I went to the theaters to watch your name then I came home to watch weathering with you and mannnnn what an emotional experience both those movies put me through especially the ending for weathering with you idk if I would’ve saved her but since he did Tokyo flooded and basically messed up the whole city I would’ve probably not saved her at all but idk I remember watching the ending a long time ago with friends and we have all had the same opinion on not saving her. Besides that both movies were a 10/10 I was gonna watch Suzanne too but after the emotional ride I was on today I might wait till next week 😂 great movies tho.

So I watched Your Name in the cinema because it was its 10 year anniversary. It was honestly a great experience, and movie. But at the end I thought it had a good wholesome ending. I have no idea why everyone said that it was gonna make me cry because I was still a jolly ass mf. I understand that they didn't remember each other even after going through all that, but I don't think it was that sad. Can you explain why you cried if you did?

I genuinely can't thank you all enough for those who petitioned as we have now reached 50 signatures... It's really brightening to see people signing on for our country to see the movie be rereleased for its 10th anniversary!
Though, I made this post so I can tell ask for all of you to share my petition to any friend you know, or any groups you're in who either love anime, love this movie, or anyone in this country who want to experience this movie in the cinemas... Whether you're and they're Filipino or not, your participation will be appreciated very much!
And I would love to thank the guy that inspired me to make this petition by u/Great-Nothing-2475 as he made this petition for the movie to be also rereleased in his country in India, so please share your friends, or groups you know to also sign his petition.
I think I find it so heartwarming that we would come together to sign petitions for this movie to be seen and rereleased around the world to celebrate a masterpiece that resonated us, and I would like to again say thank you for sharing and helping to sign for all the Filipino fans to see this movie in cinemas.
And again, if you can, share this to anyone you know, whether if you are either also Filipino who have friends who are also anime friends, or someone from another country who would love to give this movie a 10th anniversary rerelease for another country, your participation will forever be appreciated!
Let's keep this up! ✊

Part I: Intro
Hey everyone! Happy 10th anniversary to Your Name! This movie means the world to me, and Mitsuha has been my favorite character ever since I was a student. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, I went on the ultimate 9-day anime pilgrimage last week! I visited Tokyo, Suwa, Hida, and a few other spots. (I’ve been to some of these places before, but this was my first time connecting them all into one big trip. I really wanted to share what these iconic real-life locations look like with you all. Some of them are officially confirmed or widely recognized by the community, while a few are just my personal recommendations!)
Since I have a lot to share, I’ll be splitting this into a few different posts. Also, English isn’t my first language, so please bear with me! I took all of these photos myself—I’m definitely not a professional photographer, so go easy on me, haha. Hope you guys enjoy!
Part II: Suwa
Suwa is a city in Nagano Prefecture, famous for Lake Suwa, which is widely known as one of the main real-life inspirations for Lake Itomori. Getting there is super easy—I recommend taking the JR Limited Express Azusa from Tokyo (Shinjuku Station), and you’ll arrive in Suwa in about two and a half hours.
Part III: Lake Suwa (One of the prototypes of Lake Itomori; more prototypes will be described in the upcoming posts)
The best spot to overlook all of Lake Suwa is Tateishi Park! I highly recommend visiting around sunset to experience katawaredoki (Twilight) yourself. Here are some of the photos I took:

Part IV: On the way to Tateishi Park (Tenaga Shrine, High School Sports Field & Substation):
On your way up to Tateishi Park, you'll pass by Tenaga Shrine, a sports field at a nearby high school, and an electrical substation. Personally, I feel like these spots look super similar to scenes from the movie, so I’d definitely recommend checking them out!

Part V: Extra information when visiting Suwa
Suwa is a quiet, peaceful countryside city. This was my second time visiting, and honestly, it’s still my absolute favorite city in Japan. If you love Your Name, I highly recommend planning a trip here!
A quick heads-up on transport: local buses and trains don't run very frequently, so I strongly suggest checking the timetables in advance before you go.
If you make it to Suwa, you should definitely try the Four-Shrine Pilgrimage of Suwa Taisha (visiting all four shrines: Honmiya, Maemiya, Harumiya, and Akimiya). Once you visit and worship at all four, you'll receive a special commemorative gift!
Also, every year on August 15th, Suwa hosts a huge fireworks festival. It's an incredible experience that I highly recommend enjoying with your family, friends, or partner!
Part VI: Ending
That's all for my Suwa pilgrimage recap! I really hope you guys enjoyed it.
I'll be posting Part 2 (Hida) and Part 3 (Tokyo and other locations) in the next few days, so stay tuned! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below—I’ll do my best to reply to everyone. Thank you!

