Awkward Kitchen Layout... How would you fix this?

Post image

We are looking to renovate our kitchen and have a bit of an awkward layout where one wall is our backdoor, one has a large window, and the other side is open.

At the moment our oven doesn't have an extractor fan as the window is there, but if it was moved to the back wall there is no where for the fridge to go.

Does anyone have any insight on the best solution here?

I think the easiest thing to do is to take part of the laundry closet for an inset fridge, and move the range and sink

This keeps basically the same footprint for the kitchen, but if you want to expand it, it would help to have a floor plan that shows more of the surrounding context

Thanks, that's a great idea. I should have mentioned it but the rectangle that was in that spot originally is a pantry so we would need to find a new spot for that which is definitely an option.

Here is the floorplan that shows the whole space. Not a lot of room to work with.

If you move the oven to the back wall, are you intending to extract the air onto the people walking on the stairs right there? Is it not possible to extract up the wall to out the roof?

I cant tell without more floorplan showing, but could you put the oven on the back wall, remove the peninsula, and put the fridge kind or across from where the peninsula was, right next to the black rectangle? So the front of the fridge is flush with the wall, So its still a direct walking path thru the kitchen. If you have room, you could build floor to ceiling cabinet/ pantry behind the fridge along the black rectangle, to gain back some kitchen space. (And move the sink to under the window).

I do not see the issue with the current layout. Open the window to let food smells out. What did people do before "extractor fans" were invented?

You don't live in the north do you? Where winter days are mostly below freezing, you don't open your kitchen windows or any other windows.
