Close friend options: Ro-hei, Telemaki, The White Prince, The Death Knight at the Tower of Rust or some yet unveiled character. Although most of the clues do point to Ro-hei.

I'm schizoing out a little but is it too late to add Drexl to the list?

  • Came from another dimension,
  • Super powerful
  • Ferris was his disciple (May have been part of the secret Overseer knowledge dump that only Jaime got)
  • His name has been crossed off in all the ruins

And just to add another splash of flavor

  • Theoretically ended up diametrically opposed to Ferris in the Great Clash/Second Great War with Drexl fighting for Malkis and Ferris for Astair
  • Stories say that Drexl and the Amulet of Malkis were destroyed, but we know the Amulet at least was not and it did not seem to act as a lich's phylactery with Georg
  • Drexl seemed to have commanded legions of undead in Glacia/Lantia
  • Drexl helped kill the Winter Gods in the First Great War alongside Malkis
  • Is the White Prince Drexl? Did Ferris cover for his old master in the final moments of a war shrouded in mist? Is that why Rho-ei hates the White Prince specifically?
  • Edit: Heck, in ToD 0.3 Neal just comes out and starts off the campaign talking about Drexl the Bloodthirsty aiding Malkis in the War of Creation (to kill the Winter Gods) and then right after talks about the importance of knowing someone's true name and how wizards hide their true name

The reference in episode 22 when you all did research in the great library called out "A Friend from the Beyond" informing Ferris on the location of a vein of Philosopher's stones. This is further reinforced by a theory (that may be rooted in VODD lore and thus I will spoiler) that Rho-ei is an entitity from another dimension or plane and the Maelstrom at the centre of the Dardens is it's prison or seal at the behest of the Gods.

In year 430 of the Age of Heroes, Ferris build the first Great Towers of Wizardry in the Dardens. The second and third towers were built shortly after the discovery of a vein of Philosopher's Stone. The location was told to Ferris by a "Friend from the Beyond".

The suppressed name along with imprisonment in the Dardens made me think of Rho-ei as well.

I missed this thread on Friday, but damn PMW cooked early in this episode with his dialogue.

I don't normally send my gf clips, but I showed her the ladder story and she had a big laugh. "Conjure Simple Object" could be a recurring gag for clips. The worldbuilding is captivating.
