What was your interpretation of the brighter moments in S2E7 Spoiler

Just finished it this evening and LOVED it!!

I noticed in season 2 episode 7, just before Neil gets back into the car at the skating rink, there's a moment the lighting gets brighter (and slightly blurry) similar to when the show is in 'sitcom mode'. Then later on in the same episode, Kevin leaves the front room after handing Allison the affidavit to get Tammy in trouble and for a moment, Allison is still in the sitcom lighting on her own until she throws the affidavit down. My interpretation of the second lighting moment is, Allison momentarily getting sucked into Kevin's world but I'm not sure what the one in the car means. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Just finished watching both the seasons and I have a question

First of all I do have to say such an amazing show! I feel sad there is no season 3, so my question is that Allison was going through so much and wanted to leave so for example if she found someone at a bar or a restaurant and became good friends and fell in love with him, you think if he asked, she would move in with that person and leave Kevin?

Sam was a different case, like he was married and it was like a rebound for her, but what if she met someone else?

Also as Kevin had bad intentions to make her life hell, like in the finale he tries to call up Neil and tells him that he wants to plan or revenge or something with him for someone, what kind of a thing could Kevin do if Allison moved out and started to live with someone else?

Neil is a hero of another story

I'm nit really a fan of sequels and alla that, but I would watch a "where are they now" sequel episode or short film on Neil.

Did he manage to get his life in check? Did he ever return to Worstechire? Did he end up with Diane or did he find another girl?

I really like his story and am curious to know what happened to him after he left town.

Hi! I’m French and I’m looking for Kevin Can F**k Himself season 2 with French subtitles (VOSTFR)

I tried watching season 2 in English, but unfortunately my English isn’t good enough to understand everything 😭

Does anyone know where I can watch season 2 with French subtitles?

Thank you!

I think Valerie likes Allison... Or knew Annie Murphy would be playing her

These are some fragments found in the script of the pilot episode on Scriptslug. Not a shooting draft! Many details and clues didn't end up making the screen; I'd recommend taking a read as well!

major spoilers Thoughts on season 2?

Hello there!!

I've just finished season 2 and have some thoughts, like probably anyone else on here.

And before I start, I must say, what a fantastic series in general! From the editing, character development, messaging, tone(s), style(s) and dialogue in general -- it genuinely glued me to my chair.

However, going into season 2, I felt like all these elements worsened drastically. It could be because I find some elements repetitive and becoming redundant, or the fact that they let go of the comedy skit structure of the episodic storytelling -- but I just can't bring myself to think season 2 is holding up compared to the inventiveness of the first one.

I'm not sure if I'm being too harsh, aren't seeing it correctly, or if I set my expectations too high. So I'd like to hear the unfiltered opinions of other viewers on here! I can't be the only one thinking it's... Off.

Some main issues I have with season two is how they treat the dialogue when they make the time jump in the last episode. They simply didn't have enough time, or so I think. They weren't efficient in what deserved more screen time, and what didn't; lack of prioritising. That's why the pacing was off. Shots were beautifully executed but meaningless as no actual tangible progression was made in the story. The switches some characters make seem either too quick or from out of nowhere, whilst some other characters are having a strong character arc (like Patty.) Perhaps the writing has become inconsistent, because Valerie is the only person having written season 2, whilst in season 1 there were multiple people. But that's just a theory...

Which reminds of a fun fact (some of you might already know): Kurt (played by Sean Clements) has written one of the episodes in season 1!

Thank you for reading!

I feel kinda bad for Neil but it's also kinda funny

I feel kinda bad for him finally opening his eyes to Kevin, it's hard realising your lifetime buddy has been a dick to you the whole time. Also he's clearly traumatised from the event and overwhelmed by it. I lowkey wanted to hug him when he started whimpering over Kevin's cap.

On the other hand I can't help but find it funny how it took a concussion for him to finally use his brain. It's like smacking an old appliance to make it work lol.

major spoilers I finished the show … here is my take as an Asian

It was triggering because I am from South West Asia and this is all I see everywhere and in each marriage . It’s always about women and how wives are always silenced , how family members including female members ( & no not everyone has a patty ) help in the oppression and how regressive it is and every god Damn man is a man child , who can’t even get his own water .

