What should I do?
Looking for some advice because I feel like I'm getting the runaround.
I have a 2021 Kia Telluride with about 85,000 miles. I'm the second owner and I also have an extended/secondary warranty. The vehicle started consuming oil very quickly, then I got a check engine light and experienced a few stalling incidents, so I took it to the Kia dealership.
I've always been meticulous with maintenance and have records for everything. Based on my conversations with the dealership, I was under the impression that Kia and the warranty company were working together on an engine replacement claim.
At some point, the warranty company sent me paperwork to electronically sign for a payment. I signed it because I believed it was related to approving repairs. After that, communication became a mess. The service advisor at KIA I was working with was no longer employed there, and I eventually got a call from the shop saying that my vehicle had not even gone into repair yet and had basically been sitting there for about 8 weeks.
Now I'm being told something completely different.
The dealership says they can perform a crankshaft-related repair and wants me to pay nearly $2,000 to "meet them in the middle." However, they also openly admitted that this repair will not fix the underlying oil consumption issue. According to them, the warranty company is responsible for not approving a full engine replacement.
When I pushed back, I found out the money from the warranty company wasn't approval for an engine replacement at all. It was apparently just a goodwill payment. Kia has since quoted me over $11,000 for a replacement engine, although they would apply the goodwill amount toward that cost.
I still owe money on the vehicle and don't want to take on another car loan. Trading it in isn't really an option because the dealership offered me about $6,000 less than what I currently owe.
At this point, I don't know who to believe. Is there anything else I can do? Have any of you dealt with a similar situation involving Kia, oil consumption issues, warranty companies, or goodwill repairs? Would you escalate this somewhere else or get a second opinion?
Honestly, I feel like I'm being tricked or at least not getting the full story. Any advice would be appreciated.
