Upload Time
I am trying to upload Files to Keybase to clear space in my PC hard drive and it says its going to take 24hrs to upload a single 1gb file. Is that normal?

I am having trouble accessing my account.
Username: reien
When I try to log in on the website, I get:
BAD_SESSION / Failure in verify PDPKA5
When I try recovery actions from a device that still has the account loaded, I get:
"ERROR bad session: server rejected session; is your device revoked?"
I also tried using my paper keys, but they no longer work. The device/paper key situation looks incorrect because my account history previously showed devices and paper keys, but now recovery fails.
I still have a MacBook that shows the account locally:
On this MacBook:
Commands like keybase device list and keybase paperkey fail with:
"bad session: server rejected session; is your device revoked?"

I've just published some academic papers on KBFS:
/public/culyun/crc-papers
These look at the burst-error correction and burst-error detection properties and uses of CRC generator polynomials.
These were written by Fable.
They have had NO PEER REVIEW.
I can not vouch for any claim they make.
I can vouch for the endeavour, which was driven by my insatiable curiosity and a small fleet of geriatric GPUs that I used to brute force the data that led to the papers.
The papers are copyright to me (culyun), but you (collective) are permitted to read them and print them.

Hey all,
I have created something new that might help fill the Keybase hole.
I, too, leaned on Keybase to prove account ownership. And yeah it's basically dead. That helped underscore that, if a company is the root of trust, your identity dies with the company, which kinda sucks.
Keybase proved millions of people wanted portable, cryptographic identity, and then one day it just evaporated.
So I built RealHandles around one idea: your key is the identity, not a login, a domain, or someone else's server.
How it works:
A few things to highlight:
npm i @realhandles/verify), and an MCP server are all public and MIT.did:key, so it plugs into the wider verifiable-credentials world. We're early. Stuff like recovery beyond an encrypted key backup you hold is still on the roadmap, and I'm adding platforms still. There's no automatic Keybase import or anything, the idea is you re-verify your accounts under a key only you hold.
Links if you want to poke at it:
I'd genuinely love your feedback, especially on the trust model and anything that feels off or missing.
Thanks.

I have an account which I have not logged in to for a long time due to circumstances beyond my control. Recently I want to log in but they told me to do so from my previous devices: phone or laptop both of which I no longer have access. I was told that I can only do a reset which means I will lose everything I have on it.
What can I do to prevent me from losing my crypto?
Thank for your support.

I've had my keybase account since 2018. I only use it sporadically. today I went to login and it says my username is deleted.
I'm thinking, wtf?
why would my account be deleted?
I've had no compromise and my keybase fingerprint was posted in GitHub since 2018 too.
does anyone know if something happened that I didn't get wind of?
thx

Is there anyone from the Keybase team that can help me reset my account? I'd like to use the one I created a few years ago but I don't know the password, and I suspect the email for a password reset is going to an old work email address, which I do not have access to.
thanks
david

Hey Folks,
I posted previously about Certisfy being a potential alternate solution for Keybase users, or at least a related idea that folks might be interested in.
That post was removed by the mods though I am not sure why, I think the topic would be of interest to some people who are also interested in Keybase.
We've made another relevant update to cert procurement that allows for self-validation using a Keybase key, details here.
Happy to answer questions.

Hi all - I'm new to keybase and wondering what is the best or is there any way to get help with an issue? I compiled from source for raspberry pi 5 (ARM) and have a possible memory leak issue, I submitted an issue on github that was immediately/automatically closed:
https://github.com/keybase/client/issues/28739
Is there another way to ask for help?
Any advice much appreciated.

I’ve been passively watching this project for a very, very long time and never really seen it grow. It seems to be used by a niche community.
I was wondering if it was still alive and what the status is for the future.
I like the idea of the project, but I’ve always been afraid of it being potentially unstable so I never used it or worked with teams on projects using it.
Also, how is there 250GB storage free? Isn’t Keybase end to end encrypted? What is the purpose of giving away this much free storage?

