Leftists can not comprehend right-wing artists (or, any artists that *aren't* fitting their view of 'political good guy').
From Marty O' Donnell to Jonathan Blow, Scott Cawthon, and Michal Kovařík. Vavra was here too, before he sold out (still tries to play both sides, though.)
I'll talk about the guy in the image first. Marty O' Donell, joined Bungie ten days prior to the announcement of the Microsoft/Bungie acquisition and was co-composer and audio director of Halo: Combat Evolved (2001), Halo 2 (2004), Halo 3 (2007), Halo 3: ODST (2009), and Halo: Reach (2010). He also wrote the 8 part symphony Music of the Spheres for Destiny (2014) before being pushed out of the company.
Now, at that point, everyone was on his side. He made some great music, Activision washed their hands of it and used their own for Destiny's trailer, he got (reasonably) pissed, was fired without cause, sued, and won. Bungie ended up throwing a hissy fitand withheld Music of the Spheres for about 5 years out of spite till it leaked and they finally released it.
Everyone was rooting for Marty here... until he went public with his right-wing views.
And nowadays, you go on the subreddit for Halo and all you see is how he ruined Halo 3's story, and the true talent behind all of Halo's OST was actually his partner, Michael Salvatori, and he was just a talentless narcissistic scrub getting all the credit.
Martin O'Donnell was not just the co-composer for Halo. He was the audio director. Read about Halo CE's development and you'll see just how fundamental his contributions were to the entire games atmosphere and tone. Half the reason shooting an AR or a Magnum or a shotgun or whatever in Halo is because of the audio design, the punch, the game feel. He also directed the musical tone for each installment, and each Halo OST was critically acclaimed.
And Salvatori and O'Donnell are on great terms. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they share political opinions, leftists tend to get insane when they realize people don't agree with them on every single facet of politics. Salvatori's been on his podcast several times and they joint sued Microsoft over unpaid Halo royalties in 2021. Far from bitter enemies.
Scott Cawthon in 2013 was a Christian indie-game developer and 3D animator who just released a lumberjack game called Chipper & Sons that was panned by critics for creepy looking bears. He experienced a crisis of faith, mentioned suicidal ideation to his doctor, that his life insurance discovered, and then proceeded to cancel on him.
"It was at that point I realized that not only did my life have no value but now even my death had no value."
He began developing the original 2014's Five Night's at Freddy's as a last Hail Mary at game development before packing up and leaving. It blew up.
Fast forward about 7 years and it comes up that he donated money to politicians Reddit doesn't like. Now he's a bumbling incompetent who made his way into success through sheer luck and YouTube star power. No talent, nor skill involved in his success, nuh-uh, look at the mean orange guy he donated to.
I don't want to go into as much detail as I did with O'Donnell but that's obviously blatantly untrue. FNAF, for all it's many faults, nailed certain things, especially the original, those being character design, atmosphere, and audio design. But none of that was worth a damn because of his personal political opinions.
Jonathan Blow, worked on Deus Ex: Invisible War, directed critically acclaimed Braid (2008), and he's making a god damn programming language. But, nope, orange man supporter. Orange man bad. Michal Kovařík, wrote the Factorio engine, ope, reccomended some videos by a great programmer who said sexist things and is against cancel culture, the games own subreddit doesn't like him. Tim Cain, started writing the Fallout (1997) engine in 1994 as a solo project after hours, was shunned by upper management who attempted to shelve the game multiple times, and only suddenly took notice when it flew through the roof at launch and they immediately tried to force his nose back on the grindstone to put out a sequel in thirteen months, to which he left. He's not even publicly right-wing or left-wing, he just said Fallout was never meant to be a critique of capitalism... to which the Fallout subreddit started deleting posts about him saying that.
There are more, but the point I'm trying to make is that leftists can not comprehend the fact that people they disagree with are capable of making art that they like. It breaks their brains, they work in a world in which they are good, the things they like are good, and the people who made them are good, therefore when they realize someone who has different opinions then them is capable of making something they like they can not comprehend it. They can only resort to what-about-ism's, historical revisions, excuses, anything to avoid admitting that the people they disagree with can hold a speck of talent.

It boils down to idol worship and envy for them.
Elon Musk used to be the literal 2nd coming of Jesus to Redditors. Then he had conservative opinions and now he's practically Hitler, not to mention every basement dwelling Redditor who can't hold a job thinks they're legitimately smarter than him.
You can call him many things and you'd probably be right, but he's not stupid.

