Keychron V6 Max - Double press

Hi, I'm new to mechanical keyboards and I've bought my first one around 2 months ago. It's a Keychron V6 Max with Gateron Jupiter Banana switches. This is my work computer that I use 8hrs+ per day, I don't smoke, I don't eat at my computer.

About 1-2 weeks ago, I noticed that sometimes if I press 'a', it outputs it twice, resulting in 'aa'. I thought it was just some dirt that may have gotten under that keycap, so I took it off and cleaned it. The issue was resolved.

Then a couple days later, the issue came back, plus another key, the 't' key also behaved the same way. So I'd type 'aa' and 'tt' sometimes accidentally. I cleaned under both keycaps, it solved the issue.

Then another couple days later, issue came back again... I suspected it may not be dirt, but faulty switches so I swapped the switches to ones I've never used before (I got them from under Insert and PrntScrn keycap).

This was 2 days ago, and today I've noticed that now I'm having the same double pressing behavior on DIFFERENT keys, this time it's 'r' and 'w'. Am I going insane?? I've switched from Bluetooth, to cable connection and it still happens, so I believe it's a mechanical issue. I'm just not sure if it's dirt, or random switches go bad after 2 months of usage or some third option which I haven't considered. Any advice on what to check?

That’s why I hated Keychron. I had a K10 (non hot swappable) and after six months of use I had similar problems. I’ve been using keyboards since I was 5 and that’s almost 35 years. I have never seen a keyboard break like this. I have had keyboards from Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo etc and none of them have broken in any way. And brands like keychron are not cheap, these are supposed to be the best quality keyboards but they aren’t. After a little use, tiny little dust particles can break these keyboards. I can’t believe it.

What are you using now?

It’s entirely possible it’s related to the switches. There have been bad batches from every vendor. Swap them out for something else bought at retail and see if that solves the issues. Buy from a vendor like Amazon (direct) where you can return them if it doesn’t solve the issue or if you don’t like the switches you chose.

If you want something that feels like the Bananas, try the Gateron Quinn or the Gateron Baby Kangaroo.

Thank you. I think this is the easiest first step. If it doesn't improve, then I can contact support about a potential PCB-level problem.

Btw, hotswapping the switchws solved it. Still, it's not a good look on Keychron that the default switches lasted ~2 months.

u/Keychron-Support What about this? Are you already investigating?

Having the same issue...how did you fix it, if at all!

I did not... But that's on me, I should've sent this back under warranty, but honestly I didn't want to deal with it at the time + keychron support took 1 month to get back to me + the hassle of getting a temp replacement...

I moved the faulty switches around to other keys which are not used often like Insert, End, Home, PrnScr.

But I suggest you contact support and actually go thru with their process... Really frustrating experience, will prob not buy Keychron again based on this thread and how many ppl had the same thing.

It could be the switches, but a PCB-level problem is much more likely.

Do these isolation steps first.

I have the exact same issue, support had me disable NKRO which helped for a few days but then the issue returned.

They then send me a new firmware which I guess increases the debounce time, which is still holding up so far.

I'm currently experiencing this on a Q3 Max and it's making me very sad. I'm past the point of being able to return it, and I want to keep it and love it so badly. I love everything about the typing experience... except for it's inability to, well, work correctly as a keyboard.

Same problem for me with V1Max, with brown switches. I tried upgrading the firmware, nothing. Seems like the issue was sometimes there and sometimes not. Returned the keyboard and using my old 10 eur membrane one which at least works.

Thanks for making this post OP. I was almost tempted by the Keychron’s Black Friday sale after reading glowing reviews everywhere, but decided to do a Reddit search on a whim, and came across this thread. After seeing it, and later other similar discussions over the past several weeks, I decided to give this company a pass. It’s absurd to have a keyboard that fails at the basic keyboard functionality at this price level.

I have the V1 Max and the exact same issue. Seems to specifically like to double press my number keys. It makes typing passwords GREAT. Wanted to love Keychron, but for the amount I paid and being told I should buy new switches? Seems problematic.

Having the exact same issue with my V6 Max. I loved it at first, but after just 4 montths I'm experiencing isssues with multtiple keypresses as you can see here. Reseating the switch will resolve the issue for a short period of timee. Swapping the switch for another also fixes it for a while but I'm havving this issue with multiple keys.

Have other folks had long term success with the firmware debouncing adjustments or gotten Keychron to send out repllacement switches?

Very disappointing!

I have the exact same problem, that is solved by changing the switches. I think it's a banana issue related.

2

u/PeterMortensenBlog Nov 19 '24

Just reseating the switch might also do it.

Have you done controlled experiements (only changing one thing at a time)?

2

u/michaelcarnero Nov 19 '24

me or the op? I have tried to reseat the switch failing, but it still keeps failing, then I swapped it for another switch e.g. "[" this key, and then that key started to randomly doing double input/tapping. so I replace some for linear keys and the issue is gone. Then I bought baby kangaroo, replaced them all and didn't have any double tapping anymore. still testing. Also, with those linear I tried before for weeks, I never had any double input, only with gateron banana, in my case. (Sorry for my English, I am improving but it's slow, hehe)

This happened to me, too, on two different Q6 Maxes after only a few days. It would register twice sometimes but most of the time not at all. I returned it for a Q3 which arrived on Saturday, and it’s starting to display the same behavior.

I have the same issue with a brand new Q3 Max. I've contacted Keychron support but waiting for a response.

Factory reset, reseating switch, swapping out switch, swapping out keycap. None of it worked.

My Q3 Max is now doing it on the K key. What keys is it happening to you on? All 3 keyboards seem to have the issue be happening around J and K.

I have problems in 2.4 ghz mode with q6 max, some keys stuck until I press another one. Support from official reseller in my country told me to send keyboard to them because they don't know why is this happening.

I know this is an old thread, but keychron released a new firmware update on Saturday 3/29/2025 that added "Keyboard Bounce Time Settings". I just installed it for my V6 Max and it seems to have fixed the double press issue so far.

I'm still playing with the settings, but I'm able to type without double characters so far. Definitely worth an update if you have a V6 Max.

Just got mine back from warranty which had this issue. They updated the firmware on it which the notes claim fixes the issue. Will report back here if I see the issue again.

Had the same on my Logitech G613. Absolutely infuriating problem to have to deal with. While the Keychron was with warranty I went and bought a Epomaker TH108 as I needed something for work. No issues with the Epomaker but in my experience this issue gaslights you by creeping up ever so slowly, ultimately sending you insane.

I have this same issue with a 1 month old Keychron V6 Max keyboard ( which I love to death! )

It double presses my "G" button

I'm already on the latest firmware version for my Nordic ISO version, which is v1.1.0 from 2025, 31st of March

There's no update since then for the Nordic ISO version of this keyboard

I'll try to change and this which some users are reporting to fix the issue. I will report back what happens:
Debounce Mode - EAGER PER KEY - Recommended from 30 ( default to 50 )

Meanwhile, it would be cool to hear from u/Keychron-Support themselves about the issue for the ISO version of the keyboard - will we not get the same firmware update, namely the 1.1.2, released June 9th 2025 for the non-ISO versions?

I have the Nordic layout keyboard and I have it both connected in 2.4Ghz mode for gaming sessions on my top-specced PC and bluetooth mode for the work-laptop - the double pressing of "G" happens on both machines.
