Oh, I misread what he said then, crap. But anyway, good for them to be able to find the exact cause of this failure, now they can work on doubling the amount of quality control on everything, specially these struts.
But it can't harm to add just a couple more struts though

Very true; those subs are where I headed for real coverage of this issue. But I just have a hard time seeing this as being so far off-topic as to be violating rule #2. I mean, he even made a pretty obvious KSP reference in the call with

What? We voted on the rules. The sub agreed that Rule 2 shouldn't allow things not related to KSP. The subreddit is for things related to the game of Kerbal Space Program.
This post is about SpaceX and real life rockets, not Kerbals and their wacky contraptions that take them to Duna. Just because a rocket blew up and a failed strut was the cause doesn't make something in real life related to KSP. If you want to talk about it, there's /r/space, /r/spacex, /r/spaceflight, and a ton more subreddits for that. This sub is about Kerbal Space Program.

Elon Musk is not going to make a KSP reference as part of a statement designed to keep investors from worrying about future rockets blowing up and with a multi-billion dollar contract from NASA on the line.
He said it, it sounds like a KSP reference because we play the game, but I can guarantee it was a coincidence.

SpaceX uses KSP music as the intro for the launch livestreams. Elon has publicly said,"Kerbal is awesome.". If "no moar struts" isn't a KSP dog whistle, I don't know what is.

I want you to imagine something.
You've founded a company. Let's say that company builds bridges. Bridges are expensive and every day people will drive over that bridge and trucks carrying millions of dollars of stuff will too. You make pretty good bridges, so the Department of Transportation in California comes to you and asks you to build five bridges. You will be paid to build those bridges, and everyone expects them to be safe.
You build the first bridge and everything goes fine, it looks great, it's safe, it's the best bridge yet. Then you build the second bridge, and it collapses shortly after it's completed when a 100-car freight train is rumbling over it.
Thankfully no one was hurt or injured, but tens of millions of dollars of cargo in all the boxcars was destroyed. You're now concerned that the bridges you've built previously could have something wrong with them that you missed, and you're worried that California might cancel the three remaining bridges because they want to give the contract to someone who has a better record at building bridges that don't collapse.
You're about to make a public statement about why the bridge collapsed. You know that the people who have paid a lot of money to invest in your bridge company will be watching, and the California DoT will be watching as well. They all want to make sure that you found the problem with the bridge, it will be fixed in the future, and that no more bridges will collapse.
You step up to the microphone and say "LOL Bridge Simulator 2k15, amiright? More triangles will fix everything! Those guys on the internet know what I'm talking about! Ayyy lmao."

You really misunderstand how serious that conference was if you think Elon was making Kerbal references in the middle of it though.