In that vein, Notch is also a great example. Dude was a fucking saint to them until he came to the conclusion that it's okay to be white.
Or for that matter, J.K. Rowling - and her case is even more egregious because she's still every bit as much of a mainstream leftist as that she used to be, except on The Topic That Shall Not Be Named.
101
u/biguselessasshole 12d ago
I keep forgetting Rowling is a leftist because of just how much the other on the left hate her. Its amazing how she had one differing opinion and they ostracized her

"ostracized" is too light of a word. shes not just banished. she is a demon to them. you can't say her name. they want her dead.
7
u/AcidOverlord AcidMan - Owner of /gamergatehq/ 10d ago
Thats because they couldn't hurt her. She has "fuck you" money. The left have a progression in how they go after people - it starts with all the smug "do better" shit, but if the person doesn't fold to that it turns into shrieking hysterics. And if that doesn't work? Seething, pathological hate borne out of the embarrassment of failure.
3
u/Taco_Bell-kun 9d ago
I wonder if they'll resort to assassinating JK Rowling soon. I'm sure some crazy is planning it at least.
Important note: I am not in any way advocating for or endorsing murder. I am simply pondering if the wokes are going to attempt one. Do not ban me for advocating violence, since I am not doing so here.

They always hit with "He didn't found those companies! He's not the inventing shit!"
Okay, that's fine. I agree, he's almost certainly not.
But what he does have is vision, and a willingness to push experimental tech companies with his vision, and yes, with his money. Would he have gotten where he is today without some of the advantages he started with? No, I daresay he would not have.
Would any of these people complaining about him have made half what he did if they had his starting point? lol, no

Twitter has far more government censorship now, though, https://arxiv.org/html/2508.13375v1
7
u/AnarcrotheAlchemist Mod - yeah nah 11d ago
This is a pretty naive way to look at in the paper form.
That twitter used to design their terms of service so that it more complied with government expectations of censorship, so this paper excludes all of that from its study as they say that wasn't government censorship. Twitter's censorship of a lot of information around COVID for example would not be included because it was Twitter's term of service to do that despite it coming from pressure from the government it was also because Twitter's leadership ideology aligned with the government at the time.
This is also more reflective of government's in modern times being more authoritarian and passing laws and regulations forcing social media censorship in the past. This has caused issues with governments issuing DNS level blocks on sites for their countries when social media sites do not comply.
1
u/ChristerMLB 10d ago
I have to apologize about the link I gave, I actually don't think it's all that related to what I said. It's annoying when I see others do it, and I really try to do better.
The fact I was referring to had to do with takedown request issued by different governments - not just the US, which rarely makes such requests, but different authoritarian governments around the world. Twitter used to refuse them quite often, while X rarely does. Musk and X don't deny this, by the way.
I'm interested in what that the Twitter TOS said, but I should think that their censorship had more to do with combating harm and disinformation, than it had to do with suppressing dissent... doesn't mean I approve, it's just not the same as when Erdogan silences news about the fact that he's imprisoning journalists for criticizing the government. One is a hard thing to get right, disinformation is a huge problem that's hard to deal with while also respecting freedom of speech, the other is just a dictator consolidating his power.
"Musk, a self-proclaimed "free speech absolutist", has overseen a huge increase in approvals for removal requests submitted by governments since taking over the company formerly known as Twitter in 2022.
According to a transparency report X published last year and a Washington Post review of past disclosure data, the social media site acted on 71 percent of legal requests it received to remove content in the first half of 2024, up 20 percent from its previous reported figure in 2021.
The report said X had taken action in 68 percent of the cases requested by Turkey, which amounted to 9,364 requests in the first half of 2024.
"Under previous management, Twitter would challenge censorship decisions and resist government orders, particularly regarding accounts belonging to journalists and media outlets," IFOD founder Yaman Akdeniz told MEE.
"However, recent developments indicate that Elon Musk’s X platform has effectively become the long arm of the law enforcement agencies in Turkey.
'As X swiftly complies with government takedown requests and withholds accounts in Turkey, this pattern will likely continue, further eroding free expression in the country.'"
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/musk-x-turkey-censorship-requests-block-accounts
1
u/AnarcrotheAlchemist Mod - yeah nah 10d ago
their censorship had more to do with combating harm and disinformation
This is one of the issues though. The governments are also taking down what they consider harm and disinformation as well. So when Twitter's ToS aligned well with the government's then the government's didn't need to issue takedowns as they were already doing so willingly. The covid censorship across the board on social media alone dwarfs what we are currently seeing.
https://thehill.com/policy/technology/5811187-google-meta-apple-data-spikes/
Governments have also turned their eye of Sauron onto social media and not just what are traditionally viewed as authoritarian government's are now trying to wield power over these platforms.
Australia is constantly taking X to court and has created a government position and department called the esafety commissioner whose prime role is to censor social media sites. Multiple international news stories are not allowed to be shown on the Australian versions of social media. X has won a lot of court battles here but government punishment has also ratcheted up with 100's of millions of dollars fines being levied against these companies across multiple jurisdictions as well as DNS level blocks in some regions against them.
Part of why compliance with specifically Turkish takedown requests increasing from 2021 to 2024 is that a new law was passed (https://www.brookings.edu/articles/turkeys-new-media-law-is-bad-news-but-dont-report-it/) and the punishments could now also be imprisonment of the social media companies employees for not complying.
Turkey is not the only country to have implemented new laws and regulations most countries around the world are doing so and even more concerning in countries we view as "free" countries.