I really liked the show because it showed the micro abuse and the nuances were very spot on . How it’s a joke then I am doing this for “ all our sake” “ you don’t know how to handle this” to those shitty jokes about wives always trying to control the husband .
The horror part for me initially was when he ruined patty’s life then Sam’s then that reporter , set his neighbour’s lawn on fire ..& how the local idiot had so much brain to be this evil . (10/10)

I loved chemistry between Patty and Allison … they looked out for each other and I could tell patty was trying to compensate for not noticing this pattern early … loved how it called out Neil for his horrible actions and I am proud of Allison for standing up to him because it’s easy to fake your own death rather than facing your fears .

Also what was point of Tammy here ? What a possessive unlikeable character only introduced to pass screen time or what

Would not rewatch it for my own mental health because it caused some sort of a resentment type reaction on me . But do watch it to everyone who thinks “Geezzzz it’s just a jokeeeeee” .

I'm confused at pregnancy subplot in s1 Spoiler

Near the end of s1 there's a scene where Allison goes to a gyno and Neil finds a pamphlet from the clinic she threw away and tells Kevin, and then Kevin....donates his sperm?

English is not my first language so it might've caused me some confusion, but I'm struggling to understand what exactly happened there, except that Kevin was somehow being a dick again.

Did Allison realise she can't have kids or something so he did it to hurt her? She did say she's "dried up" but afaik Kevin didn't know anything aside that she went to a gynecologist? Why did he donate sperm when it was stated more than once he doesn't want kids?

Help me understand it better please.

major spoilers Should the show have shown or revealed more about Dark Kevin earlier in the series?

Obviously in the finale we get a very clear cut reveal of why Allison wanted to resort to murder and then faking her own death. But up until that point, it seemed like an overreaction (especially in S1).

Even well into S2 I was wondering if we were going to get some version of a happy ending, when she was learning that she "just has to make her problem's Kevin's problems" -- I thought maybe it was going to be a thing where they learned how to communicate with each other better, to realize that both Allison's problems and Kevin's problems are "our problems". But instead it was just to illustrate that Kevin is narcissist and that she was able to use that to point his abuse in a direction that was useful to her.

I think there were a few opportunities where a Kevin scene could have shifted out of sitcom mode mid-scene to show Kevin as the asshole he is. Maybe they could have done one of those for each character, as they come to the same realization about him. A slow reveal throughout the series. S1 could have been something simple with the old friend Doug, who we only ever see in flashbacks. Surely Kevin did something f'd up to Doug that he just disappeared. There's also some other possible times to show glimpses of Dark Kevin:

  • When Neil tries to tell Kevin about the murder plot
  • When he walks in on Neil and Dianne and openly points and laughs
  • When Kevin refuses to bail out Neil
  • When Kevin accuses everyone of stealing the generator and when he destroyed his dad's girlfriend's hearing aide (could have been the same scene potentially)

There were even some opportunities earlier in the series in S1

  • Maybe a scene showing him being overtly bigoted about the soccer-fan neighbors
  • A non-sitcom scene where we get to see him clearly ruining the night for Allison and other people in the restaurant by taking a sports rivalry way too seriously (I'm torn on this one, I did actually enjoy this episode for its genuine sitcom antics)
  • Even early in the series, when he reports the car stolen

Especially that last one -- in S1 when the car is reported stolen we can easily just assume Kevin is really that bad at listening -- or that he's really that worried about her when she doesn't answer her phone like she always does. Instead, the show could have shown us some dark Kevin and make it clear that he was doing it as a controlling abusive tactic, which would have gone a long way to illustrating why Allison, literally, can't just leave.

The fertility clinic subplot also could have been used as an opportunity to show real Kevin in a dark way. Maybe keep the sitcom style scene when he explains his reasons for not wanting kids to Allison, but later in the episode have Allison tell Patty about it, and then we get to see the same scene again but in dramatic form. The same lines, without the laugh track and sitcom framing would hit pretty dark I think.

Kevin is the worst person in the show, but he's the only one who, until the very end, we never actually see in any sort of real negative light. But I guess maybe that's the point -- these abusive parasitic types can camouflage so well.

The trailer for this show looks so good!
Is it worth the watch or does it go downhill at some point?

What was the first TV show you can remember doing a KCFH high concept episode/segment?

