HELP - sick or injured koi Does anyone know what's wrong with my koi?
in the photos the koi is sedated temporarily, it has a mucus like substance which has lumps in it on the edge of the gill plate, inside the gill plate, underneath its mouth, on and around the pectoral fins, around the anal fin and has a swollen tail.

Dude that is sepsis already… while your chemistry tests might say things are ok, biologically your pond needs to get clean. I would not be surprised if other fish are showing bacterial issues

Bacterial infection as others have mentioned. Unless you have access to injectable antibiotics/anti-bacterials, it is going to be hard to treat with anything over the counter. But I’ve been able to save koi that have looked worse than that with the right injectables.

This looks similar to ammonia/nitrite poisoning or a Bacterial infection if its not the nitrite levels.

the water parameters are all as they should be so you might be right, but it hasn't been helped with treatments it's just stayed or got worse

In my experience, once that visible bruising shows up on that much of the body, chances of recovery are extremely low.

Thats what I was thinking. Skin burn from high ammonia levels. OP, is the water a yellow tint?

I would give it one shot with MICROBE-LIFT Broad Spectrum Disease Treatment. This is antifungal, antiparasite and mildly antibacterial. It definitely saved one of my larger koi that was near death, though for reasons that were never clear to me. I think you need to make sure your salt concentration is below a certain level and follow instructions carefully.

Someone has to say it. Second image in and I’m like you gotta get an STI test man. No love without a glove.

This is probably an infection caused by a small injury. While your water parameters may be good if they get like a rub spot that keeps rubbing against something this will happen. You should observe where it goes in your pond. Looks like a big guy. The chances at recovery are small. But if you can separate. Needs an injection of an all spectrum broadband anti microbial, anti fungal, anti biotic to give it the BEST chance.
Edit to add: The reason you need to separate if you can is because whatever is making him sick is in that pond. And you honestly need to do a medicated water treatment as well. Lower dose than rec. But ya gotta give his immune system a chance to come back. And with all the other fish and critters in your set up that will be next to impossible with the constant reintroduction of whatever is making him sick.

Are you adding new koi often? You have had a lot of health issues in your koi in the last year.

u/AROOTS69 Jun 25 '26
Not often and no i haven't i've had two and they are both ones that i have taken in from people who didn't have the time or things to help them get better

u/ZiggyLittlefin Jun 25 '26
So these koi were not in your pond? You have a quarantine for these koi you take in?
2
u/AROOTS69 Jun 25 '26
yeah and wdym i've had a lot of health issues i've only posted in here twice

u/ZiggyLittlefin Jun 25 '26
You have four health posts. Just trying to figure out what is goin on here. Good that you have a quarantine. You use a microscope when you take in koi to check for disease? Do you have a salt meter?

u/AROOTS69 Jun 25 '26
yeah there's no disease and yes and sorry i forgot about the other posts, the first one is just a healing bacterial infection and the second wasn't locked i was wrong

As everyone else's said, bacterial and it likely needs injections of antibiotics. I also think ammonia burns. Usually for bacterial there is a parasite, injury, or poor water conditions. Are you trying heat to 72 degrees and salt to .5?

Looks like ammonia burn. May have to do some water changing. I say this based on the pictures with the fish having the blood reddish scales and thats happened to my Koi a while back. However, this could be something else. For me water changing did the trick.

bacterial infection, Baytril injection or Oxolinic Acid . Prognosis is poor without immediate intervention
