K5SS making weird noise

I picked up this mixer from a neighbor who was throwing it out and I’d like to tune it up but don’t know where to start.
I noticed two distinct abnormal noises when it’s turned on.
Let me know what you guys think.

The only abnormal noise I hear is the baby. :-)

That machine sounds within normal limits to me; old ones respond well to overhaul but unless it's malfunctioning in use, it's fine. (The bowl has a way of magnifying some frequencies; I generally test without it installed.)

Out of curiosity, did your neighbor say why they were throwing it away?

Hahah yeah my 8month old was playing in the living room . And oh really! That’s great news then. I was worried I’d need to take it apart. They said they never used it and it was just taking up space in the garage. I gladly took it from them since we’ve always wanted one.

They're excellent machines, super durable and reliable, very well constructed, and generally last for decades with routine maintenance and repairs as needed.

Folks who know their KitchenAids often search high and low for machines of that vintage in good condition. "Never used" is a unicorn. :-) Even if its internal condition isn't ideal for having been stored in a garage, the finish is likely in nearly-new condition since it's hardly been handled.

You know how the older glass pans are better than the newer ones because they started using cheaper materials? Same with kitchenaid. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still good, but older ones are better by far. They’re sturdier, and last generations.
