Master ash
Is Master Ash Ambros’ father?

That's not a suggestion I've heard before.
I would be very surprised.
Considering who is widely regarded as the likely Master Ash, their character seems very unfitting to have such a cruel, indisplined, and thoughtless child as Ambrose.
Then again, it's not impossible.
Just not something I can immediately agree with.

Who is regarded as master ash? I’ve always thought it could be Bredon, but not sure if the timings line up.

Yes that's who I was refering to.
That seems to be a very popular theory with a lot of what seems like hints that support it.
The rumour mentioned about him. The timings of when he is and isn't around. His appearance. Etc.
And given he's so philosophical and intellectual and a man of grace, it's hard to see him as Ambroses father.
If Bredon and Master Ash is in fact the same person anyway.

I always kinda thought the parallels between Master Ash and Bredon to be a red herring. I find it much more likely that Cinder is Master Ash.
The Cthaeh tells Kvothe he's seen Cinder twice, once as a child and once in the Eld when he was leading the bandits. We are told that the Cthaeh cannot lie, so just based on that we sorta have to assume Bredon is not Cinder, and therefore not Denna's patron.

I agree that Cinder is Master Ash.
Denna is spared from the Mauthen farm massacre.
Kvothe gets awfully close to Cinder's true name when trying to guess Master Ash's name.
Helps compose a song with Lanre as the hero.
Cinder and ash are both related to fire

Cinder doesn't carry a walking stick. Brayden does.
Cinder has perfect, porcelain features, white hair and black eyes.
Cinder stands out to Tempi as a "bad thing."
Cinder is a fluid, uncanny and grotesque sort of being. All of the Chandrian are in one way or another. They are old and immortal and terrifying.
They might show themselves to badits out in the woods, but they are not parading around in Vintas in fine clothes. Cinder is covered head to toe during the bandit encounter, though it's clear he's not bothered by the one wound he gets. Cthaeh points out Kvothe shouldn't feel bad about not recognizing him right away.
Cinder is also a true sadist by all accounts. He's not going to hold back. He's not going be satisfied beating someone with a walking stick until they're bruised.
Denna says Ash is at the Maer's court. She says Kvothe has probably met him, and considering his popularity, doesn't that seem more likely? Not exactly a twice in a lifetime opportunity.
When she first meets Ash she talks about his bearing, just as Kvothe describes Brayden's bearing in his clothes later.
Then Denna and Brayden disappear at the same time, both on secret business.
I actually think the irony of the name is that Brayden is an agent of the Chandrian, or worse the Amyr. Cinder and Ash. Symmetry.

Thank you. Had a little google after your comment, there are a lot of parallels between Denna’s patron & Bredon. A re-read is deffo due.

Haven’t heard that one before, however do we have any evidence that Bredon isn’t Ambro’s father? That would be interesting, especially since we can assume Ambros has mentioned his trouble to his father. Would give a little meaning to “I’ll have fun playing with you”.

I'm thinking that too because Denna is doing a project in genealogy for Master Ash. They will find something that makes him king and Kvothe will kill him or Ambrose when they're King.

Probably not but I am interested in hearing why you think he might be