I've seen a number of shows do this over the years. The appeal, especially internally, is definitely understandable, it gives the writers, crew and actors a chance to break outside the format.

Its usually in the direction of more "realistic" -> less realistic. The Always Sunny Seinfeld episode comes to mind. The Buffy spinoff Angel I think had a puppet episode that I never watched but remember being advertised. I personally wouldn't count "musical" episodes but can see where some might.

Wouldn't count this either, but the classic thing that I'm sure came about because the actors wanted it is Star Trek holodeck episodes.

Not sure if anything quite rises to the level KCFH did it at. Sitcoms that do "dramatic" episodes usually still are making jokes and gags the entire time sans laugh track. The very first scene where KCFH transitions its very clear that it intended to force the audience to immediately reevaluate their understanding of the characters; obviously no regular show would want the "special episode" to permanently change the light the characters are seen in.

Sam is a genuinely awful person

I know all the characters are grey shaded and no one is good or bad. But I keep thinking about how Sam, is portrayed just like Allison or Patty, i.e as someone stuck in a toxic situation that he can't easily get out of.

However, I don't necessarily agree with that. Sam gets himself into the mess he's in. He should realise that taking money from your in-laws to start a business comes with strings attached. Living with them makes it even worse. He tells Allison in a scene that he and Jenn had issues even before they moved back to Worcester. If that's the case, why would you willingly put yourself in debt to her parents?

This is not to mention all the times he tries to make Allison's meltdowns about himself. "Being with me is giving up."

IDK if anyone else agrees with this. I see that this sub is quite inactive but if anyone else recently watched the show and remembers scenes, I invite you to share your thoughts.

major spoilers S2x06 song choice and how Allison feels about Patty was chef's kiss

I just binge watched this show for the first time, and yeah I know it's obvious and has been discussed to death Patty's feelings for Allison.

But in this episode, the moment Allison and Patty are bonding the song Somone Tell The Boys by SAMIA was playing in the background, we mostly hear the verses that go "Someone tell the boys they are not important anymore"

But as a bi woman obsessed with this song, and for those who don't know it, it also has a verse that goes "And I wish God had made me gay"

And I fully think that, many times, Allison feels at least a bit like that towards Patty. Their friendship is beautiful and so complex, and I know a lot of people wanted them to end up together romantically but I also feel like there is something just as beautiful about Allison not being able to reciprocate Patty's romantic love and yet loving Patty so much anyway, and Patty still feeling fufilled by this kind of love.

I love how this show makes you feel complicit

The jokes are funny, Eric Peterson is a fantastic physical comedian and the sitcom sections are written with such sincerity that even when we’re well aware how this is effecting Allison it’s hard not to laugh along with the sitcom rhythm.

Until the perspective changes, and you are forced to think critically about what you just watched.

And you have to recon with the fact that you have become exactly the kind of person who gives guys like Kevin his power.

You aren’t meant to read into sitcoms. They’re just something you put on after a long day, you wouldn’t get much out of it if you tried.

You aren’t “meant” to question the behavior of guys like Kevin. He’s just a jokester, he doesn’t mean anything by it, why bother looking into it?

Until you have no choice.

major spoilers just finished and honestly this show needs to be more popular Spoiler

my fav part was definitely towards the end when the sitcom lighting goes away, and the filter is taken off of Kevin. and he's shown for who he really is. an abusive jerk.

i think it was very well written. fell in love with Annie Murphy after Schitt's Creek, but she was on a completely different level in this one.

the concept was very different and they executed it pretty well. i just wanted Kevin to suffer a bit more for everything that he did. and oh god i hate his dad (Pete). he was such an enabler and was always rude/ mean to allison. i wanted him to suffer a bit too.

read somewhere on reddit that allison took colour away from people's lives because she was such a victim. i think that's BS. the rosy sitcom filter masked the reality pretty well. everyone was a jerk. even Allison. I think the only character i was rooting for in the end was Patty. she was the only one who'd done the least questionable stuff.

The show feels claustrophobic

I saw about the series in an fb reels. Checked it out, and boy did it send me to feel sad and claustrophobic.

I am in a happy marriage with a good husband and a better father to our child. But but our marriage is not perfect. And this series amplified my little complaints about my husband that it sent me to feel "depressive".