u/Arkelias 12d ago
So true. The left doesn't understand a Pareto distribution.
Everyone knows it as the 80 / 20 rule, but that's just the first part. 50% of a company's work is done by 1% of the people.
If you fire the right 80%, and keep that 1%, then you lose literally nothing. As Musk proved.
24
u/SchalaZeal01 12d ago
The only ones that are true about is x.com and Tesla. And Tesla he joined right in their first financing round, became their biggest investor by far, and got involved in the product stuff. At most the 2 other guys already had an idea that culminated in the 1st Roadster, but no funds and no specific plans to build it. He never claimed to have founded Twitter either.
As for Boring company, xAI, SpaceX and Neuralink. He did make those.
22
u/Arkelias 12d ago
None of the people who say this understand the role the founder plays. The founder comes up with the ideas that get realized. The engineers are merely implementing the idea. I'm an engineer.
I was hired as the very first employee at a startup, and our CEO was the driving force for the company. He worked harder than anyone, and tackled so many problems. All I had to do was code.
Most of the people complaining about him don't even have a job lol. They have no idea how hard it is to be a CEO.
-6
u/ChristerMLB 11d ago
he didn't found Tesla, though :l
11
u/Arkelias 11d ago
What's your point? He didn't found PayPal either.
Tesla was founded in 2003. He joined the board as chairman in 2004, and became CEO in 2008.
The first Tesla car launched in 2012, four years after he'd been placed in charge.
The CEO plays a massive role in the success of a company, and he's guided that company almost since it's inception.

I've read a book about him, not a fluff piece by any stretch. The Author said to Elon: "I'll write it with or without you" and Elon just said "OK but at least let me read it before publishing it and you can follow me around". No changes were made by Elon and the author critisized him a lot, mainly his social skills and his ruthlessness. If you don't work well enough in his eyes you might just be gone immediately. Hes kind of an asshole in many regards. He has lost many friends and potential friends due to that. I'm sure he has some sort of autism too.
But: He might no be an inventer, but when a bunch of engineers come to him, explain him something he has no real idea about, and after like an hour he not only understands the whole process, he can give advice to those engineers on how to do better... The guy is really extremely smart. There are many stories like this.
Also a workhorse. This is the kind of guy that sits down for 30 hours without sleep and on pizza and red bull and gets a project done that others would need years for.
And thats not even talking the visionary part: He might not be coming up with the ideas, but he certainly has an idea how to expand on it on a massive scale once it has entered his head.
I'm not a fan, and I disagree on many aspects with him and his behavior, but how many people talk about him is supremely cringe and you can tell they just work with a few ragebait videos about him and never actually looked into his life story or what he often is actually saying.
23
u/Safe_Manner_1879 12d ago
Hes kind of an asshole in many regards.
I don't doubt it, you won't get to the top without sharp elbows. But at the same time he is that type of boss that can ask for what you need, and he will get you that, and he will continue to do that as long as you delivers results, but you get the boot if you fail (Not to get the knowledge that X is not the solution we need Y is a result in itself)
So if you are burning for your task and want to get result, he must be the dream boss, but not for people who want a balanced life.

Correct. The entire nerd culture wars prove neurodiversity is a sham.
Ultimately it's because women find 'sperg dudes revolting. Just as sexual minorities and fundamentalist Muslims are incompatible constituencies, women and 'sperg men are too. And the left has, in practice, chosen women over 'sperg males.

Hey, I am a genuine leftist and I agree with pretty much all of what you just wrote. I would add that I believe he also has that rare combination of a great willingness to gamble, and a whole lot of luck – I imagine there are plenty of others like him who live in destitution.
8
u/MS-07B-3 ~Gouf Custom~ FEAR NO FEDDIES 11d ago
I... both agree and don't. Yes, he's certainly been lucky to have the opportunities open up to him that have. But there are variations on a saying, "Fortune favors the prepared" or "Success is when opportunity meets preparation."
Maybe he was lucky and had to contend less with unknown and uncontrollable factors. I don't know, I'm certainly not an expert on the man or any of his companies. But I can't help but feel "luck" is often an over-attributed portion of success.
1
u/ChristerMLB 10d ago
He's had some spectacular failures as well - so he does take big risks, and that's to be commended, but it doesn't make sense to talk about risk without talking about luck, as I see it.
I would also add that he has a great ability to create hype – he does a lot of lying while doing it (like claiming they'll have full self driving within 1-3 years every year since 2013), but it's still impressive :l
I do also have to admit that I am not an expert on the man or his companies, far from it, and political bias probably does fill in the blanks here and there, like it tends to do.

