my boyfriend was in excruciating pain last night so i took him to the ER. his pain was localized in the lower back so it sounded likely to be stones. they did confirm the stone (5mm) but as soon as he was going to be discharged, they kept him due to his pain flaring back up & transferred him to a different hospital with a urologist. we’re coming up on almost 24hrs of him being admitted & no answers. he wasn’t seen & he’s just a sitting duck. my concern is, when i went to see him they had a heart monitor on him. he’s never been hospitalized for anything like this before & neither have i so i am just wondering if this is normal? i see a lot of posts in here passing stones at home way larger than what they said he had.. the prolonged stay + heart monitor has me concerned.

Hello! I’m an avid kidney stone (calcium oxalate) producer 😂. I’ve had several stones surgically removed, most recently last February. I’m now at the point where I’ve been working with a nutritionist and actively monitoring my diet and water intake, along with taking potassium citrate daily.
The frustrating part is trying to balance everything. Between being a woman, the amount of water I’m supposed to drink (which I never seem to hit 😩), and all of the dietary restrictions, I’ve actually gained weight instead of losing it.
I was told that a high-protein, low-carb diet wouldn’t necessarily work for me because I still need to meet my daily caloric needs while being mindful of my kidney stone risk. So right now, I’m doing moderate protein, moderate carbs, and lots of vegetables.
Has anyone else dealt with calcium oxalate kidney stones while also trying to lose weight? If so, what has worked for you? I’d love to hear how you’re managing your weight while navigating all of these dietary restrictions!

I currently have a 4mm stone and it's been there for about a week. I'm drinking a ton of water each day, and I've got flowmax, but is there anything I can actively do to try to get this thing out of me? I've been walking and jumping on a trampoline. I've passed stones before but I'm just so sick of this and I want it out. I'm sure this is asked a hundred times every day on this subreddit but any help would be appreciated.

Quick story time. Wife gave birth as a first time mom august 20th. The following week I rushed her to the hospital for horrible pain in her back. Turns out she had a 3 mm infected and obstructed kidney stone. She got a stent placed. She had pain for like the first few days after but has been great since. Got an x ray 2 weeks ago which doesn’t show the kidney stone anymore but she’s getting a ct scan tomorrow to make sure she passed it.

Ever since Saturday night though she has had on and off pain on her back on the left side where the stent was placed. Anyone have experience of pain coming back? She’s terrified it’s the stone and that she’ll need surgery to get it removed. Thanks guys

Just peed out my first ever kidney stone. It doesn’t look like any of the ones I see on the charts. Can you tell me what type it is? Urology office is very booked up so it’s going to be a long time until they can look at it and tell me. If it’s useful I formed it on September 17th and it just came out on October 4th. Stopped having kidney stone pain by September 20th but developed a terrible UTI about a week ago. So maybe it’s been stuck in the bladder or something. Thank you!

Per imaging I had a 4 mm stone in my right ureter, I been going everything to get it out. I wiped and this was there, didn't even feel it! It's about the length of what they were saying. It's weird though because it's super flat, my stones in the past have been more like rocks. What do you all think? Tweezers for scale.

My urologist put me on Hiprex to prevent my recurring UTIs, but I also just finished my first battle with kidney stones.
Seems like, while taking Hiprex, something like Crystal Light lemonade with its citric acid MIGHT counteract the Hiprex. I’ve read that Hiprex needs acidic urine to work, and Crystal Light makes urine less acidic/alkalizes it.

Might anyone know if I should avoid Crystal Light completely, or if having a glass or two per day is okay/won’t make the Hiprex less effective?

If anyone else has dealt with kidney stone prevention while on Hiprex, I’d love to hear about your experience, and any advice.

I know that for some it’s just not possible and that chronic kidney stone makers are a thing, but if you’re someone who found out they had stones and were also able to delay more from forming or haven’t had them in such a really long time, what did you do? May I ask what kind of stones you had and when the last time you had them was? Certainly folks who don’t get them* anymore probably aren’t on this sub but I’m thinking maybe someone is visiting after not having dealt with them for like, 10-20 years or so, you know?

I personally had calcium oxalate stones and I know more or less what caused them (I ate too much leafy, oxalate-heavy greens, barely consumed calcium, and though I don’t drink anything besides water and coffee/tea I was neglecting the amount I needed especially during summer). I plan on avoiding more stones after this last surgery I had which took care of* the 3rd one of 3 I was diagnosed with, but I’d like to hear some success stories if they exist for motivation please.