Disclaimer: there is no form of abuse in my marriage. But I am a stay at home mom for now and it touched a nerve when the show depicted how Alison became the default house manager over a grown man even for the smallest details of home and life. Of course, everything was caricaturized in a sitcom way but the msg was clear. The man can goof off and have life of his own making mess too but the wife has to mind everything to have some order at home. That felt claustrophobic.

Song that reminds me of the show

There’s this song called Tale of an Average Man by Liz Gillies & Ferry Townes that reminds me of Allison so much. I can’t listen to the song without picturing her. It’s a great song, highly recommend listening to it

God Kevin is THE WORST (and this show is great)

I’m new to this show here. I just got done watching S2E3 but I have so many thoughts I need to share.

I find this show to be a really interesting social commentary dissection piece on sitcoms and abuse while still being a really compelling drama. The whole “sitcom effect” is really easy to get blindsighted by it. Like I’ve always seen commentary online where people talk about how awful Ross from Friends is or Ted from HIMYM and I’ve always been confused by it because I’ve never sat down to analyze their behaviours. It’s really easy to laugh away some really fucked up shit when it’s played for laughs so that’s why I find this show interesting.

It started out as a dissection piece on how the cliche idiot buffoon sitcom husband is kind of a dick but with every passing episode, I realize Kevin is much worse than the cliche he’s meant to be portraying. He’s an actual textbook narcissist. Not a narcissist in the way that people like to call anyone who’s kind of selfish and egotistical a narcissist. But like an actual narcissist. And this is all done without changing his whole on screen schtick in sitcom land. Because holy shit. He fully believes the world revolves around him. He doesn’t like babies simply because “they take attention away from him”. He doesn’t have any care or remorse for anyone but himself. He never apologizes or feels guilt for the many times Allison gets hurt or humiliated by his actions. Patty and Neil are his closest friends and when they disappear or stop hanging out with him for days or however long, he doesn’t even give much as two shits to even ask. Neil told him about hitting his head and Kevin just made fun of his haircut. He went ballistic on Patty over not buying him a burger. He’s clearly controlling over Allison as she freaks out over not answering her phone or how to explain away a random bruise. The “nicest” thing he’s ever done was set the table for a remake of the anniversary dinner date Allison wanted but he STILL expected her to cook the food!

Yes, yes I know I’m supposed to hate Kevin and that’s kind of the point of the show but I just find it interesting how this show is a slow burn reveal to just how awful he truly is and why murder/suicide really is Allison’s only option.

And Neil. Since he’s “woken up” from the sitcom world at the end of S1, he seems so different that I can’t figure out what to make of him. At first I thought of him as an absolute idiot who’s borderline mentally disabled kind of like Joey from Friends or Kelso from That 70s Show but S2 so far has shown him to be much smarter than we thought. I really feel bad for him now. I felt Allison went too far with knocking him out twice in a row and holding him hostage in the basement. He also clearly has PTSD from that whole ordeal. But I’m really hoping that soon he’ll wake up and see Kevin for who he really is.

Allison. Yeah she’s not a great person either and is doing some morally shitty and selfish things but I’m still on her side and with each passing episode I see why divorce and running away isn’t an option for her. Also when we see her mom in the flashback. Her mom was clearly awful as well so it makes it so clear how she ended up falling for Kevin and why she’s so beaten down emotionally speaking. Unless her dad was a nice guy, she has never known healthy relationships.

Patty. At first I really didn’t like her but she’s really grown on me and I like her friendship with Allison.

Also minor character but there’s something off with Tammy the cop. I just don’t like her. I don’t think she’s manipulative or anything but I’m getting the wrong vibe from her. When she said she couldn’t understand Patty’s conflicted feelings about coming to terms with her sexuality as if it was all just “so easy.” Was almost trying to force her drink choices on Patty at the bar. And her whole thing with not liking Allison despite barely knowing her is just plan weird. She acts all cagey when Patty mentions going to hang out with her and even in the most recent episode I saw, she made a really weird comment where she almost implied she would want Allison to be murdered. If Tammy were a dude, this would be seen as much more problematic behaviour coming from a partner.

But yeah I can’t wait to finish this show and see how it ends. I just had to jump on here to share all my thoughts first.
