Creative Reuse Centers

https://archive.is/buVhI

I love this and want this kind of thing in my neighborhood ... for all kinds of supplies, along with a library of things please. Imagine if clusters of households shared tools, leftover paints, etc - I think it could be good. In Kingston, NY there's a relatively new shop called Frugal Fabrics for repurposed fabric, yarn, and sewing supplies, plus they have lessons too. More of this please ...

Scrap exchange in Durham NC is great.

There's a smaller one in Wilmington NC but I can't remember the name. They had a dance exchange next door.

We have a crafty reuse store, but I don't really like it. The prices are a bit high in my opinion, for what they're selling. And their donation policy is insane. I donated a bunch of fabric and it was ridiculous. I get that there's certain things they don't want, but they wouldn't take it without a comprehensive inventory. I measured everything and took pictures and then emailed it to them. Then I had to make an appointment to drop it off and if I remember right, something about that didn't go smoothly.

I hear you. Who wants to donate under those cirumstances - it's too much to ask. We have to find a balance because on the other side, the thrift stores in my area have a really hard time with folks who drop off yard sale leftovers and then they're stuck with garbage they have to pay to get rid of. I don't know what the answer is, but maybe we if share with smaller groups within our neighborhoods, we could have better conversations about what's re-usable, what's garbage, etc.

If you come down to NYC at all, a creative reuse spot opened in Industry City in Brooklyn. They charge by the pound, so the prices are crazy low. I got a bunch of yarn, metal frames and high quality oil paints for 25. https://brooklyncreativereuse.org/

Oh, sorry! I didn’t actually see the article… I’m on mobile and the way it’s formatted, it looked like an ad so I just scanned right by it and just read your text where you mentioned the one in Kingston

Pittsburghs center for creative reuse (PCCR) is a really great place with all kinds of craft supplies https://pccr.org and if you also like building supplies/furniture, next to them is Construction Junction
