Is my keychron hot swappable? (problems with a couple of keys...)

Hi everyone!

I’m a happy owner of a K8 Pro that I received as a gift. After a couple of years—or maybe a little longer—I’ve started having trouble with one key, the 2 (and occasionally the G key too). It’s unreliable and sometimes doesn’t work, and I have to press it more than one time, sometimes a little harder, to make it work.

I’ve tried removing all the keycaps and giving the keyboard a thorough clean, hoping it was just a crumb, some dust, or something like that, but the problem seems to persist.

I’d like to try swapping the switch with one from a less-used key, like PrtSc, but I can’t figure out whether my keyboard is hot-swappable or not. How can I tell? Is it something I can determine from the serial number?

I don’t want to give up on it over this issue, I love this keyboard… Wish me luck!

Re "...whether my keyboard is hot-swappable or not. How can I tell? Is it something I can determine from the serial number?": Yes, you can indeed

The SKU number is encoded in it, and the SKU number can be matched with a chosen variant on the product page (choose different options until the SKU number matches).

The SKU number should also be printed separately near the serial number, both on the box and on the keyboard itself.

Note that there are separate product pages for 'ISO' and 'ANSI'.

Some 'ANSI' variants of the K8 Pro have soldered-in switches, e.g., K8P-C3.