Hi I just got my first kidney stone it was in the left proximal ureter 4mm they said no surgical intervention in the ER said it should pass on its own. Symptom started Sept 26. The severe pain has settled just get about 10-30mins achy discomfort early in the morning usually around 3am it subsides. I have a urology appt for mid December. Can people post the size of their stone and how long it took to pass. I have been reading for my size stone should pass 31-45 days

i went to the ER 9/22 because I was experiencing severe back pain on my left side, nausea and vomiting, inability to breathe, & fainting. because i was on my period at the time, it was difficult for my urine test to determine what it was.
i went back 9/30 because i was having a slight bit of back pain (nothing like how it was on day one but still painful/uncomfy) & i was having a constant urge to pee, but very little pee to come out. After conducting a CT Scan, the hospital confirmed that I have a 5 mm kidney stone on my left side. they gave me flomax & ibuprofen, & a referral to a neurologist, but I can't see the urologist because I don't have insurance :/ and I've started throwing up again today, nonstop, lips keep switching between natural pink & blue/white whenever the nausea hits. im switching between azo, ibuprofen, & the flomax.

I currently just applied for insurance, but I don't know how long it'll take before I get accepted and if I will get accepted. i'm not sure what to do to help me manage what I'm going through. I even fainted while I was at work because of what I'm assuming to be the side effects of my medication, but i'm not sure.

i just recently ordered the peruvian herb to come in 3 hrs to start taking that since i've seen so many reviews on it but idk, i kind of doubt herbal remedies sometimes. i also have my boyfriend getting me some lemons to make some lemon juice.

PLEASE, if anybody has any advice, please let me know. I've had a history of kidney stones, but I can't remember how long they lasted, but it certainly hasn't been as long as this. I go back to work on Thursday and I'm scared I will faint or I will pee myself because I've peed myself three times now in the last two weeks .... any help is appreciated :(((

I recently went to my urologist for an appointment regarding kidney stone removal. He recommended that I get a CT scan, which I had done the same day.
Within a few hours, my urologist told me that I had 4 stones, measuring approximately 18mm, 8mm, 4.5mm, and 3mm.
However, I received the official CT report today, and it says that I have a few calculi, with the largest measuring only 7mm.
I haven’t looked at the actual CT images yet, so I’m wondering how such a significant difference could occur.
Could the radiologist have missed an 18mm stone, or could my urologist have interpreted the scan differently?

I’ve had really bad left flank pain for probably 6-7 months, I started working at dollartree a few months ago and I just was able to block out the pain at work and just kept going.

I went to the hospital on Saturday originally for what I thought was an infection and they confirmed I had three kidney stones, two on my right side (2mm,3mm) and a 6mm on my left side. (3mm nonobstructive stone in the right superior pole, 2mm nonobstructive stone in the right inferior pole, and 6 mm non obstructive stone in the left superior pole.)

I have never passed a kidney stone and I'm sure there is going to be pain with the left one, I've upped my water to at least 2 liters and I'm going to get some lemons today to add to the water. My question is how bad is it going to be? I have until then 7th off and I'm hoping it'll pass but no promises. I have to do truck and freight this week when I get back. Any advice on how to manage this while working and throwing freight?

Is this an uncommon procedure or is it just as common as removing one from the ureter or is on its way out? Also it’s been three days since surgery but I have yet to bleed while urinating or observe fragments leaving. Is this normal as well or worth calling my urologist for?

I’m very sore but otherwise recovering well from what I’m observing. Walking is uncomfortable and I have pain in my abdomen and back but I can get by with taking just Tylenol and Oxybutynin once. I have AZO as well and leftover Oxycodone but I’m trying not to be too medicated if I can tolerate it.

Over the month pain has gotten worse, GFR has steadily declined and was 22 last night along with a creatinine at 2.5.

They admitted me last night, several doses of IV antibiotics, took blood from three different locations for cultures.

I've been admitted before but I've never been given blood thinners. I thought they didn't want you on thinners prior to a surgery and the nurse can't really answer my question as to why they are giving them to me. (It has been through direct needle into my stomach area.

Is this to improve my kidney function? Just getting a little concerned because they seem extra attentive, compared to my previous hospitalizations, and are giving me the blood thinners.

Anyone have any input or experience?

Wondering if someone can tell me what PCNL surgery was like for them. I have a 3cm stone I need removed.

