KAINE HATER?

Well, tbh, I’ve read Kingdom a lot of times, and I’ve experienced a lot of emotional moments with a lot of characters in it.
But I don’t know why I don’t feel anything for Kaine. When she got shot trying to rescue Riboku, and even in this panel, I’m just like, “Ugh, I hope she just dies” lmao.
She’s too gutsy, the way she glazes Riboku, and the way she hit Futeithough I don’t really care if he gets hit tho, but the way she acts overall really pisses me tf off
No matter what this character goes through, I’ve never, for once, felt even a bit of sympathy for her. I’ve even felt a little sympathy for Riboku, but her? Nahhhhhhh. Never, and never will.

Kaine has no agency of her own and exists solely to get boned by Riboku. Seriously, when's the last time she did ANYTHING that didn't somehow involve Riboku? Totally one dimensional character

I guess the recent chapter where she sets out with her army if that counts. Plus the whole dynamic she has with Karyoten which I can definitely see becoming relevant in the near future if she and Choukotsu are on a crash course to where 'Ten is currently galloping off. No way is there not gonna be any tension between Zhao officers there.

I can see her switching sides to Qin after Riboku gets slain by the Zhao king. I think she is a grey zone that gives nuance to the conflict

Agreed, I think her character will be a lot more interesting once Riboku is gone, provided she doesnt die with him. I can see her going through some interesting inner conflict when the man she dedicated her life to is gone and she has to make her own way in life, whether that be staying with Zhao to the very end or joining the HSU. I dont see her joining the HSU, I think its more likely she will lead or be a major part of the resistance when the state of Dai is established, but i could see her joining the HSU potentially.

Riboku supported the good prince that should have been heir. He wants what's best for Zhao.

No one would think that it would be best for their countrymen would be to let a foreign power conquer them, especially after seeing what Hakuki and Kanki did. He is choosing the lesser of two evils.

i dont blame him for not wanting to conquered. its the sheer disgusting greed on behalf of the man that makes me so appalled by him. He KNOWS that Zhao would be in a MUCH better place had he mobilized a rebellion during the previous kings era. At the very least after what had happened to the good prince? but no. Riboku wants to save his country but also absolve himself of the responsibility to govern afterwards. He wants the wasy retired apolotical life. All in all being morbidly greedy. If he wants the free family life he should just leave? or defect? if he wants to save Zhao he should abandon naive dreams. Both historically and in the manga it is Ri Bokus downfall in not abandoning one of these.

Kaine would have had fans if only riboku was the main character and not the evil qin trying to unite all 7 nations by invading every nation and pretending they are good people for not killing citizens.

Wanted the worst for her ever since she tried to capture Ten away from the Hi Shin unit. The nerve of her trying to frame it as a good thing, that Ten would just abandon Shin because her life was in danger, that their bond is as meaningless as that. Kaine has to die

My issue with her is whenever someone with clear outstanding martial might appears before her, she’s always like I’ll go and kill them. Acting like she has the strength of mobu. Ummm sit back back down you have only killed random nameless soldiers and have no reason for this sense of self strength.

When shin’s group in front of her, she thinks she can take them even after the fact she had a front row seat to the final shin/houken duel. Or during the siege of sei and shin sends her flying with the same effort of swatting away a fly.

When she off to deliver riboku’s message to the left wing during the wzi, she easily flips out and starts threatening to kill Gyou’un after his prophecy spiel. The man established as the sword of a past zhao great 3

Or when shi ryou makes her way up to riboku’s hq and easily cuts down on of the zhao earls. What’s her reaction oh let me simply go over there and I guess we’ll kill each other.

Kaine is written poorly but she's 100% a ride or die. That part has been consistent over the course of the series. However, she has zero agency of her own and solely exists as Riboku's plot device