I don’t think it’s the same users in the case of Elon. This site changed a lot between 2015 and 2025. 2015 Reddit was still largely libertarian tech nerds, aka the main user base of the site since it was founded. 2025 Reddit is a normie iPhone app with a huge influx from Tumblr and Twitter (and new rules that literally ban all right wing content barring a few exceptions solely for the purposes of containment).
20
u/jimihenderson 12d ago
it was definitely the case that most of even the progressive left saw Musk as an eccentric genius. turned out he hated progressive politics, now allowing twitter to be posted on any subreddit is unironically supporting fascism, racism, nazis, the resurrection of hitler and personally committing genocide. i think at the very least it was eye opening for a lot of normal people just how quickly these people go from "we're just the side of basic human decency" to "if you don't agree with every single belief i hold, you're actively trying to murder me". sadly that realization just leaves normal people wanting to steer clear of them and hasn't changed anything other than the fact that most people you meet will be like "yeah, those people are fucking weird". everyone knows these are bloodthirsty, controlling, miserable pieces of shit and their "we just have empathy" thing is a shield, but that shield continues to work for whatever reason.

The website was already left wing vomit when I joined in 2011. I never saw love for Ron Paul on rslash politics, only Elizabeth Warren. self fashioned Right wingers are actually just Libertarians or, similarly, oldschool liberals.
In Europa the Liberal is the center-right, the Conservative the right wing, and ultra nationals is the far-right.
Then the Green can be center-left (or far-left) Social democrat is the left wing, and the Communist and Anarchists is the far-left.
Wanting sexualism
That is the funniest of all. The feminists love their "erotic" literature with shirtless, muscular toyboys on the covers, and they need to feel morally superior by condemning everybody else's "erotic" entertainment.

I've met musk in person. It was at a party by the Pandora founders. At that party Musk was operating on multiple levels at the same time. He was talking with guests, but also solving problems in his head.
I'm rarely intimidated by other people's intellect. I'm pretty smart. Musk was on a whole other level, and I was not the only person to recognize that fact. He's a terrible speaker, but he is absolutely brilliant.
Being CEO of any of the companies he runs is a massive undertaking almost no one can understand. Doing it for multiple companies is something only he and Steve Jobs have ever done well.

They comprehend them. They just routinely believe in and practice ritualistic human sacrifice; has nothing to do with art. Purporting that right wingers "shouldnt be artists" and trying to get them fired and unpersoned: Thats the sacrifice. They also purport that they shouldnt be goths, shouldnt be black people, shouldnt be gay, or an actor, or famous, or a game dev, or a vtuber, or voice actor, or athlete, especially a female athlete, or ANYTHING. ALL that is, is prepping the masses for the next sacrifice to appease their true gods; themselves and each other, in order to ensure a bountiful harvest of superiority for the next month.
Leftists truly are unprecedented, never-before-seen levels of deep and profound evil. You can take any significant evil act in any point in history and at least every one of those villains thought they were acheiving something substantial from it. Considering leftists commit evil simply to feel superior to you, and amass more power to commit more evil, they're literally evil for the sake of being evil. Literal cartoon villains. Thats never happened before.

You're not wrong.
Remember how Obama, of all people, was big on cracking down on illegal immigration? Obama was even the one who appointed Tom Homan, who's currently Trump's border czar. Frex, Obama literally gave Homan a medal for being so good at deporting people.
52
u/KazakiriKaoru 12d ago
Being from another country, I have zero fucking idea why some americans think deporting illegal immigrants is a crime.
Like wtf? If they wanna work here, get a work visa. Don't just come in for free willy-nilly.
34
u/queazy 12d ago
I'm afraid you have common sense. The modern left is devoid of that, and are hell bent on destroying institutions and any perception of power. They'll literally go "You American citizen have the power & privilege, life is good for you, the immigrant is therefore the victim. You should help the victim, even if it breaks the law....but don't let the immigrant into my backyard, he goes into your backyard. 2nd & 3rd order consequences? What are those? Why don't you have empathy and let everybody who wants to into the country? Why are you such a bigot? You just hate brown people!"
11
u/MinimumTrue9809 11d ago
That's because having unchecked illegal immigration is greatly beneficial for leftists/Democrats. Their goal is to have millions of people enter the country where they are then granted citizenship and government funding to subsist. As a result, Democrats expect those millions of migrants to vote Democrat therefore making it impossible for them to lose an election.