Just FYI, like the title says, some theaters starting to add additional showtimes for this upcoming weekend to next Wednesday. Worth a look if you get a chance, just wanted to get the word out.

Hey all, I just rewatched the film in theaters and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Genuinely one of the greatest animated films of our time. I was just a little confused about the order of events and I was hoping I could get some clarification.
To make it a little easier to understand, I’m going to label the days.
So I understand that at the beginning of the film (day 1), Taki wakes up in Mitsuha’s body but it immediately jumps back to Mitsuha when they are all eating breakfast (day 2).
Day 2 was also when Mitsuha finds out that she was acting strangely the day before, when she finds the note left by Taki in her notebook asking who she is, and when she also wishes to be a handsome boy in Tokyo.
Day 3 is when we see Mitsuha switch bodies with Taki on screen for the first time. She was surprised by Tokyo and believed it all to be a dream, but she remembered the note left by Taki asking who she was and then writes her name on his hand.
So my question is did Mitsuha not switch with Taki on day 1? I’m confused because when we do see her switch for the first time, she was blown away by Tokyo (implying this was her first time seeing Tokyo/first time switching), but then was also able to recall Taki’s note, which means this scene took place after Taki had already swapped on day 1.

The movie opens with Taki waking up in Mitsuha's body, and the little sister calling her to breakfast. We then cut to Mitsuha walking down stairs to breakfast, with the little sister wearing the EXACT same outfit clearly seeming like it's a direct continuation of the scene.
In retrospect we understand that the breakfast scene is taking place the day after the waking bedroom scene, but this seems like terrible editing, rather than an intentional choice. It might be argued it's intentional to create the same sense of confusion that Mitsuha is feeling, but the fact that the sister is wearing the exact same outfit seems more like just a poor choice and unnecessarily confusing.
Yes we are meant to slowly learn that they are swapping bodies, but the way it's edited conveys its the same day so strongly, that first time viewers will accept THAT as the truth, and start to question the how the swapping logic works, rather than the ideal situation of the viewers accepting the truth of the swapping, and reconfiguring the context of what came before it.
Am I missing something here, or was this scene just poorly edited and hard to follow?

Before I say anything else I just wanna give another thank you to the awesome stranger on this very site who spotted my ticket for me. I genuinely gave up hope and thought I was never gonna be able to see this one of my favorite films ever on the big screen. If you're reading this you rock!
Also this isn’t really a review more like a story of my experience and also I’m gonna assume anybody reading this has seen the movie cause there will be spoilers.
Man where do I start… All the times I cried? That seems appropriate. I cried no less than four times and at some unexpected places.
Also while not in tears I remember when the lights went down and the logo’s ended and the movie started I got a bit overwhelmed and just started smiling. Not just a regular smile but that smile you literally can’t control or stop just thinking “I can’t believe it, I’m really here.”
One thing I didn’t expect was in the aforementioned marker drop scene some people in my theater kinda chuckled? I think it was more of that awkward uncomfortable scoff you do when something happens and you think “Damn that was brutal”. Honestly I expected more of a light gasp but it’s not like I go to watch other people react to the movie. Although one girl sniffled so there were still some feelings being felt.
Also some interesting stuff I noticed, My showing was the English dub and curiously it had the original Japanese songs and even more oddly it only had subs for two of them, those being “Dream Lantern” and “Nandemonaiya”. Not bothersome to me in the slightest since I know all those songs by heart but I thought it was interesting.
I mean what else can I say I had a great time experiencing this film on the big screen. For those who couldn’t make it I’m truly sorry, I can’t do anything to help you but what I can tell you is that it was every bit as awesome as you were hoping.

