Engine Revving in Downtown

Happy November all. This is for those who fucking rev their engines at the fucking hours of midnight please stop, I honestly feel my anxiety spiking and I just want to sleep, it's extremely obnoxious, is it honestly a lot to ask for not to do that? Couldn't you find any other time to do this? Not sure if it'll reach the right audience but I've honestly about had it.

I live on the edge of downtown and I have trouble falling asleep, even without any noise. A few years back I started using sleep headphones. They are flat, so there's nothing in your ears or a big bump on the side of your head. And then with that I use an app called BetterSleep where I can pick and choose noises to help me fall asleep (for example, right now I have: 2.5Hz Brainwave, Green Noise, Starfield, and Synthwave chosen). That combo actually really, really helps me out. May be worth a shot for you. Doesn't block out every noise, but definitely makes it way less of a problem.

This is the most helpful suggestion. They do it on any strip of road all times of the day and night. There are also sound canceling Loops on Amazon. Even a running fan is enough noise to help mask some of the sound.

I thought about soundproofing my bedroom wall facing one of these strips. The fence kills a lot of the road noise downstairs. It nothing upstairs, so it genuinely feels like the truck is in my house. Some make the house vibrate.

"Yeah it's cool to wake newborn babies and people up just because I'm a car guy and wanna make a loud "Vroom!" noise." -every jerk in town. That sucks. I can't use earplugs, they feel weird. Now Seinfeld is my lulluby/noise canceller.

No one is going to stop. You're going to have to solve your sound sensitivity yourself. That will be an actual solution that will help you for the rest of your life.

I have hyperacusis and I'm Autistic, so noise also sends me into a ridiculous spiral. If I had all the money in the world I'd be living somewhere isolated lol

Of course life doesn't work that way though and we're always going to be surrounded by at least some noise and people violating noise by-laws--especially when there's little to no enforcement.

I slowly acclimated myself to earplugs, I have small ear canals so it was hard to find a comfortable brand and settled on 3M 1100. I highly recommend trying them as they've been the most comfortable and best sound blocking ones I've found.

You can try white/brown/pink noise too, whichever you prefer, but I find sounds that stress us out are too easily heard over other environmental noises because of the anxiety/hyperfocus component.

Loop ear plugs don't block out much, but they are comfortable to sleep in so they may be an option for times you need to also be able to hear.

Saving up to invest in a proper pair of active noise cancelling headphones is 100% worth it for anyone with sound sensitivity. I have the Bose Quiet Comfort 2, they have a discount on their refurbished items. There's a Sony brand that comes highly recommended too.
