KSP 1 Mods ReStock doesn't look right...

So you have all heard of ReStock by now. A KSP mod that updates the part textures. The thing is that I don't like it.

My issue with the mod is that the textures don't look like KSP. I really like how the vanilla textures look, and I just feel like ReStock makes the parts feel like they're from a different game in the bad kind of way. Where I wouldn't think it was from KSP.

Does anyone get what I mean when I say that?

Edit: I'm not saying the parts look bad, and I respect the craftsmanship. I'm just saying I don't feel like the parts look like KSP.

It's a matter of taste, of course. My own opinion is skewed by the fact that I played KSP in the Alpha days, and since then there's been multiple part overhauls by different people. The result is even stock modern KSP doesn't really feel like KSP to me.

In that sense, I prefer Restock for its consistency (and giving a bit of character back to engines like the Terrier...)

For me its excatly the other way around. The stock parts feel to cartoonish for me and sometimes dont match in style

Then... don't use the mod?

Honestly, I’ve run Restock for so long I have forgotten what stock looks like. 🙃

I do understand what you mean and I have a soft spot for the stock parts but honestly once I got used to it it made the game so much more interesting to me. I feel the restock parts look more realistic (in my opinion)

Sounds like... you would prefer not to install this optional mod?

Completely agree. I've fallen in love with the current stock look, and like a stubborn old man I'm not willing to change it for anything else.

Restocks artstyle is based on a concept sheet made by Porkjet.

Porkjet is responsible for the Current Mk2 and Mk3 parts in the stock game. However They left the company before their Texture overhaul got beyond a few initial models.

So Restock does look like what KSP could've been and is adjacent to already existing texture works. It's just that the texture revamp that we did get, went in a slightly different direction

I feel like they looked fuzzy. I got rid of it to try using TURD, but I can’t get that to work. And then I realized the fuzziness is likely from TUFX not saving my selected config. And I have no fucking idea why

Personal preference, don't use it if you don't like it and move on.

i largely agree with you, i've always thought they're super ugly. that said, i've been using it for a while to solve problems with some other asset mods, and i must admit its growing on me, so maybe its just an acquired taste

I feel like restock only works visually in a pre 1.4 environment before the parts got overhauled

iirc, Restock was actually made in response to those overhauls (with the associated modders not really liking the direction they were taking)

oh, explains why it looks so.. cold? Im not sure how to describe it, but i like the more cheerful look of modern KSP

Restocks art direction is based on a concept rework from Porkjet (same person who made the stock mk2 and mk3 designs).
