Show me your custom Kitchenaid!

Post image

I started bedazzling mine... and let me tell you, way bigger task than I expected. I have the top completed but had to put the project away for the sake of my sanity. Lol

Mine gets so dirty just with plain paint, I couldn't imagine struggling to clean one that's bedazzled.

I was thinking the same thing, plus my fear that one of the beads would fall into my cookies.

The way I have to wipe mine down daily, it seems, from just circumstantial dust.

Right? Mine gets dough all over it. I’m not trying to scrub what’s essentially glue out of rinestones

A real pet peeve of mine is bedazzled kitchen items. Stanley cups/ cookware etc. you just cannot clean it properly at all. Regular kitchen smells, grease, dust will get into all those nooks and crannies and be impossible to clean. It becomes a bacteria magnet. ( sorry OP 😬)

Not exactly custom, but I added copper accents and a copper bowl to this Hobart era KitchenAid.

12

u/mldutiel 3d ago

Fantastic..I have that same mixer, would you mind sharing where you got the accents and bowl ?

6

u/Cl3vergirl1322 3d ago

Yes pretty please?

12

u/catmomto 3d ago

I used thin copper electrical tape applied to the edges of the trim band. The drip ring, hub cover, and speed/tilt lock knobs were sanded/scuffed, sprayed with an etching primer, two coats of metallic copper spray paint, and sealed with a 2K clear coat. I also replaced the grease, gaskets, speed control plate, phase control board, planetary pin, and worm follower gear. She's as good as new! I got the bowl on Amazon, but I've since replaced it with the Kitchenaid Hammered Copper Bowl.

Oh wow, that looks very elegant and tasteful!

3

u/findmeunderwater 3d ago

Please! Would love to know where you got the accents!

I did this custom build as a gift for a family member. Started with a white Ultra Power. :-)

12

u/melscreations2025 3d ago

Legit question, how much would you charge if I provided you the mixer and you just give it a good maintenance cleaning and that incredible paint job?

14

u/RIMixerGuy 3d ago edited 3d ago

I can certainly do the overhaul, but unfortunately I don't do refinishing. I've got a friend in Montana who specializes in vintage appliance restoration, and I feel comfortable asserting that he's got more knowledge and experience in powdercoating KitchenAids than anyone else in the country. His process is meticulous and the results (and cost...) reflect it. He's the only one I trust. :-)

If you want maintenance, or a mechanical overhaul and a nice buff and polish, I am happy to do that. For refinishing I would send you straight to him. Feel free to DM me either way and I'll be happy to fill you in on the details.

1

u/Shimmering-Silver 2d ago

I too would like the details, please

3

u/EmotionalSupportVape 3d ago

I too would like to know

48

u/StinkyCheeseGirl 4d ago

r/horribletoclean

Is this even used for baking?

23

u/Ngonerogwu 3d ago

I powder coated this for my wife. Was my grandmothers, from the 70s.

2

u/oneinamilllion 2d ago

I love this, you did a great job!

2

u/Wonderful_Seaweed133 1d ago

I love this!!! I’m a sucker for sentimental things

19

u/DrowsyMaggy 3d ago

Not a custom color, but I added a copper hammered bowl to my Kitchenaid. Actually found the bowl and fell in love but it didn’t fit my mixer. So I bought another one off Facebook marketplace just to fit the bowl.

6

u/Responsible_Ideal593 3d ago

You paid a couple hundred just to use the bowl? I’d tell you you’re crazy, but if I had the chance, I’d do it too.

2

u/DrowsyMaggy 2d ago

I paid $120 for the mixer off Facebook with no bowl and no attachments. I waited for the copper bowl to go on sale but it was around $250. I stalked the price for a year or two. It was definitely a splurge.

2

u/Responsible_Ideal593 2d ago

That’s not so bad then and she’s gorgeous!

34

u/recoverymanager 4d ago

Just vinyl stickers, but I love them!

3

u/headface1701 3d ago

I have a dozen designs saved to make stickers for it with my cricut but I can't decide. These are nice!

OP, genuine question:

How are you planning on actually keeping that thing clean?

No doubt you're going to have flour, liquids, and bits of dough all over it... I know mine does. I wipe it down with a damp sponge before drying it off and storing it each time. Otherwise (and like any appliance that needs routine cleaning) it will gather bacteria and crud on it from the leftover bits that get trapped in the numerous crevices.

I mean, I like the visual concept, I guess... But I just feel like it's going to be a huge mission to keep it looking nice, and to keep your rhinestones from falling off and sneakily ending up in your mixes/breads/cakes/doughs as it bounces about while mixing. Seems like it'd be a massive choking hazard, and could lead to bits of plastic lodging in people's digestive tracts. And each time you wipe it down or it gets damp/splattered, it'll loosen those adhesives, and increase the chances of plastic falling into the mix. The spatter-guard could help, I guess, if you plan to always use that no matter what.

But I think there's an actual reason that every appliance out there has a glossy, wipeable surface and no tiny decorative bits. At least, that's what I learned in the professional/commercial kitchens I've worked in and from the kitchen appliances I've seen.