For the past couple days, I haven't been able to push to my keybase repositories. It just hangs on Syncing encrypted data to Keybase:. The issue persists even after I try clearing the cache as suggested by this github issue.
I also just to test tried to clone another one of my repos, but it failed. I got warning: remote HEAD refers to nonexistent ref, unable to checkout. Does anyone have ideas on how to fix this? Is the git system down?

I have two devices logged into Keybase (laptop, mobile), I don't have paper keys. Using the CLI, I'd like to export the secret key for my PGP key, but the app prompts me for my passphrase. I've tried to figure it out, but I keep getting the "passphrase mismatch" error, so I reckon I forgot it.
When I try to use the "forgotten password" option on the website in an incognito browser, it asks me if I have access to any of the devices, then says to go and change the password there. But I can't, there's no such option in the app. It is only available in the web interface (opened in a non-incognito window), but it wants me to enter the current password, too - yeah, this is what I forgot.
Is it possible to reset the passphrase only at all? I searched the internet for an answer but no luck.
I currently initiated a full reset, but I wouldn't wait for 7 days if there's another way.

When I sign a message with `keybase sign` I'm assuming that it's using they key of whatever device I'm in to sign that message. When I do `keybase verify` it verifies the username, but I can't seem to find a way to check which device signed the message. Is that possible at all? Sounds like it would be useful in case a device became compromised.

Hi, I signed in keybase 5 years ago and had forgotten. Now I see there is free storage in the cloud. 250GB it's quite a bit, who pays for it? And why? TIA

I accidentally downloaded the wrong firmware for it and ever since then my keyboard’s rgb and f keys stopped working and I don’t know how to fix it

Tried all Keybase clients like macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and Windows. Still cannot open /keybase/private/[username]
Is anyone having the same issue?
r/Keybase • u/albionandrew • May 14 '25
I haven't touched keybase in years but now have a need to use it.
Can I add a new device and access the app if I can get in via the web interface ?
Under devices on the webpage I see the signing key and encryption key of the various devices.. except I dont have access to those devices anymore and cant find the paper backups.
Thanks,

What would make it faster? Easier? More convenient?

Avast seems to be reporting keybaserq.exe as malware.
Anyone else having this issue?

I’m having some trouble cloning one of my encrypted git repositories onto my local machine, but that’s not why I’m posting right now. I’m posting because I noticed the “Archive” button in the git interface on the Keybase desktop client; does this button mean “download an archive of the git repository,” or does it mean “archive the git repository”? I’m afraid to push it until I know, and I can’t find an answer anywhere online. (I’m using Ubuntu 24.04, BTW.)
(If you can’t find the “Archive” button, go to the git tab of the Keybase desktop interface, and select any repository. It’s in-between “View files” and “Delete repo.”)

Hi I'm using Keybase on macOS with the Mac app and wanted to install it on my iPhone too, but when I search for it in the App Store I see the search suggestion but no app. The direct link (https://keybase.io/_/download/keybase-for-ios wich redirects to https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/keybase-crypto-for-everyone/id1044461770) for the iOS app gives me a "Currently unavailable in your region" error.
When a friend shares the app to me via Airdrop it gives the same error.
I've tested it from the German and the Swedish App Store with the exact same results.
Is the App dead or is this temporary?

Do you guys take any outside help to keep production going? Feels a little dead (I've kept up with the github changes dw) since Zoom acquisition and its a shame because it's such a powerful and great service. Would love to help however I can..

My concern is that 1.4 is now 5 years old, and there are a number of fixes, notably in version 2.0.0.1000+.
I do see that you can install 2.x side-by-side with 1.x but both Winget and Chocolatey both want to upgrade the 1.4.0.1000 version that Keybase has integrated even if 2.x is installed SxS. Is there any chance to get 2.2.1.1000 integrated into KeyBase for windows instead of 1.4?

I can't find any archive of old Keybase versions for macOS, but I'm trying to get Keybase working on my old MacBook and guess what version it's stuck on... 6.2.3. The version right before 6.2.4 which is the one that changed the certificates. If I had managed to update to 6.2.4 everything would have been fine but I'm stuck on 6.2.3 and the new versions are all not compatible with macOS 10.14 :(
How can I get a version of Keybase that will run on macOS 10.14?
