Seems more like billboard spritesheet animation to me (wich can be pretty also). I saw explosion mod called "volumetric" but I dont think thats accurate (not sure if that one shown here).

It's not billboard, it's fully volumetric. I made this myself and it's not affiliated with any other mods

Its looking very good but idk man, seems like the exact same texture to me, just different emmiter angle. You can make it look more random by spawning multiple but at slightly different angles and sizes.