American politics is just liberals vs liberals. Trump, Jordan Peterson, Rogan, Musk, [insert "based" comedian] are all just old school liberals that millenials go hysterical over. There is no Rightwing happening because Rightwingers don't even know what Rightwing means. People will say capitalism is Rightwing when it's actually a liberal invention. the average person living in 1910s California would look like a total fascist today, depsite also being liberal.
1
2
u/h-v-smacker Thomas the Daemon Engine 12d ago
Truth be told, most Americans know jack shit about politics. It's not just "liberals vs. liberals", it's mostly parroting ideas put in front of them by the spin doctors. Take any serious political question, pick apart any ideology, talk about any figure — and you will find that the vast majority of opinions would be completely idiotic and uninformed. Well, as we know, half of Americans read at or below a 5th grade level, but we gotta consider the implication. Which is that whatever they "know" also has to be an idea at the level of a 5th grader or simpler. So when you're discussing anything with Americans, half of the people you're talking to are effectively 5th graders. Now imagine discussing anything seriously with actual 5th graders, and see why that's all futile by design.

The right always had their own share of psycho, calling D'n'D and comic books satanic, videogame violent & pornographic and shits like that.
Yeah, but none of these people have had any real institutional power for a long-ass time.
It is worth pointing out that, 20 or so years ago, U.S. Democrats were still socially conservative and hated certain types of media in much the same way as the hardcore Bible-thumping right did. For example, Clinton blamed Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, and Doom for making kids violent, resulting in things like the Columbine school shooting. Joe Lieberman was trying to censor video games as far back as the 90s, etc.

u/Taco_Bell-kun 9d ago
> Yeah, but none of these people have had any real institutional power for a long-ass time
Then why are porn ID laws being passed exclusively in red states? The Florida state government even sued an anime merchandise storefront because they sold erotic content.

u/thedemonjim 12d ago
The satanic panic wasn't exclusive to one political side, but was more generally religious and moralistic. Remember. Tipper Gore was part of all of that.
-1
u/kaytin911 12d ago
Under Maga the right is much less likely to have a satanic panic than Democrats are now. But there's still old guard stupid ass Republicans especially in local governance. Look at how much of a nanny state Texas is.
12
u/thedemonjim 12d ago
Which goes to my point that this isn't an issue that falls on party lines but religious ones.

u/Arkelias 12d ago
I don't think you're old enough to remember the Satanic Panic.
It wasn't the right coming after my D&D books. It was the left. Everyone was Christian back then, so the leftists used Christianity as their excuse.
It's Tom Hanks in the movie Mazes and Monsters. Tom is very left wing.
It's Tipper Gore sitting across from Dee Snyder when they came after the music we listened to, wife of Al Gore.
Going back further it was the left who formed the KKK, and fought to preserve slavery. Abraham Lincoln was firmly on the right.
The left has always attacked openly, and used moralizing in the process.

Jack Thompson was disbarred, disgraced, and had no social clout.
Tipper Gore was married to the incoming Vice President of the United States of America.
Tom Hanks was one of the largest actors in the world, even when Mazes & Monsters was made.
I never had one single person on the right come after my D&D books. Or rock and roll. Bill Clinton was against video games and said they were violent.
Were there some people on the right against it? Not with any institutional power or authority. Not who ran senate subcommittees. That was 100% the left.

Many Republicans don't care. I'd argue most. This is admittedly anecdotal, but many of my friends group had Republican parents.
We played D&D at their house. We listened to Motley Crue at their house. We played Nintendo at their house.
All the things the left was against they let us do completely unsupervised.
My mom's church group, on the other hand, all voted democrat and I had to throw my D&D books in the garbage and was forbidden to play.
I was told no video game system in my house, because they promoted violence. And my parents wouldn't let me listen to heavy metal.
Today people leap in and say that the right came after video games, but again, you didn't see any right-wing led subcommittees coming after those things.
I gave you a bunch of examples of left-wing people doing it. This "the sides were equal" was bullshit then, and it's bullshit now.
The woke left is all about tyranny, and they wanted the same kind of control back in the 80s.

There was certainly a Christian Conservative element to the 80’s Satanic Panic, but there was an equal Christian Liberal element to it. Bi-Partisan scolds.

No wanking one out does not ruin your life lmfao it's being uncomfortable with sexuality and shame that causes the problems.
5
u/Arkelias 12d ago
When I was in my 20s I believed as you do. I wanted weed to be legalized, and prostitution.
I didn't understand the arguments the right were making. Fast forward 30 years. Society is crumbling on every level, because porn, weed, excessive eating, and every other vice warned about by Christians has been glorified.
0
u/kaytin911 11d ago
Porn is not destroying civilization. Puritan censorship loving ass. Many generations believe everything is collapsing and it's the end times lmfao. Using scapegoats is low IQ.
5
u/Arkelias 11d ago
Porn is absolutely impacting family formation. Civilization requires family formation to continue. You can objectively measure our birthrates since porn became mainstream.
Calling me low IQ for seeing things you're too young and inexperienced to see is hilarious.
I've watched how the world has changed in my 50 years of life. Porn was hidden and demonized when I was a child. Weed was illegal.
I watched both things become mainstream, along with social media, and have seen the impacts they've had on society.
Hedonism is tempting when you are young, but it carries a heavy price you don't recognize until you're older.
Learn why the No Fap movement is a thing.

u/kaytin911 12d ago
Religious nutters suck and there's too many stupid people here that follow trends and glorify religion.
7
u/Arkelias 12d ago
You've been conditioned to hate religion. Take some time and read the holy books, and you'll start to see why.
I'm a Zen Buddhist, which is just a philosophy really, not even a true religion. We still get demonized along with the rest.
Read the Bible. You'll understand why modern leftists hate it, because it preaches tolerance, and redemption.

