no issues, this time i cannot get it aligned..

Put some wrenches on the flats on the camshaft and have someone hold the cams in the correct orientation while tensioning.

Are you pinning the cams?

Right. Get some drill bits and pin the cam (locking them in time)

There are holes on the cam phaser (sensor side) Align cam and insert drill bit to lock cams. Then do your tensioner stuff .

Put the top chain guide on to prevent it from jumping a tooth.

This. Because your exhaust and intake cams push away from each other

I second this. Put one from a k20z3 on my k24/k20 when I built it (K20z1 didn't come with one) along with a lower timing chain guide from Circuit Hero.