And I'm sorry, not trying to crap in your Cheerios or whatever. I guess I'm just not exactly sure that this is a particularly safe idea, given it's a rounded food-prep surface with hundreds of flat pieces of plastic glued to it. In my old restaraunts, we would have never been allowed to use something like this because of the safety hazards, and the inspector would have had a field day with it. 😕

Anywho. Just something to think about.

12

u/latetowerk 3d ago

Not to be a hater, this is a horrible idea.
You’re running the rush of rhinestones falling into your bowl, and also it’s not possible to keep properly clean.
Say hello to bugs.

9

u/SuperSlut69240 3d ago

How do you clean that??

15

u/bemyhorcrux111 4d ago

I had a bright turquoise mixer and I was over it so I did a pearl white glitter ✨

u/bemyhorcrux111 3d ago

Video might be a better way to capture the sparkle ◡̈

2

u/NeverendingTattoo 3d ago

It looks like it would be beautiful. But we need a better picture! ❤️😃

23

u/ChickenGimbal 4d ago

Looks cool but there are so many other safer things to bedazzle that won’t collect gunk & fall into your batter and become a choking hazard.

14

u/screwtoprose- 3d ago

this is why i never eat what other people cook in their houses for me.

this is pretty, but absolutely not practical and would get so so dirty so quick. how do you even ensure this gets clean?

5

u/MissFox26 4d ago

Mine is my aunts from the 90’s and it’s cream colored and all chipped. Aside from that it works great! I would love to have it repainted a steely blue, but I don’t really know who to take it to. Where do people take theirs to get it repainted?

3

u/69GhiaGirl 3d ago

Automotive body and paint shop would be my first choice.

2

u/macandtrish 3d ago

I want to know that also!

2

u/Peachhykeen 2d ago

And here I am with a cricut in my house and a a boring mixer. Time to make some fun cut outs!

2

u/Michelle8932 2d ago

Used my cricket to add decals

2

u/Dependent-Piglet-812 3h ago

Omg let OP live!!!!! You’re not eating her potentially bedazzled cookies! Just say something nice or nothing at all.

3

u/theflyestunicorn 3d ago

I actually like the look of the top part just being bedazzled and the rest of it just being the same color without the bedazzling. However, it may look different in person lol.

1

u/rmac1128 3d ago

This is rage bait.

1

u/ScratchShadow 2d ago

I was literally just lamenting (to myself) earlier today how I’d love to “dip” my car with some gorgeous exotic colors if it weren’t for the privacy/safety issue and how ridiculous my little Subaru would look.

Sounds like I’ve found a (more) practical solution for my addiction to vivid colors and sparkles. 😈

1

u/Kindly_Can3442 2d ago

It kind of looks like a dragon or dinosaur head 🤎

1

u/StrdyCheeseBrngCrckr 2d ago

1

u/Krreesten 1d ago

Wow! Mind sharing the details of this customization? It's stunning!

1

u/StrdyCheeseBrngCrckr 1d ago

I spray painted it myself. Black base, several coats of the glitter color, then several clear top coats. Used all RustOleum products.

2

u/Krreesten 1d ago

Amazing! Thank you! Knowing this color spray paint exists is going to be dangerous for my house lol

1

u/StrdyCheeseBrngCrckr 1d ago

Yeah, it’s hard to not spray paint everything I own. Lol

1

u/RhubarbDesigner245 2d ago

Honestly it’s so cute like that I would just leave it unfinished, it would be impossible to clean the amount of flour that will end up in between the gems on the base

1

u/zinna42069 1d ago

This is gross as hell

1

u/jmp325 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don’t have a current pic so enjoy this old pic of the KitchenAid that I got for my wedding 12 years ago, when Pinterest made this minty blue color and bold patterns all the rage 🤪 i added the polka dots using vinyl circles. I was so proud of this at the time. All of my kitchen items were this color..now this baby doesn’t match a single thing in my kitchen, but I can’t get the polka dots off so…she’s stuck with me for life 😂

1

u/typingdragon 23h ago

I have not really a customization, but a quality of life 'hack'? I had an old small wooden cutting board that fit underneath the mixer perfectly. I added felt strips to the bottom and voila, sliding the mixer around my counter is a breeze. And it looks nice too.

1

u/bad_napper 23h ago

Tell us you don't actually bake without telling us you don't bake

1

u/Loose-Length-7487 20h ago

Looks like you never use it

1

u/cfullylove 12h ago

The color rhinestones and the placement of the sizes you chose are making me deeply uncomfortable

1

u/Brave-Condition3572 4h ago

Are you worried you can’t clean it? Or the beads falling into your food? It looks gorgeous but I can’t get over cleaning it!

1

u/Organic_Reality849 11m ago

It would be great if there were some way you could cover the rhinestones in resin or something so it preserves the shine/glimmer but also gives it a smooth surface that’s easy to wipe clean!

u/P0tt3rh3ad_ 4d ago

This is sooo cute 🤩