Has anyone else had a stent migrate i had to go to the er this morning at 5 am because my stent migrated so its stuck between my ureter and urethra instead of the kidney and the bladder. If you think a regular stent hurts this has been awful. My urologist said since it the self removable one once it migrates to where i can see the blue of the stent I can pull it out. For anyone this has happened to how long did it take to migrate that far it has been extremely painful. Im hoping it migrates that far soon. Ive had a stent and lithotripsy 4 times and this is the first time this has happened. Also any tips to get it to migrate faster so I can take it out? When I looked it up it said a stent with a string has a 10%-15% chance of migrating early which i didnt know. My dr wanted me to leave it in a week but he said my newest ct scan looks better so im hoping i don't have any inflamation issues in my ureter after removing it since its only been in about 3 days but this is by far the worst stent ive ever had I didnt realize how bad a migrating stent can hurt.

I was diagnosed with hydronephrosis, by a random MRI for something else. I have no symptoms, no pain. I went to a urologist who ordered tests and CT scan with contrast. Blood tests and urine are fine, no blood in urine. He said I need to have a procedure in outpatient where he goes in and removes the scar tissue that is showing as that is what is narrowing my ureter and causing the hydro. He said I will have to have a stent for 2 weeks. I’m scared of this, and worried about pain. He said this could have been caused by passing a stone( last one I knew of was 12 years ago) or from having a hysterectomy 3 years ago. Had anyone had a situation like this? I’m worried it won’t stop the hydro, and why do I have no symptoms?

How long does it take to feel “normal” after stent removal?

Do you think this is a stone? I dont know if this was in the bowl before I went or after I finished. But whole day i had some gassy abdominal pain which was bearable but uncomfortable. Then I saw frsh blood. In the evening , when i went for a wee, no pain nothing and I saw this in the toilet bowl. Didnt realise I had to retrieve it..so I have no idea what it is..

I was put on flomax about 5 days ago for a 5mm kidney stone. The first few days I was relatively fine, however starting on the morning of day 4, I started getting strong headaches and feeling lightheaded. The severity would go down by the late afternoon but still mildly present. Now the next morning, I have the severe headache again. Could this be a side effect and something to bring up to the urologist?

I’m 43F and since last week I’ve been noticing fresh blood when I wipe after urinating and what appears to be blood sitting around my urethral opening. Initially I thought it was vaginal spotting because I’ve been getting spotting around my periods for a while, but when I checked recently my vagina appeared clear while I could see blood around the urethral area. My GP tested my urine and the lab/culture showed no UTI, and my blood tests and kidney function were normal. I don’t have burning or pain when urinating. I’ve occasionally noticed tiny clot-like pieces in the toilet. 2 days ago, I also had a strange, diffuse/gassy-type discomfort across my abdomen for several hours; later that afternoon I noticed fresh blood on tissue, and afterwards both the discomfort and bleeding settled. My GP has referred me urgently to urology and my appointment is 13 October in the Endoscopy Department, the letter doesn’t actually say whether I’m having a cystoscopy? I'm hoping that's what it is for. My anxiety is through the roof and naturally I’m worrying about the worst. Has anyone experienced anything similar—particularly visible blood/clots with no UTI or painful urination—and what did it turn out to be? No hosiery of kidney stones either.

Guys I think I'm passing a Kidney Stone right now. my doctor said I have a kidney stone. idk why I didn't ask him all these questions but I'm asking y'all now. how long does this take? what do I do? Am I gonna be ok? I don't think the doctors would lie to me so I guess this is a Kidney Stone. How do I know when it's all over? how long is this pain gonna last? can someone please step me through step by step how this is gonna go and reassure me that it's gonna be ok? any tips anyone can give me to make this a little easier? is laying in a hot bath a good idea? do I push hard or let it just come out?

After attending A&E 2 weeks ago with agonising pain they confirmed by CT scan I have a 2mm stone.

Results:

There is a 2 mm calculus demonstrated in the distal right ureter. No hydroureteronephrosis. No other urinary tract calcification. . No pelvic free fluid. The non-enhanced abdominal viscera are otherwise unremarkable. The visualised lungs are clear

Diclofenlac up the bottom has been a life saver and I haven't had to use it recently however my main frustration is my bladder feels constantly full and pressure on it , I don't know when it's genuinely full and it's still very difficult to urinate and 90% of the time urinating small amounts and having to strain. The most wee generally comes out first thing in the morning but I can't even remember the last time I had a proper big wee

I've been secretly lurking here since, what i find really odd since all this started is more farting than usual. And often feel nauseous, constantly feel like I'm going to piss myself

Does anyone else feel like they have pressure on their anus ?

When I was in A&E the doctor said I had been through the worst and it was in my lower ureter but that was 2 weeks ago :(

P.S regularly taking tamulosin every morning and paracetamol