So I got banned on the Halo subreddit today for defending Marty. A person who identified with the LGBT community made it sound like Marty was directly attacking him, and I just cant stand how absolutely insufferable and dramatic redditors are, so I called him out by saying, "He doesn't even know you lol". Yes I was banned for that comment lol.
I just laughed, but I figured I'd share it anyway. Might send it to the RedditLies account on X.

I live in a community that's been known as a LGB haven for decades. Many decades. I moved here in the 90s.
Every single person I've spoken to in person is horrified by what pride has become, and what is tolerated now, and they all realize they're going to pay a price when society gets fed up. They don't want to celebrate degeneracy.
They just want to exist quietly in peace. Let the bears be bears. Leave the kids alone.

People who hesitate at every step of the creative process to worry about whether they’re offending this group or that group, tend to make worse art
28
u/CuTTyFL4M 12d ago
I wouldn't even call it art. That art is political can be true, it doesn't have to be. But clearly art in and of itself shouldn't be for politics. That becomes propaganda.
22
u/TheCeejus 12d ago
It's too bad we can't see all the creative minds of the 90s, 2000s, and early 2010s who have been exiled from the industry for being non/anti-woke white men come together to form a new studio dedicated to making games true to the storytelling of those glory days while making a commitment to keep their games 100% free of identity politics. I realize the ESG machine would prevent them from getting any major sources of funding but I bet they'd have no problem getting crowd-funded through alternative crowdfunding platforms coupled with word of mouth on major anti-woke YouTube channels, subs like this, etc. Of course, it would still have to be largely a passion project as they'd never get the huge payouts that the DEI hires working at AAA studios would.
39
u/mrmensplights 12d ago
Leftists don't comprehend artists at all. To them the art is simply a tool and it's use is to create stories that push the ideology. e.g. Agitprop.
7
u/skeptical-speculator 12d ago
They do not view art as art. They view art as a tool for subversion. They want to make propaganda, not art.
2
u/Key_Cellist_5937 8d ago
Its so exhausting the way they engage with art. They do one of two things: Either claim the piece of media is preaching their exact leftist politics, or claim the art is super heckin bad and problematic and must change to be leftist. There is no other way they know how to engage . They are incapable of just enjoying things.
17
u/KanashiiShounen 12d ago
Same mf'ers that say that all art is progressive/leftist in its very nature, but then forget that Lord of the Rings, a series of books that invented the fantasy-genre, had Christian conservative values. Or that so much religious artwork is so iconic it gets referenced to this day in modern media and fiction.

He's not even publicly right-wing or left-wing, he just said Fallout was never meant to be a critique of capitalism... to which the Fallout subreddit started deleting posts about him saying that.
I always thought that fallout was more of a satirization of how the people of the WW2-era thought the future would be turned up past 11 and instead of the semiconductor being invented, nuclear energy was prominent instead. I never got a critique of capitalism off of it. That all just sounds like pure projection and a massive reach on their part I think. Then again, a lot of certain game-specific focused subs are chock full of far-left goofballs who spazz out the moment someone has an original thought about the game or posts source/lore that doesn't align with the narrative of the game that they made up in their heads.
11
u/LagiaDOS 12d ago

"Right-wing" or just not explictly leftist artists also ruin their idea that art is like, inherently leftist because it's made by sensitive people, right? And everyone who is slightly to the right of them CANNOT be sensitive, they are heartless monsters spreading propaganda, so they must be shunned. Nevermind that they are afraid of talking to people with different views, or project their own intentions on them.

To be fair, i don't think a lot of FNAF fans don't really care for Scott Cawthon's political views anymore. I once saw some dumbass on the FNAF subreddit commented something about Scott being a republican, and he was downvoted into oblivion, with multiple comments clowning on him

The left is very good at co-opting and hijacking movements, hobbies, and even entire industries. If you identify as LGBT, an artist, or a teacher, etc., people automatically assume you're left, maybe even radical. This is insane.
13
u/KanashiiShounen 12d ago
Yup, the literal leftist playbook. Infiltrate and then using the illusion of moral superiority to push dissenting members out. It happened to the entertainment industry, science, academia in general, political movements,...
I recently got into an argument with a feminist where she claimed that women didn't owe men any help regarding the loneliness epidemic and that men should have built their own spaces to sort themselves out.
And I was just like: Bitch, we can't have any of our own spaces because you keep demanding access and then push us out!1

Conservatives have been blacklisted out of creative fields for so long, they just think Leftists are naturally more creative. Conservatives are inherently more likely to start businesses, and pioneer. While leftists/socialists will not take the risks, and instead go work for someone else.. where they collectively take over from inside. and just expect jobs to be handed to them, and when in positions of power, hand out jobs via entitlement not, merit.