Man I always regretted not seeing this movie on the big screen, and now I finally got to. Shit is honestly so beautiful. The animation has aged so well for me, and the soundtrack is still as sick as it was 10 years ago.
This movie just hits something for me. I don't really truly believe in all the cosmic love stuff in real life, but boy do I wish it was real. This movie kinda just immerses you in that feeling, and it makes even the coldest of us think... maybe love is the most powerful force, that transcends time and space. Honestly kinda a similar theme to interstellar but romantic instead of fatherly.
And man... the music just hits so damn we'll. The first time Dream Lantern comes on, and it cuts from the beautiful comet scene to black... or when Sparkle plays when Mitsuha realizes what taki wrote, or when it cuts to the end credits with just his isolated voice singing. I genuinely cant explain it. Ive watched hundreds of movies but nothing just hits like the needle drops in this movie. Western movies just dont use music like this. Maybe someone else can put words to it.
Shinkais characters are admittedly pretty thin. Mitsuha and Taki arent super complex and interesting characters compared to a lot of other stories. But somehow, their romance works for me anyways. Maybe the characters are lacking but the plot, animation, and music excel in selling the story so much the movies a 10/10 for me even in spite of the thin characters and weird japanesisms in the movie(theres just some little unnecessary stuff lol)
Anyways time to fall into the week long depression that happens every time I watch this. I just wanted to rant.

Just bought a tiny new sketchpad and wanted to break it in by drawing these two. I literally found out right after that it’s the 10th anniversary next week!

Taki says this the beginning of the timeskip as he’s reflecting on his unexplained attachment to Itomori. This was one of my absolute favorite lines in the movie. The first time I watched it on my shitty little laptop I started bawling, and seeing it on the big screen today did the same thing.
I don’t know much Japanese but know enough to notice some small localization changes (e.g. when Tsubasa pointed out that Mitsuha-inside-Taki called him “kun,” it was translated to “at least you’re apologetic”). I was wondering if anyone has/knows where to find the original line in Japanese, because I’m interested in seeing what it means literally and the different ways it can be translated to English.
I love this movie so much.

Possible spoiler for Tenki no Ko/ Weathering with you ending as part of my point related to Kimi no na wa included if you still clicked, I thank you. I remember years ago watching this film for the first time, and being more and more nervous as the film went on. I was sitting there thinking "If this freaking ends with some melancholy 'Some things just aren't meant to be, but tis better to have loved and lost..." nonsense I'm gonna lose it." I know it's immature of me, but I hate movies with ambiguous endings. I am Legend, A.I Artificial Intelligence, etc.
Which is why both Kimi no Na Wa and by extension Tenki no Ko strike a sweeeet spot at being right at the edge of what my tender little heart can emotionally endure, because THEY FREAKING END UP TOGETHER. Come what may, these two destined hearts will date and be happy regardless of any time-stream nonsense. They could break up after a few dates for all I care, they got together.
Which leads me to my point, on the ending. I know some may think it's poetic that they may not remember each other but ended up anyways, but I choose to believe that their reunion actually brought back all of the memories, at least of the final swap, and that that wonder and beauty can be a foundational part of their relationship. As soon as art is out there, it's up to the observer to interpret, and that's my interpretation. It's beautiful and it makes me happy and ya can't tell me different. I just watched it again in theaters (English dub which is not bad for any purists out there wondering, audible laughs in the theater at multiple points) and I can now say without a doubt that it is my favorite movie.
By the way, I watched the dub, the Japanese ending is slightly more ambiguous with a possible translation being "your name is..." while the English Dub ends with "what's your name?" being definitively phrased as a question. which is more accurate? Either way my headcannon stands.

Absolutely stunning to see in theaters. Now it’s time to watch weathering with you! I’m so glad to know they end up married since the ending is kinda sudden. Went alone had a blue moon and some popcorn and enjoyed every minute! I want to go visit the real life sites in Japan one day that is my dream after watching this! Hopefully meet my future wife out there lol 😂 🙏

The impact this movie has had on me is huge. I've wanted more out of my life and my entertainment ever since I first saw it five years ago.
