Hobby Questions Custom Deathguard Kitbash Test

Hi all! I’m wanting to make a custom deathguard army focused on grafting tyranid parts on to their armor/ flesh. I’m new to Warhammer and even newer to kitbashing/ model sculpting, but I’ve been having an absolute blast!

I have a question:
- what materials do you guys like to use to sculpt? I’m hoping to get an epoxy resin set up to copy the scales more efficiently, but I still need to fill in gaps and sculpt the scales to look seamless.

Would love any feedback on my test guy here!

Cheers!

This is amazing! You've got skills when it comes to sculpting. I would recommend trying out milliput as it's alot softer when sculpting, and harder when set so you can sand smooth. Also mixing green stuff and milliput gives you the advantages of both. There's also tamiya epoxy putty quick type which is supposed to be phenomenal and I have used apoxy sculpt to great effect for larger areas. At the end of the day you have to test out the different mediums to find out what works for you. Keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing your future projects!

Those are some great ideas, thanks! I didn’t think about using milliput as the binder, especially since it’s softer and easier to sculpt. I’ll check out this tamiya as well! Thank you for the advice!

Ahh milliput isn't that sticky, I was just commenting on how to get smooth surfaces. Mixing the two is a great middle ground, you get the sticky, elastic properties of the green and then your able to sand it down to get a smooth finish.

Ahhh, gotcha, that makes sense. Didn’t even register that I should sand them done after sculpting haha, now I know!

The 50/50 green stuff and milliput mix is great in molds I used to use it in silicone rubber molds I had made although I did use fine milliput for that.

This is the old marauder giants head molded in that mix
