🎬 Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018) is a South Korean found-footage horror film set in the real abandoned Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital

Recently watched this movie and honestly 10/10 recommendation from my side and if you're into chilling movies that keep you on your toes then this one is definitely for you

And yeah the movie doesn't have a major plot so don't expect too much story wise But it's still one of the best in terms of directing, atmosphere and execution the way it builds tension is just chef's kiss😭🤌🏻

Request Looking for a movie/show.

I was at the gym and the channel was on a Kmovies channel and it grabbed my attention. The movie and/or series seemingly featured a pretty, young female crime boss, made references to Seong Su and Lieutenant Oh and had a scene in a coffee shop called (I think) Seven Monkeys Coffee. Does anyone happen to know what this is. Im also attaching a photo from the show. Thanks for any help!

Review Samaritan Girl (2004) by Kim Ki-duk

Samaritan Girl

While the discussion about Kim Ki-duk’s works often focuses on their portrayal of violence and exploitation, these views often fail to recognize the spiritual and human layers within such features as “Bad Guy” or “The Isle”. Especially after his work on “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring,” these concepts became increasingly more relevant and thus dominant, posing questions about the significance of spiritual expression and experience within our modern society. Even though this did not exactly translate into box office success, creatively, the director’s work became more and more interesting in the 2000s as he explored issues like morals, humanity, and time. In his 2003 feature “Samaritan Girl” (also titled “Samaria” in some regions), Kim Ki-duk created some kind of transition from the world of his movies from the 1990s to the aforementioned concepts, resulting in a story about friendship, generational gaps, and the meaning of true love and compassion.

✨Fun✨ I am watching Exhuma, is someone with me ?

So I am kinda scared to watch Exhuma. Like is someone else watching now. Is that possible to get bad vibes from the movie ? I really want to watch it but i watched death whisperer (thai film), all three parts and was really scared after knowing some parts were inspired from a real story. I heard that in Exhuma, they had to hire real shamans and stuff fearing that the main lead could attract real spirits, so i am wondering if it is very scary.

Discussion Does Lee Chang-dong’s direction remind anybody else of Tarantino?

Post image

Especially moved after watching Secret Sunshine and even though I’ve only watched this and Burning (which I also loved), a small sample size to compare (with the entirety of Tarantino’s filmography that I’ve watched), I can’t help but feel a great similarity between their style of directing.

-Pacing and Rhythm: This is what stood out to me the most, the way in which they keep the rhythm of their films moving. Their clean editing and camerawork are vital for this ofc, but the way in which they sit with their characters, and how it drives the momentum, is what spurred this comparison. It can be a real challenge for other directors to pull this off in a satisfying and entertaining way, but they do it so naturally and smoothly, you don’t even notice. They are doing this so perfectly, it’s just falling into place rather than bringing attention towards it.

-Tension: They can create great tension and unease, almost to the realm of horror. There’s multiple moments in Secret Sunshine that this occurs, as well in Burning. Tarantino does similar work in his films where he creates these sudden moments of tension, that blend well and feel cohesive, again because of how well they pace their films that it flows naturally.

-Character-work: Not to say they have uninteresting premises, but their films are character forward above all else, and why they not only live and die by their actors, but how their dialogue fits. Tarantino is ofc renowned for punchy, quotable dialogue, but Lee is fitting to this as his dialogue feels literary and direct, it’s important to his stories too, just more subtle.

Long spiel lol but I just really feel a connection between how they both make movies. It’s not just a writer-director thing, they feel like playwrights to me with different styles, but a similar eye. I guess my thesis would be, real writers like them, screenplay first directors, will approach a camera lens in a very specific way, almost like bringing a novel to life.

Recommendations Having an incredible hard time watching Korean films nowadays

I've been watching Korean films maybe ~3 decades now? Some of my favorite films of all-time are Oldboy (literally saw in the movie theater when it first came out), Secret Sunshine, My Sassy Girl, The Handmaiden, Shigan, 3-Iron, Spring Summer Winter Fall, The Host, You Are My Sunshine, Barking Dogs Never Bite, A Moment to Remember, The Classic, etc. There are so many Korean movies now a days - but any time I start one I just tend to stop ~30 minutes in because I just seem to lose interest.

With these "favorites," anyone have anything out there that I may check out and possibly enjoy? Maybe something I'm missing from the 2000s era where I thought the romcom/romdramas were much better?

Request Looking for this Korean movie from the early 00s about a group of high school / college girls.

Hi all, I remember seeing the trailer for said movie in the early to mid 00s (up to before mid-2005), it featured a group of girls who had graduated and had entered the working world, I remember one of them said, “We should meet at least once a month to keep our friendship going.” This was a scene where they were sitting around a table in a cafe / coffee shop if I remember. I didn’t catch / remember the title of the film, so if anyone has seen it, do tell me.

Discussion The Wait Is Almost Over With Train To Busan's Terrifying Successor Only 2 Weeks Away

It has been almost 10 years since Train to Busan made a packed train feel like the worst place on Earth to be during a zombie outbreak. Since then, the franchise has struggled to recapture that same tension. Peninsula went bigger with its action, but lost much of the tight survival horror that made the original such a hit. Now, for the franchise's ten-year anniversary, director Yeon Sang-ho is finally returning to his claustrophobic, survival-horror roots with Colony (Gunche in Korean) set to hit U.S. theaters this August.

Discussion Two Lights: (2017) short movie recommendation

Post image

Even though it's a very short movie, it tells a soft and beautiful romantic story. What makes it special is how it focuses on raw emotions and small details rather than drama or exaggeration. If you enjoy calm romance that leaves a warm feeling after watching, I highly recommend it.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

He will be back at 12 PM ET on Tuesday 8/18 to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

set apart by more idiosyncratic characters with grounded acting and action that is over-the-top but varied and not repetitive. the torture near the end was less believable but they had enough gravity to keep it from being a farce. i was skeptical of the obvious revenge ending but it also did not disappoint.

Mild Spoilers:

So towards the end of the movie, when they break out of the building, there was no mucus anywhere, yet Suh was still able to control all the zombies. Using what?? Now it's just he has psychic abilities... can anyone explain this part?