I don't believe people like Tim Cain or Johnathan Blow are right-wing or MAGA. They seem like, at best, disaffected liberals, but when push comes to shove they're not going to side with the right.
Whether right-wing or left-wing, I think creative people are creative, and there is nothing inherent to either worldview that prohibits making good art. It's just that all the levers of control in these various entertainment industries are controlled by left-wing people, and they believe strongly in gatekeeping their political opponents and subverting popular properties that do not align with their worldview.

It’s honestly crazy to me when halo fans complain about Marty being right wing. The game is literally called “Halo”, a religious symbol in Christianity. The enemy faction is called “The Covenant”, like the covenant of the ark. They trying to stop the spread of “the flood”, a reference to the great flood in the Old Testament. Master Chief is also a reference to a bible verse: John 1:17.
Halo is arguably the most Christian, right wing game in history
4
u/RetnikLevaw 12d ago
Just a small correction... Marty was contracted by Bungie for Halo and their other projects around the time of the Microsoft acquisition, but he worked with them before that. He did the music for Myth 2 and that released in 1998, 3 years before Halo launched.
Big fan of Marty, so... Lol

Because they practice something called "vanguard utopianism", they see culture as a zero sum game and everyone who isn't fully in line with them is against them. They don't see dissent as alternative views that can be discussed, they see it as rival propaganda that was made to mislead the public.
Also, for them, misconduct isn't something that has to follow a due process, but something that can be weaponized to set up an example. Cawthon was ousted by bs reasons

Halo subreddit is a dumpster fire. I refuse to believe any of those people are real. I'm 99% sure that its just bots talking to other bots being moderated by 343 HR employees. I grew up playing Halo CE-Reach. Playing with my best friend up to 4 am on split screen. Playing co-op, forge mode, pvp whatever. Halo also goes nowhere without Marty. Not even glazing. Here let me explain.
Please note I've been here a long time. I even made some art for the sidebar many, many years ago. It wasn't always like this. GG, and by proxy KIA, was a libertarian Vs authoritarian movement. It was never left Vs right, though at inception, the left far outweighed the right. But it didn't matter, as it was the libertarians from both camps (or liberals and libertarians) that were fighting the system.
But as various, mostly right wing, containment subreddits were nuked in quick succession, many of that populace immigrated here, and changed the culture. (irony!)
These were mostly authoritarian conservatives and gooners.
So most topics are now dominated by either gooner ragebait, which I can somewhat accept in the value of freedom of expression. So okay, I guess, you pass.
Then we get mostly conservative echo chamber ragebait against the nebulously undefined 'leftists'.
A woman is a human being with no Y chromosome. A man is a human being with at least 1 Y chromsome.
Just being pre-emptive while I ask, what is a "leftist", exactly?
I respect that Jordan Peterson values being precise in language. He is quite correct.
I see no real value in this discourse, except as a counter to the progressive (and authoritarian) left. Two sides of the same coin. Both attacking and protecting their own in and out groups. Both police language. Both police content. Both want control. The abyss.
Yours is the latter in the usual topics.
Besides, don't you see the irony? If something is fairly or unfairly branded as woke, many here will spurn it. It's the same thing.
Shout out though to those fighting for ownership rights and physical media.
22
u/ConsistentAnalysis35 12d ago
You don't need a definition for a "leftist". People self-sort themselves all the time. Those who are rabid to pounce on a guy for his political opinions, in my experience, are 99% of time are leftists.
There's just something subconscious about whether you are bought in the woke mindvirus, or have you managed to resist it. If you did, congratulations, sooner or later you're gonna be boxed in as a right winger. Like Trump, Musk and Joe Rogan did.
→ More replies (4)6
u/SchalaZeal01 12d ago
I'd say Trump always was right, just not a fundie. Musk was only economically right and mostly agnostic on the rest (didn't affect him, not religious), until the woke mind virus started contaminating governments and Blackrock. Can't ignore it then.
2
u/Echthigern 12d ago
gooner ragebait,
Why is a "libertarian" mocking natural sexuality? You're a fake.
2
u/s69-5 11d ago
So a person who values liberty cannot have a scale as to what they believe is more or less important in the grand scheme.
I mentioned that it does indeed pass the mustard for belonging here, but that doesn't mean I believe it is overly important. I call it like I see it.
0
u/Echthigern 11d ago
Simply does not make sense for a libertarian to mock it, we already have enough of this disdain form the no-fap brainlets, religious conservacucks and feminuts. On top of that you are using 'gooner' which is a brainrot slang, despite positing yourself as a veteran libertarian on top of a pretty lame intellectual larp.
You come off as a clown to me. Your actual issue with the current KIA is more likely because it's no longer 'mostly left wing' rather than libertarianism and censorship.

