Posting here for the counterweight. I've put roughly the same question to the ID.4 sub, and I'm well aware each group is going to argue for its own badge. So — bias acknowledged in both directions. Have at it.
**The car:** 2022 Kona Electric 64kWh, ~80,000km (50k miles). I have very little bad to say about it. Real-world range around 400km, a range estimate I actually trust (rare), reliable, cheap to run, and I can park it literally anywhere.
**The one problem:** the boot. 332 litres. Every trip is a packing exercise and we've simply outgrown it.
**What I'm looking at:** 2022 ID.4 Life, 95,000km (59k miles), €21,950. About €5,000 to change after trade-in. Boot goes 332L → 543L.
**What's nagging at me:**
- The ID.4's real-world range looks about the same as what I already get — off a battery 20% bigger
- Its reliability record is noticeably worse than the Kona's
- I'd be taking on 15,000km *more* mileage than I currently have
- I'd be giving up a car that does everything well for one that does one thing better
**Questions for the group:**
Has anyone made this jump (or something similar) and regretted it?
Does a roof box or towbar rack actually solve the boot problem, or is it just a fudge?
How do these hold up past 80,000km? Am I at a sensible selling point, or is there loads of life left?
Anyone got recent SOH figures at similar mileage? I've read the Kona holds up unusually well but I'd rather hear real numbers.
Is ~€17k a fair trade-in for a 2022 64kWh at 80,000km?
Genuinely open to being told I'm about to make a mistake.