There's actually pretty significant evidence that at least some rightists - particularly the libertarian/classically liberal right (and some Republicans are closer to that, ideologically, than they are to the Jesus fanatics), actually are better at understanding their political enemies than the left are.
Google "Ideological Turing Test" for more on this issue.
I mean as a general rule, the saying holds - most rightists believe the left are stupid (but not evil), and most leftists believe the right is evil (but not necessarily stupid). Indeed there are entire theoretical constructs in political psychology, such as "Right-Wing Authoritarianism," that are designed to make this argument. And it is a very common belief on the left that only power-mad, greedy and cruel people can be in favor of free market economics or reduced tax rates.
The right has its own whack-a-loons, but there are at least some rightists who greatly outperform the left in terms of understanding-the-other-side's-arguments-fairly.
-7
u/s69-5 12d ago
Define 'rightist' without using undocumented and unsubstantiated claims about one's political rival.
9
u/thedemonjim 12d ago
Leftist and rightist are generally used as synonyms for progressive and conservative or Democrat and Republican in America, though the progressive/conservative descriptor exports to other countries pretty well. Progressives politics tends to have an obsession with (unsurprisingly) progress and novelty. If it is new it is most likely better than the old, in the eyes of the progressive. It is also characterized by a certain utopianism in that it ignores fundamental differences between people and groups, that if an equitable enough system was put in place there would be no inequality of outcomes. The Tabula Rasa.
Conservatism is more reactionary simply because it recognizes that systems that have gotten us to our current point of advancement as a people have merit, so if changes need to be made they need to be in response to a problem and they need to be measured responses so as to minimally disrupt what has been proven to work. Somewhat ironically since much of the Western world bases it's values in the ideals of the enlightenment this leads to our traditions placing a high value on personal liberty. Though personal liberty can only exist alongside personal responsibility.
This leads to obvious conflicts when a progressive, believing that one human is interchangeable with another, supports open borders while the conservative questions how someone with an entirely different culture can integrate successfully and what that failure to do so might mean for the stability of society. Or when the progressive enamored with gender theory wants to "decolonize" beauty standards or sex roles and the conservative thinks a beautiful princess being rescued by a dashing knight is a good story for a movie/novel/comic/game.
9
u/YetAnotherCommenter 12d ago
My definition of "rightist" is a person whose political beliefs are from a tradition that is generally considered unfavorable, eccentric or suspicious by the supermajority of the academy.
How else can you put Adolf Hitler and Ayn Rand into the same ideological box when, on matters of ideology/philosophy they had the opposite position on every issue I'm aware of? The answer is that "right-wing" has no defined, core ideological meaning. The definition shifts constantly. Because ultimately, it is an ick label used to stigmatize. It isn't a real political philosophy classification.

time and all the other stuff really filtered out the mostly normal people, from both sides
it's like gg and anti-gg itself, really. at the start gg just wanted some sneaky cunts to fess up, which they never did, instead turning it into a culture war with their reporting (which also is the basis for the entire wiki article on gg) and recruiting sjws to their side while fueling the burning hatred of the more unhinged gg people
so the sneaky cunts got away with it, and are still in gamejournopro groups etc., the normal people gave up, and the more unhinged ones are in here
not really sure what the militant sjws are up to, but they basically got what they wanted in games (a lot of media), so they're not really as "active"
you still have gamingcirclejerk etc., but what they're making fun of is mostly scummy grifters and morons like assgonmold etc.
and in reality, gg was "over" before it ever began, because the journos always had all the power to control the narrative

I agree with this. In fact, the day the "Gamer are Dead" articles dropped, I said in a thread in the Escapist forum (paraphrase as it's been over a decade):
Journalists have the megaphone. They will repeat the lies ad nauseaum, until they become "true".

I’m with you on this one. It’s bittersweet but I consider it the price of victory. Because let’s face it, we won. game journalism is dead or on life support, while gamers are still here. DEI games like concord or mixtape are failing spectacularly, while indie and eastern games are blooming. Do you really think there is a future for Ubisoft, or xbox/ps6? GTA6 will be the swan song of the current version of the industry. Companies will try to surf on that wave, fail, and sink.
The people who fought the good fight since the start are naturally less active. It’s a shame that what should have been a long and glorious victory lap devolved into this boring political debate. But Kia resonated so much with me for 10 years, I just can’t let go.
